Is there a April 2008 code watch thread? **This seems to be it!!

In Wisconsin, where we are from, all the Spring Breaks are in March. We are coming April 9-16 to avoid the crowds and to be able to swim. We have come each of the last three years in mid-Feb and while it is pleasant walking around the parks in upper 50s or mid 60s weather, which it has been much of those trips, it isn't good for swimming (even for us hearty weather folks). Not that I complain about 60 degrees in February, but we thought we would try something different this year.

I really hate to break it to you but April will be beyond crowded. March and April are spring breaks for various parts of the country and the place is jam packed.

I just wasn't sure if you knew that. If you are looking for good swimming weather with lower crowds you should check out allears.net they have a historical attendance area that gives a pretty good idea of when to travel based on crowds.
HTH!

We're going April 8 - 13, and I have noticed quite a few posters indicating they are going around this time also. I am a little worried that it will be extremely crowded at that time, even though Easter will be over by several weeks.

see my post above yours. Mid-march through mid-April are spring break times and very crowded. It's pretty rare these days for spring breaks to have anything to do with Easter since Easter moves around so dramatically from one year to the next. My DD's school break is the first week in April. My friends' children are on break the week after that and another friend, her children are on break 2weeks later. A lot depends on when the children get out of school. My DD is out before the end of May while others aren't out until the end of June.

We are going 4/5 to 4/12. That is sprink break for our schools in Shiawassee county. Does anyone else have Spring break that week? I spoke with my friend who lives near Orlando and she said her kids spring break is in mid March. I hope it is not too crowded. I've never been to Disney in April. It it warm enough to swim? I like it to be in the mid to high 80's.

We are going that same week. It is spring break for parts of NC (like us), and I think I read it was spring break for the Atlanta area. I expect it to be reasonably crowded, but not Easter week crazy. We have not been before in April, so I am looking forward to good swimming weather and longer park hours. We went this year in January and my DD8 still swam, so April should be great!

Our spring break is always the 3rd week of March, but we start in the middle of August and are done by Memorial Day. However, school schedules around the country vary so widely, there are all kinds of breaks we don't have here.

We went the last full week of April in 2006, and had perfect weather, mid 80's and no rain, and low crowds.

We are going a week later this time and hope for the same kind of experience.

Can anyone tell me how it may compare to last Presidents day week? It was VERY crowded then. I am a bit concerned now - we are going April 3 - 11. It is not even a break for us, I am pulling my kids out of school. I only picked it because the week of March 30 and the following week are listed as WW of Disney on their site and a CM told me they would be good weeks. I am feeling a bit mis-lead. I was so hoping for lighter crowds. I wish I found this site before I booked but it is too late now.:confused3

Hope this helps...this is from allears.net

Even Walt Disney World has some quiet times. OK, maybe not quiet, but less crowded! Think about this: if your kids are on vacation, chances are so are everyone else's! And when it's vacation time, WDW is a crowded place!

I remember in the early 1990s being able to walk into Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom first thing in the morning in late January and not see anyone. While those days are long gone, there definitely are better times to go and times to avoid when it comes to crowds.

Special events and promotions can influence theme park attendance so find out if anything special is going on during your visit.

United States Holidays that may affect crowd levels can be found by clicking here!

Disney states:

The Lowest Attendance --

* January (except New Year's Day) until just prior to Presidents' Week in February
* The week following Labor Day until the week prior to Thanksgiving
* The week following Thanksgiving until mid-December

More Moderate Attendance:

* After Presidents' week in February through early March
* Late April through early June (except Memorial Day weekend)
* Columbus Day Weekend (October)
* The first part of Thanksgiving week

Highest Attendance:

* Presidents' week in February
* Mid March through Late April ("Spring Break")
* Memorial Day weekend
* Mid June through Labor Day
* Thanksgiving Day and weekend
* Christmas week through New Year's Day

I expect that it will be less crowded than President's week by a long way (could be wrong, though :goodvibes ). Easter is early next year, which is kind of messing things up for figuring out crowded times. We have friends who went last year in early April - they said it was insane. It was also the week before Easter and a very popular Spring Break week. Next year, it seems that spring breaks are all over the place. We know people who always have the week before or the week after Easter - doesn't matter if Easter is in March or April. When we lived in upstate NY, the schools had an April break - it didn't matter when Easter was. Next year, their break is April 12-19 week. Some other NE school have April 19-26. Many northern schools have a February break that is always President's week. Our school district has a four day weekend over President's Day - we know several people going to WDW then, hoping it won't be too crowded. It almost definitely will be crowded then.

