If I get a room (on Disney site) starting during the value season...but, go into the Peak Season...I still get the "Value Rate" all the way through...Is it the same if staying "on site" at Universal?

No. If you get a value rate 12/23 you can go through Christmas and New Years on that rate? Not at Loews.

I've lucked out staying at Disney going into some of their more expensive seasons by starting out during a Value Season...and continuing to pay Value price....But, it would be the same if I started out during a Peak Season and stayed on through the Value Season...I'd have to pay "peak price" all the way through...

I wonder when I can find out what the cost would be to stay at the Hard Rock next February....starting out the Wednesday evening before President's Day...and departing on President's Day. I tried on line..just to see...and it said it wasn't available..probably, I was doing it too soon...I was kicking around Easter for next year...but, saw that it was in March...I figured the grandkids could miss one day of school...(Thursday before President's Day) and it wouldn't be as crowded as Easter...

nope.
i am starting the UO on site trip during value season but it goes up on the weekend. universal does not carry through the same rate if the season rate changes.

i know disney does not change the rate when you go into another rate season but booked at the value time.

be prepared for that to change with disney in the future.

i read that until disney can devise a way to increase the rates during one booking period that involves 2 different rate seasons, it will be one rate throughout. enjoy that one perk there while you can. it will bite the dust one day.

this is not a disney thread but do want to take the time to correct you.

if you start disney in a high/peak season and during your stay the rate drops due to a lower rate season, you can avoid paying the high price throughout.

you make two ressies. one for the high season and then a second the day value season begins. most of the regulars set up 2 ressies in order to pay less.

i do both parks, universal and disney and have done the above.

Ahhhhh.....Well..Although I love Disney...and go there often...my granchildren are getting older and are asking to go to Universal/IOA.....I've been there twice...but, have never taken everybody else before....My husband and I really liked the Hard Rock Hotel...and figured the kids would too....:)

Yes..I'm sure Disney will be taking quite a few perks away...After a while...it won't be a "plus" to have an Annual Pass...:sad2:

Hey..that is good to know...I think I read it on one of the threads that the same ......(starting out during peak seaon and having to continue that way)...I had never started out during peak..myself...unless it just stayed that way...

For Univeral...when would "peak" begin before President's Day?

when the disney annual passes went to over $430 , i quit renewing mine.
cheaper to buy the tickets thru other sources on line. i rarely was able to get the ap discounted on site rooms as only a portion was available per resort.
would have to use my aaa for the small discount.

the ap for universal has better perks and renewal is 99$ for the year.

hope you enjoy the trip with the gchildren.
we really like hrh also, glad you do too.

I'm not trying to turn this into a debate, because I love Disney AND Universal.
Just wanted to point out that I used AP discounts twice at Disney in 2006. In March/April (peak spring break season), we stayed at both All Star Movies and Port Orleans Riverside and saved enough money that my AP was essentially free. Then we stayed again at POR the week before christmas with an AP discount.

But yeah, I agree that Universal is a great value, with AP's or with regular tickets.

Disney may (for now) give you the same rate throughout your visit, but I find that the Universal resorts are a better value. I like the fact that you do not have to be paid in full 45 days prior to your visit. In comparing apples to apples (the GF to the PBH) the PBH is almost half the price. I also love both and will not compare the parks and/or park ticket prices - it all about the resorts.

While I do love both I can compare my bill that is hung on the door on checkout day. At WDW, where the resort is paid before we get there our check out bills have been average $5-6000 for 2 adults 5 nights at the GF compared to $3-3500 for the same amount of time at the PBH with 1 nights deposit and the balance paid at check out.

I can save the amount of my annual pass in almost one night in April at the HRH. The normal price is $334 and I am paying $179 for one night using my annual pass. We are staying for 4 nights so it is almost like they are paying us after the second night.

Prices vary a lot at the Universal hotels. They don't seem to rigidly stick to one rate or another but fluctuate depending on vacancy at the time.
