Is There a Cap On Total Points Owned?

I have a POS from my BCV purchase. It states 2000 points per resort and 5000 total for all DVC resorts. (Page 18, III.5. Component Site Material Rules and Regulations). The number is set to "encourage purchase for personal use."
I would suspect the new one for BCV lists the numbers quoted above. As I read and understand it they could increase the numbers unilaterally but not decrease them.

I'm wondering if Disney would even allow you to do that? Anyone know? Can you even imagine... LIVING at WDW? OMG!

I wouldn't want to live there.
Being DVC owns and vacationing several times per year at WDW has already allowed us to see behind the curtain too many times. While still a wonderful place to vacation, I must admit that some of the magic is gone. It's like seeing Mickey without his head on backstage.

You start to notice things that brings into focus that Disney is like all other companies, profit driven.

True. But it's a magical profit splashed with rainbows, pixie dust and unicorn farts!

Actually, my wife and I have been talking a lot about this lately. That Disney is getting very greedy. I mean, not that they have ever NOT been profit driven, but it just seems like they're trying to take it to a whole new level the last several years. So much so that it's really starting to erode the Disney magic. I just hope they figure it out before the magic's gone for good.

The announcements of the new lands are definitely a step in the right direction!

Isn't there also some lodging law/rule that you can only stay at the same resort for X number of days in a row (like 2 or 3 weeks or something)? So, you'd have to switch resorts.

Not that I can tell, that's what I was referencing in post #19. I believe some hotels will limit the stay but there isn't a legal issue that I can find. Some people live in hotels permanently. There are some differences in taxes and the like if you live over a certain period, I believe it's 6 months IIRC.

I have to agree with Bill: I wouldn't want to live at Disney. Part of what makes it magical and special is that it is vacation: time away from the world and from work. If I was affluent enough to afford a buy in for 8000 points, I'd likely not be working and if living at Disney was my daily life, where would I go on vacation? The moon?

I don't want to peek behind the curtain too much: don't want to see Cinderella with curlers in her hair and without her makeup...

One of our biggest awakenings has been getting to know managers and CM's. Once they get to know you they stop acting on stage and they start to share the real Disney. Many are frustrated with current policies, fewer full time employees, strange work schedules.

With 8000 points, if you averaged about 22 points per night over all the nights, you could stay in studios year round and live in Disney resorts. And only about $48,000/year in dues at $6 per point. But, the initial buy in would probably be close to $1 million at current resale prices, depending what resorts you purchased. I'm not doing the math on how much it would cost to live in a bungalow year round, lol.

I just need 2800 points to spend the winter (JAN-Mar) in Florida in a 1 bedroom @ SSR. Buy in @ 224k and 14 to 15k a year in MF.

Being from Boston and suffering through last winter, that seems like a bargain. ;-)

I'd live there if I could live like this:

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking the cap was somewhere between 5-10,000, but wasn't sure.

I do like the idea of staying at Disney year around :-) Although I think I'd go nuts in a studio after awhile.

And... I know you mean well by offering financial advice on better ways to spend my money on points outside of a DVC resort, I have my reasons and was asking a question for my own purposes. Sometimes cheaper isn't always the goal.

You sound a little shady. I like it. Have you considered Golden Oaks?

You would be better off renting a nice home near Disney for a few months on VRBO or HomeAway or AirBnB

I would actually be better off buying my own home and renting in 9 months of the year.

But that didn't fit within the fantasy of the post of owning thousands of points.

I say do it if you can!
