Renting points for a stay?

(I was not sure where to put this so move it if necessary)

Meaning is there anything we would be excluded from that either a DVC owner or someone paying regular rom rates would get? I haven't ever seen any but wondered.

The rate appear so much less expensive than booking an equivalent room I wondered what I overlooked.

No free dining or any kind of promotion

Limited housekeeping. For stays 7 nights or less, you get a "trash & towel service" on day 4. For stays 8 nights or more, you get a full housekeeping on day 4, trash & towel on day 8. You can pay for extra services or towels.

It's a private agreement between you and the member, Disney will not get involved in any disputes. Most agreements are non-refundable.

The member has control of the reservation, you will not be able to call to make changes. You can make your own ADR's.

And DVC inventory is different than Cash room inventory...its best to make a DVC reservation 11 months in advance. (By definition, DVC points are use it or loose it, so DVC runs at 98%+ occupancy year round)
DVC usage patterns are different, (Fall - NYE is "peak DVC usage)

cancelation policy, if any, is based on the individual you rent from. most will not refund your money if you need to cancel...so make sure your plans are solid.

it should go without saying, but if you get a list of DVC member discounts and you are not a DVC member, then those discounts are unavailable to you.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone so far and anyone else that replies. I learned a few things so I am glad I asked.

Savings on the stay is the big good thing. We have rented since 2004 and not one problem between us and guest or Disney. Any free stuff Disney gives that DVC member can't you do pay for in their price overall and the resort they put you in.

One of my best friends has rented several times and her family is likely to rent again INSTEAD of buying in to DVC. Her rationale was that she could stay cheaper on points rented than to buy in and face MF and the cost of buy in. They go several times a year and stay at moderate resorts......however, she did say she was in love with AKV. She still thinks she will come out cheaper renting here and there than just buying in. I am not convinced, given the number of times they go and the length of time they stay. In any event, it is a testimony to how well the rental process went.

i think it depends on how committed you are to disney. for a few trips, it's definitely cheaper to rent (well, the way resale prices are currently going up, it's "probably" cheaper to rent).

after 6-10 trips, owning is the much cheaper option.
