Is the Spa open on embarkation day?

Yes, this is definitely an excellet time! We often aim for appointments right after the safety drill. It's a great way to kick off the cruise.

the massage on castaway cay is especially nice (and serene...it's nice to be in a cabana (as opposed to a treatment room)....

Well, the cabanas are USUALLY serene...
But I did run into an exception! We were on a cruise awhile back where there was also a LARGE group from an investment company. A large group of them set up camp on the adult beach right by the cabanas, and apparently they were consuming mass quantities of alcohol and getting louder as the afternoon went on. Instead of the gentle crashing of waves, I listened to their loud conversation all through my massage. I'm sure glad I don't have investments with their company because they were saying some very unprofessional things, including references to specific clients. I guess alcohol sometimes loosens lips a bit too much, as well as turning up the volume.

oh that would be awful........serenity bay barely had a handful of people on it when we were there.....
as for alcohol....no need to twist my arm about its ill effects....
i find alcohol consumption even more disturbing than cigarettes....(a filthy habit but at least the people don't act scary as a result of it).....
one of the reasons i really can't stand pleasure island.....
i was worried the ship was going to be like that....
thankfully we encountered very little of that....
by the way, the person who gave my daughter her massage at serenity bay was as sweet as can be....an adorable woman from south africa.....
