Is there a cheaper day to fly?

I cannot book flights yet as we are more than one year out, however I am considering adding another day to my holiday. Initially I was looking at flying out on a Friday and back to the UK on a Monday so it got me thinking whether there is a better (cheaper) day to fly out? I figured weekends would be the most expensive...

There's very little logic to it but Fridays and Saturdays do tend to be most expensive. The best thing to do is be flexible at the time of booking to get the cheapest flight options.

Weekends (Fri to Sun) are the most expensive.

We found Tuesdays the cheapest for charter and Wednesdays for scheduled.

For next sept TC were coming up cheapest of them all for Man-Orlando on a Tuesday.

Most airlines charge a weekend supplement on Fri/Sat/Sun departures. It's not apparent when looking at the prices when you're hunting but you can usually find it in the fine print. This may not seem like a lot of money (I know with BA and VA it's about £20) but times that by 4 for a family of 4, and times 2 for a return trip, and you are looking at an extra £160 that could better have been spent on dole whips

We booked our flights separately to our resort reservation, so when we went on the BA website, we could see the cheapest prices for a few days either days of our suggested dates. It was handy, and we moved our dates slightly to pick the cheapest days. If you're booked flights on their own, it might be worth playing with the options on your carrier's website and see what comes up.

Very good advice :thumbsup2 Unless your dates are fixed, it's worth playing around with them. For our trip last year it worked out cheaper if we flew out a day earlier and back a day later. Even adding the extra nights on at POFQ still saved us over £100 rather than going with our original date.

I was watching United for weeks (amongst others) recently and noticed that their cheapest flights for any given week seem to be quite consistently on a Monday. But still play around. Seeing a trend and treating it as a rule could see you ignoring a bargain that goes against the general pattern

I was probably going to book accommodation, tickets etc with Complete Orlando so not sure what their policy is on making amendments, will have to check.

it's not only the flights that matter

friday and saturday nights are more expensive than other nights at hotels

so depending on your length of stay, flying in on a sunday might avoid a friday and saturday room premium.

flying on a thursday might be cheaper, but might lead you to have one more friday and saturday in your stay. and even if you save on flights you might pay more due to the weekend room premium
( once again it depends how long you stay in total. some length of stay include the same number of ''more expensive days'' no matter when the first day is)

you need to take tnis into account and factor that in when you consider a ''less expensive day to fly'' because the flight is not the only thing that varies depending on the day of the week

I booked my flights a few months after hotel with complete orlando and had to add a day as it was cheaper to fly, complete orlando can only book min if three days hotel stays so we booked a one night only with hilton points for the first night.

We would be looking at going for 18 nights, 14 nights Disney and 4 nights Universal. I would likely look to book Universal separately and flights but it would all depend so I may have to move my Disney booking forward or back 4 nights.

Right so bearing all the comments in mind and Complete Orlando saying they would charge an amendment fee. I am now looking at booking my Disney stay arriving November 3rd (Monday) departing November 20th (Thursday and I miss Thanksgiving) plus getting back to the UK on a Thursday would be much better.

So my question now is, would I be safe enough to book the accommodation now? I would be looking to find flights from 11 months out but do all airlines fly on these days too or will I be restricting my choices (could I choose charter and scheduled on these days)?
