Is Spirit Air going out of business?

Most airlines, SW the major exception, charge a change fee even if the only thing you're doing is getting a price adjustment. You really don't have a right to be PO'd if you don't check the terms you're agreeing to before you book.

The airline can't bill us if the fare goes up. Why should they have to give us a full credit if the fare goes down?

That seems very odd. I've done the price adjustment several times and I'm simply issued a voucher--no change of tickets and certainly no fee! I'd be pretty PO'd if they tried that!

I too was wondering about Spirit. We flew spirit 2 yrs ago to WDW. But I can't come up with a price lower that $900 for me and DD. Right now Northwest would be about $600 for the 2 of us. Spirit doesn't have a good selection of flights for the trip home on a Sunday.

You guys are great! Glad I found this board. We cruise the Wonder on 3-2-06, can't wait!

The Flint flight has a direct flight out on Saturday mornings only... both ways! So it isn't a good option for the return flight home...!

No it isn't. AirTran's non-stop Flint-Orlando flight operates everyday, leaving a 7AM.

As recently as last September, Spirit was selling tickets that could be repriced with no fee. Later (I want to say March '05 maybe) they changed their terms and conditions to add this $40 fee. It's about middle of the road. Some airlines are more---at least one charges $100 to reprice---and some are less. Southwest doesn't charge. Northwest charges $25.

It would be nice if they didn't charge us to change the price, but they certainly don't have to, and as long as you know the rules going in, you won't be surprised. This is why it's worth it to actually read the terms and conditions each time.

MAH: I think Kimmielee was saying that the only direct flight on Saturdays is in the AM, not that the only direct flight was on Saturdays.

Spirit will typically keep their fares very high, and then all of a sudden then will drop. For Easter Week 2005, I checked every week day starting in May of 2004. On a Tuesday in September, they dropped their fares and I booked for about $200 pp. The next day the fares were back up to $600.

Sorry, I meant to say on mornings only.... doesn't work for a return flight after the cruise! :confused3

This is true, they also set the price based on how many sets are avilable. If you buy a bunch of them, it goes up, then it will go down later.

Once I tried booking 4 seat at once, the price went from from 89 to 149 per person each way. It would let me book 2 at time, not 3 or 4. So I had to book 2 a that rate. When I booked the 2 the new price went up to 149 per person. This is where I got creative and I kept hitting the back button on my compter until I got to a screan where it gave me the price I wanted and booked from there.

We are leaving in around 5 months, I am thinking I should book now.

Double check with Spirit about the credit voucher before you book with them - I was told that they discontinued that policy a few months ago. We often fly Spirit and I was always able to book the lower fare if the fare went down and apply the difference to a future flight (had to be same name, within one year). Within days of booking our October flight the fares fell and I tried to rebook - they charged me a fee (I think it was $40) which was more than the difference between the fares - I contacted guest services twice and even spoke to a supervisor to confirm that they changed their policy. Now that Southwest is flying out of Phila I will book with them (unless I just need the convenience of flying out of AC) - their customer service so far, in my experience, has been superb! - and you can use the credit voucher for a ticket in anyone's name, no matter who the original ticket was booked for- no fee for changing !!

OOOooops ! looks like I posted without reading the 2nd page ! I see that others have confirmed the change in policy and the $40 change fee for spirit.
