Is something happening the last week of Jan 2019?

i have a conference I will be attending the last week of January (FETC). I want to stay for a few extra days and go to Disney World. When looking at getting a hotel, I notice a lot of rooms are already booked. I would think that week would be a pretty slow week, but I am guessing that something is going on that week. Anyone know? We will officially be there Jan 30-Feb 2, 2019. Just wondering. Thanks!

@BensWife - FYI, moved your thread to the Resorts board.

So you’re looking to book three nights? The shorter stay may be working against you with Disney’s booking algorithms.

Yes, National Dance Team Championships occur 2/1-2/3 next year so rooms are blocked or either limited and more expensive at the select Value resorts starting with the Thursday night before the weekend competitions as the groups start to trickle in. I remember the only rooms available at the All Star Sports this year were preferred rooms during the weekend. In looking at the schedules, the All Star Resorts & Carribean Beach Resort is where the dancers are staying. Other Values may be affected accordingly due to unavailability of these resorts with rooms blocked for regular guests.

Try searching for a longer stay and see if the room you want becomes available with more nights. If it is, call Disney and mention this and see if they can book the room for you. They have algorithms set up that make it difficult to find rooms for shorter stays. I did this for one of my stays, they had to have someone else them override it, but I eventually got the room I wanted for the dates I needed.

We went the last week in January this year. We stayed at POR & were shocked at how busy it was. The food court was packed every morning, no matter what time we went, from 8 - 10:30 or so. And I mean people were walking around with trays of food, looking for tables. It was more crowded than when we used to go in the end of August. We felt the parks were crowded too. It seemed to be families with kids. We didn’t see any thing I could identify as sports or school groups. I’m still trying to decide if we should try that week again next year or not.

We will be there Jan 24-29. We pushed back to this week to avoid a few events.
