My family of 5 has narrowed it down to POR and CR standard garden view wing. Is upgrading to the CR worth it for the monorail and bigger room? There have been several bad reviews on the CR lately. It also appears that the POR may have a better pool and play area for my little ones. We will be traveling in April with two 4 year olds and a 12 year old. What's your thoughts on this? :flower:

We've stayed at both. I had to drag my dh and dd, then 10, kicking and screaming to CR. But, they both fell in love with it. We stayed in the North Wing, ground floor room. We have stayed at POR three times. Yes, POR does have a better play area and the main pool is terrific. Add the other 6 quiet pools and you'll have better swim options. But, at CR you can walk to MK, take the monorail one stop away and hop on the Epcot monorail. You can take the resort monorail to the Polynesian and GF and use their restuarants. You can take a boat over to WL and FW. Chef Mickeys is right there at your resort. We loved CR...loved the hustle and bustle of it. The theming isn't as great as at POR but that didn't bother us too much. If I had a choice between the two, especially with 5, and money wasn't a huge issue, I would go with the CR. After all.....you will most likely not spend a great deal of time in the playground area. And the pool choice isn't a deal breaker for me..others may have to have that better pool, but I'll take being on the monorail any day!!!

I know this is not what you were asking, but have you thought about the Dolphin or Swan. We are a party of five as well. We were planning on staying at the CR as well, but new teacher, AAA, other discounts have just come out at the S/D. The discounts save us over $100 per night over the AAA discount we were getting at the CR. We stayed at the D/S two years ago and my kids loved it. We walked to Epcot and MGM. We boated over to the Boardwalk and we went for snacks to the YC/BC. My kids loved Tubbi's for breakfast and were very happy at the pool and beach. I loved being able to see the fireworks from both Epcot and MGM. The room was plenty big and accomodated 5 people. Good luck picking, but if you are open, you may want to take a look at D/S.