We picked the week of April 5-12 because it is our Spring Break, because it is not Easter, because there are no major holidays at the beginning or end, and because Disney said it was a wonderful week (actually, that just made us feel better about it - we had already picked). There will be other people there on spring break, as well as folks like you who took their kids out of school. It will not be as crowded as the weeks surrounding President's Day, Easter, 4th of July or Christmas (my prediction, of course). It won't be as empty as the third week of January or the first week of May, but the parks are open longer than they are in January and it is not as hot as it is in May. There should be (relatively) low humidity and it should be great for swimming. It will get dark later due to Daylight Saving Time.

So, we will get up early, be there for rope drop, use Fast Passes, and go back to CSR to swim once lines exceed 30 minutes. We might skip parades to have shorter lines. We might be gone from the parks way before the parades. We will come back to the parks after dinner if we still have energy left - they will be open later. We have already made our ADRs. We will have a great time as long as we are all healthy!

I have not seen WDW empty since the week after September 11 (we seemed to be one of the few families who didn't cancel our vacation then). There will always be crowds, but if you want to go in the springtime, I think you have picked a good week!

I picked the dates of 4/2 to 4/10 for these same reasons. I too don't think it will be extremely crowded. And I hope we're right!:thumbsup2

Oh, thank you so much you guys! I feel better and know that we will have a wonderful time - what great attitudes! We waited in long lines for everything last Februrary and just thought that was how Disney was. I know here in Maine our April break is much later. But everything you said makes so much sense and I am hoping onto your optimism bus!:banana:

I am hoping my ADR schedule is good enough! I am thinking perhaps eating dinner a bit later may be better - we are eating mostly at 5:00 - 5:30. What is your opinion with that?

Sarah R.

We are going 4/2-4/7, and I just made my ADRs last night and got breakfast at cp before the park opens, and chef mickeys' for 8:05, and 50s prime time for 2 pm, our first time choice. I was surprised we got all the times we wanted and am also going on the optimist bus that it will not be crazy busy like easter week.

I understand what allearsnet is saying in theory, but it doesn't agree with the official WDW site. If you look at their "Wonderful Weeks of Disney" page (link below), they list the first 2 weeks of April, but nothing at all in May or June. We'd like to go back in the spring, but had pretty much written off spring break because, well, it's spring break. Like many of you, our spring break is the first week in April, which seems to be when WDW expects low crowds, so I'm reconsidering. Now if only I can get a decent price on airfare.

I can only speak to whats going on around here. Easter is mid March and Passover is around April 20th. So our school Districts in the New York Area are giving 2 breaks a short Easter break and a bonus week around April 20th. Normally Easter and Passover are the same time period so you get one break. I think this is going to make mid to late April alot more crowded this year. But hey you'll be at WDW :woohoo:

I didn't schedule late ADR's, but only because I have 2 small kids, who are used to eating at "dinner time." That said, if it was just dh & I, or if we were travelling with teenagers or something, I'd be making later ADR's. I also think it depends on your schedule. If you'll be up and out for park openings and will be eating an early breakfast and therefore, an early lunch, then 5:00 ADR's will be okay. It all depends on if you're early risers or not.

My kids are a bit older (10, 8 and almost 6) but we do eat pretty early at home. We plan to be up and at em everyday so I think I will keep my early ADRs - thanks for the advice!:thumbsup2

We usually eat dinner around 6, so I made ADR's based on our usual schedule. The parks are open late enought that we can back for Spectromagic, fireworks, and a last ride or two! :thumbsup2

Have I missed it? I thought someone said a code for April may be out in November. Still waiting and hoping and dreaming...:rolleyes1
