I am not a smoker and was just curious if smoking is allowed on board the ships? If there is smoking is it outside only or are there restaurants or bars that have smoking areas?

Thanks,
Laurie

Yes but in segregated locations like the nightclubs during the day. I am not sure if on Deck is open territory though....

Smoking is allowed most everwhere outside. The exception is the Mickey pool area.

I was not happy with the deck four lounge chairs when someone would start smoking up-wind from me.

There is no smoking in the cabins, but it is allowed on your verandah.

Good luck. I think Disney could do more for the non-smoking folks, such as limit outdoor smoking to one side of the ship. Given how inovative Disney has been, I think they could come up with something better than they have currently.

BEING FROM NY WHERE SMOKING ISN'T ALLOWED ANYWHERE IT WILL BE WEIRD TO BE IN SMOKE FILLED AREAS. mY DAUGHTER ALSO SUFFERS FROM ASTHMA CAUSED BY SMOKE SO I HOPE THE DINING AREAS ARE SMOKE FREE :earseek:

The dinning areas are smoke free. The lounges are smoke free during the day and smoking is permitted after 9PM when kids are not allowed there. If it has not changed recently.

I thought that you weren't allowed to smoke on the verandah's. I'm not sure but I hope my verandah neighbors are non-smokers:)

Smoking is permitted on all verandahs. Smokers might actually be more likely to book verandah staterooms, knowing that smoking is prohibited in almost all interior areas of the ship, including staterooms. So having someone smoking on an adjacent verandah is a real possibility. When at sea, between the movement of the ship and the sea breeze, smoke is unlikely to linger -- so it shouldn't be much of a problem. But, if you're sensitive to smoke, it could be problem in port.

And while Beat Street/Route 66 becomes all smoking all the time after 9:00 - the Prominade Lounge remains a great spot to indulge in one vice (great martinis) without being forced to indulge in somone elses other vice.

Thanks Horace.

I'll be so happy to be on a cruise that I don't think much will bother me. :cloud9: I was only kidding about having smoking neighbors on the verandah. But I honestly thought that I read somewhere that it wasn't allowed....but I've been wrong before...won't be the last time.

We had smokers in the cabin next to us. Everytime we opened our verandah door the smoke would come into our cabin. It really ticked me off. But I understand there is nothing DCL can do. I, too, am from NY and we don't have a lot of problems with smoking anywhere. I wish it was like that everywhere. ESPECIALLY on a cruise when you book a cabin with a verandah for sitting on to enjoy the fresh air.

boy, i'd get my butt tossed OVERBOARD if my hubby got on the ship and found out he couldn't smoke ANYWHERE!! :earseek: of course he only asked that a week ago(we sail 1/29).

he said..and trust that he is correct...any open deck area except near the kids pool. he didn't mention the varandah as we don't have one.

The Beat Street/Route 66 nightclubs have designated smoking and nonsmoking areas. Unfortunately, the smoke does not stay in one area, but at least you can maintain some distance from the source of the smoke.

Also, the interior of the Cove Cafe (which has a full bar) on Deck 9 is 100% nonsmoking.

Crisi,
Thanks for sharing about the Promenade Lounge! DH and I are always looking for a good (no, make that great) martinis! "Make mine "dirty", please!"

I like that the lounges in the evening have smoking only on the back tier of seats. It doesn't remove all of the smoke, but at least you don't have to be near it.

I am thankful that all of the rooms and dining rooms are non-smoking. I do not like the smoking on the lounge chairs directly by the pool, but hey, it is an outside deck.

Thanks Horace....we only strolled into the clubs for a minute - seemed very "grey haze" so I didn't notice any "non smokey" areas - even if there were non-smoking ones.

Unfortunately, some of the non-smoking areas in the lounges are literally adjacent to smoking areas. For example, there are two sections of Wavebands in which smokers can literally be sitting behind you. I guess the smoke must forget its training to stay in the proper area...somehow to always seems to cross the invisible barrier.
Smoke wreaks havoc with my sinuses...I wish they would ban smoking during "events" like the 70s party, Match Your Mate, etc. Surely the smokers could go half and hour or 45 minutes without lighting up, and smoking could be allowed in the clubs at other times when it's just general drinking and dancing.
But even with the current set-up, DCL is still MUCH better for non-smokers than RCCL, where smoking is even allowed in hallways and staterooms...ugh!

I only went in the clubs during the day, and they still smelled like smoke. I can only imagine what they smell like after 9pm when people are actively smoking.

I agree that most smokers are considerate. Most smokers observe smoking restrictions and only smoke where smoking is allowed.

Yes, smoking is allowed in designated sections of the Route 66 and Beat Street clubs on the Wonder and Magic (and the smoke doesn't stay only in those areas). I blame DCL, not the smokers, for the air in those rooms. Smokers don't "walk away" from Rockin' Bar D. They smoke there because it's allowed. Unfortunately, that means many other guests can't enjoy the events in Rockin' Bar D -- even though these events are part of what they paid for.

There should be no smoking at any time in Rockin' Bar D and Wavebands. Any adult passenger who wants to should be able to enjoy the shows and dancing in these clubs. Of course, this means smokers are welcome too. But smokers should not be welcome to smoke in these venues. Again, this is criticism of DCL, not a criticism of smokers.
