is there a free dining watch thread for fall?

I would just book a new package online as soon as the fd offer is released. Then later that day, cancel your other reservation and you will get your $200 back. That's what I did last year, very easy.

That's the last thing I'd want to do because I reserved a standard room at the beach club and am sure that there are no more standard rooms available. It would defeat the purpose of getting free dining if I had to pay more for garden view or higher. I hope I can keep my standard room reservation and modify with fd.

If there are no rooms available the time you are going already than there won't be any available for free dining. No reason to discount rooms that are already booked.

They are not going to give you free dining on your standard room just because you booked it. You will only be able to get free dining on a standard room IF one is available for your travel dates. It makes no difference if you have already booked the room.

Originally booked a bounce back room discount. When I switched the offer beach club had no avaiblility in the standard room category. Had no problems

Yes.

All discounts exist to fill rooms. If a room category is filled, they don't have to discount it. And won't, really. Percent off discounts also apply to limited inventories of rooms, not to every room.

We've had the exact opposite experience so like others have said, having an existing reservation does not guarantee a person will be able to apply a discount code. Discounts are given to fill rooms that otherwise are not already booked. Not only have we had to switch room categories, but we've also had to switch resorts in order to get the discount.
 
Just a reminder to anyone going in Sep or early October. Go ahead and make your adrs. You can book one day at time for your trip with out a resort reservation. You can cancel with no penalty if your dates change.
 
We have reservations for sept 30 - October 7 at the AoA in the lion king suite super excited really hoping to get the fd! Is calling WDW the only way to get the promotion applied to your reservation if you didn't go through a travel agency?

I would think calling would be the easiest way. I'm not the best expert on that because I don't book in till the offer is released. Just some tips call as soon as the phone opens and be prepared to hold hours. It's crazy.

You can modify your reservation online to add the package, IF it's available for your resort/room type.
 
Hello all! So I have a reservation for Sept 13-19 at CBR, I too am anxiously awaiting for a free dining announcement, I have read when it comes out to just cancel and make a new reservation but I was wondering if there's a fee for doing that?

Not to beat a dead horse, but having a room booked before a discount comes out does absolutely nothing to help your chances to get that category of room/resort under the discount. Nothing. I.e., PP was lucky in that the resort and category she already booked happened to be available when she later called for the discount. She would have had the exact same result if she had nothing booked at all before that phone call (or online booking), or if she had booked at a different resort. Truly! (Not trying to be mean - its just that Disney's methods are not intuitive sometimes, and definitely NOT the standard way most hotel chains do things, and I know how important it is to get the type of room and resort you want on a Disney trip.) HTH a little! (I.e., if you will only go with FD in a standard room (or whatever type of room), just get ready to book online - and maybe have a family member phoning in same time - the second you can the day the discount is released. There is really no point to having a non-FD room booked if you have no intention of going without a discount. In fact, it reduces the odds that that resort will release that category of room under the discount, as the hotel thinks the demand is greater than it really is (because you booked a room, so it seems to them they have sold a room at rack rate)) :)
