I was looking in the DVC point charts for next September (2003) and noticed that the Magic is not sailing on 9/13 and 9/20. Does anyone know if the ship is going into Dry Dock for refurbishment?? I was planning on the usual september points sale that DVC has on the Cruises. If they take 2 weeks of service out, that may not happen next year.

Yes, the Magic's first cruise after dry dock will be the October 11, 2003 western.

Hey Scott - I love the dino avatar! If you really like dinos, check out my Jurassic Corner.

I'm confused! We have a cruise book for Sept 13, 2003, and we are going on the Magic... That's what my confirmation form states...what gives? Are we not going, are we going on the WOnder, or a NEW ship maybe???

I made a reply to this post earlier, but after rechecking the DCL Quote System, I decided to delete it and start again.

Originally, the Magic was scheduled to go into dry dock and miss the cruises that would have been on Sept 13 and Sept 20, 2003.

Earlier this year, they changed it and had cruises blocked out for Sept 20, Sept 27, and Oct 4.

I just rechecked the online quote system and they now have cruises available on Sept 6, 13, and 20. It is not available on Sept 27 or Oct 4. It resumes again on Oct 11th.

So, Newbycruiser, I believe you are scheduled to sail on the Magic just as your confirmation states.

It now looks like the Magic is scheduled to go into dry dock starting Sept 27 after it returns from the regular 9/20 cruise. It is scheduled to be back with passengers again starting Oct 11th.

hope that helps

Yep, albiats! I just checked and got the same results. The only thing I remembered for certain was that Oct. 11 was the first one after dry dock. But now they DO show the Sept. cruises up until the 27th. As far as DVC points, maybe because the Magic will be in dry dock from 9-27 until 10-11, they might not open it up to any specials on DVC points (in an effort to make up for time out of service).

In addition to the drydock there was a post (I think in a trip report) about rehabbing staterooms in blocks beginning in 2003. Has anyone heard any more on that?

I haven't heard anything specific about this, but they wouldn't need to dry dock to do this. They can do this during the dry dock, but can also continue doing it during the turnaround, or even during cruises with empty cabins.

The main reason for a ship going into drydock is for maintenance of those parts of the ship that are usually underwater. Most of the maintenance can be done while the ship is in service, but it occasionally has to go in for it's "100,000-mile checkup."

Thanks! I was just wondering because of possible noise - but I'd expect DCL to manage that as well. :D

I think that they'd do a good job of managing the noise, if there is any. While I've noticed tons of maintenance going on during the cruises, I don't remember it ever being an inconvenience.

While they don't need drydock to do it, alot of the major stuff which would impact passengers' enjoyment of the trip, such as painting or re-carpeting large public areas, is also done while the ship is out of service.
