is the DDP worth it for one day?

We are hitting Disney for one, sigh, day. Wish it could be longer, but that's all I can manage financially while we are piggy-backing off DH's business trip April 27th to May 1.

We will surely be eating at the parks, so should we get a QS or the DDP with one TS? When we go to DW, I usually like to have one sit down meal, just to avoid the cafeteria tasting food that QS has in most places.

We will be in Epcot for one day. Very familiar with the restaurants, but I never put any thought into whether the DDP is a value. I just like not thinking about it.

But, with price being paramount, which way is best? OOP or DDP?

I guess it depends on how you like to dine. Will you eat 2 desserts plus a snack in one day? If that's too much, then you're not going to get your money's worth.

Are you interested in signature dining? Because you wouldn't have enough credits to do the signature places but if you're paying OOP, then you can consider them.

You will be able to control your costs better if you're paying OOP, so if cost is a heavy consideration, then I would say thumbs down to the DDP.

If price is paramount then you need to do the math and figure out how much you would spend with each option.

Oop - definitely

Unless your TS is a Dinner Character buffet, I would pay OOP. With only one day I would need complete flexibility and if I did a TS it would be for lunch at LTT or Plaza so DDP would cost me more $$$.

If I were in Disney for only 1 day I wouldn't waste a lot of time in a table service restaurant. At Epcot I think there's enough decent counter service options to satisfy. I might do the qs plan. You'd get a refillable mug each. That's a decent souvenir.

Are you the kind of person who wouldn't order something that they really want because of price? Would you say your kids can't have another snack because they already used your credit?

I actually don't think Epcot has very many "cafeteria" tasting foods at all so I'd go with two QS there and maximize my time.

So, my vote is OOP.

Are you staying in a disney resort?

What are the ages of your family?

Where would you dine if you bought the regular dining plan?

If I were doing one day at the parks and I were part of a 2 adult, 2 kids 9 and under group, I would probably get it.

Since you mentioned visiting Epcot, my strategy would be:

Dinner at Chefs De France around 7ish - I like the filet here.
(You could also do a buffet.

Lunch early wherever you like fairly early 10:30 to 11ish.
(Do the cereal and coffee juice in the room thing earlier.)

Snack in between.

Refillable mug for a Disney souvenir. Use it to drink ice water in the parks.

You would not save a great deal, but could set a realistic budget with an idea of what you would spend and where you would eat.

Winging it may cost more or less. In my case it always costs more.

I considered this last month and I am glad I did OOP. I spent $38 for one day for just myself.

Totally agree. Your one park being Epcot is a game changer. You can get good CS food there.

I usually never think the DP is a good deal financially. However, with only one day, you could deduct the price of the mug to make it more justifiable.

Depends on what you want it for.

If you have restaurants in mind (you will have 1 TS, 1 CS and one snack if you do the regular plan) then add up what you will all order there and see if it matches or exceeds the cost of DDP.

Decide if the resort mug is going to be worth it to you for two days.

If you're not staying at a Disney-operated resort, DDP is not an option.

If you are staying at a Disney resort on a conference rate, DDP is probably not an option.

It might actually be a better deal for one day. Because even with one day you get the mugs, the Disney Quest tickets, $15 to spend at Planet Hollywood, one cs and one ts. If you did a restaurant like say Biergarten or Akershus then you would def make out on top. But you could def eat well and spend a lot less OOP.

I was thinking the family were DVC because of the rent trade logo and DVC doesn't really do a package to get all those extras.

Yes, we are DVC members but I rented out my points a while back. Then, because my points couldn't be used till June (our trip is in April/May) I rented someone else's points to stay at BWV. Confusing, I know LOL

Anyway, I have to think on it more. I do usually like to eat TS for one meal, but this is a budget trip and I guess it would be cheaper to eat QS OOP. It's just not as much fun :p

Thanks for the opinions/advice!

We did a one night/one day stay at Disney last year. We saved over $100 with the Deluxe plan. We ate dinner at Boma, breakfast at Chef Mickey's and dinner at CP. For us the Deluxe plan was money well spent.

Figure out where you would eat your TS meal. - you need to make reservations
Go to allearsnet and check the meal/prices and find out what your meal will cost.
Do $4 for your snack and $15 for your CS
Add the all up
Which is cheaper (OOP or DDP) ?

Too much math and research for me! I'm far too lazy to do all that, so I rely on my DIS-ers. :confused3 :lmao:

Ugh. I guess I have to get to my research now...:(

On a point rental you will not get the package extras like $15 at Planet Hollywood, etc.

You do need to do the research to find out if you'd actually be spending MORE money on DDP. We can't guess where you'll eat or what you'd order if you were not on DDP.

I've used the deluxe plan when I want to do a signature. Especially when it was $78ish. But now it is about $100 a night. It's a great idea if you can eat all that food or if that is how you eat to begin with.

Personally, I can't do 3 buffets over 2 days. Or for that matter, 3 large sit down meals.

I would never do the Deluxe. Way too much food. One TS credit and QS + snacks otherwise is fine.
