Is there a "Fast Pass for Dummies" thread?

OK, have to admit that I am completely and thoroughly confused, I have not been to WDW since the old paper Fast Pass. I am just now learning about this magic band contraption...


I'm sure I will have many questions that can be answered by one of the many threads on this topic, but can anyone provide a high level overview on how it works, when I can reserve, what attractions are included, etc?
