Is Shutter's as bad as the blog said?

In all of our 5 stays at the Caribbean Beach Resort, we have never eaten at Shutter's. But, we were pondering booking an ADR there for next May.

I read a recent blog that said everything about it....the wait time, the service and the food was horrible! I am hoping that this was an exception and not the rule.

Anyone eaten at Shutter's and had a good experience?

Both podcasts I listen to gave it terrible reviews. YMMV. Personally, I'd try some place that at least has a few good reviews. Also, I wouldn't make a special trip to CBR just for that restaurant. There are some resort restaurants I'd do that for (Boma, Kona Cafe), but not this one.

We'll actually be staying at the CBR so that's why I was thinking about Shutter's.

I have no reason to eat at Shutter's, and I probably would never go out of my way to dine there either. And the DIS review was horrible! Yankee candle pork ribs and autopsy steak still haunt me!:rotfl:

we have friends who stay at the CBR every year and absolutely love shutters! We made a reservation there for our stay in August. I guess I'll let you know. The only reason we made a reservation there is we are spending the day at the water park and dont want to have to worry about making a dining reservation on time.

I agree with HillPete...

I know everyone has different tastes and opinions and I try to keep that in mind when choosing a restaurant...but I have heard absolutely NO good reviews of Shutters, from friends, here on the Dis, or other places on the internet.

Perhaps someone here can refute that?

If you trust the reviews of random strangers on the internet, some seem to think it's pretty good. Checking allears and their review site, and found that 88% would recommend shutters and it has an average rating of 7.4.

You can see their comments http://land.allears.net/reviewpost/showproduct.php?product=160&cat=all

Fewer people reviewed it here on wdwinfo.com, but it got 100% positive recommendations here.

I was turned off just looking at the photos of the food on that review :scared1:

We ate at Shutters a couple of times last year. It was fine - nothing to write home about, but the server was friendly, the food was good and we got seated without a reservation within half an hour, so no complaints from me!

How is the breakfast? I'm only concerned about having this before I leave for the day to all the parks. I need my coffee first thing in the morning and the boys need to have a quick bite. What are the reviews on this?

Thanks

That's about the best reason I could think of to get a ressie there. You're staying there so it's convenient, in this case for dinner after spending the day at a water park and you don't feel like riding the bus elsewhere to eat.

The only time we ate at Shutters was when we got stuck at our resort leading up to Hurricane Francis in 2004. We were able to have a "last meal" before lockdown & as I recall, it wasn't particularly memorable good or bad - but it was adequate & pleasant enough. It is a very small restaurant, reminds you of a clean hole in the wall somewhere in a beach town.

Shutters doesn't serve breakfast

I'm trying it this fall simply because it's one of the only restaurants I haven't been to yet, and I want to try some new ones this trip. I'll let you know what I think.

We have ate at Shutters several times. Always found the food and service to be good. No complaints. On one visit we had a party of six, our two yr old daughter was sleeping through the meal and the server elected not to charge us the mandatory tip of 18%. Of course his service was so good he got it anyway.

Yes, it was bad. I ordered my steak medium and it was black on the outside and red on the inside. The caesar salad was good.

I've only eaten there once and that was maybe three years ago, but it was REALLY bad back then. They weren't busy, but service was very slow and I spent that night hugging the commode. I usually have a stomach of iron, but something made me very ill that night. I remember eating some burnt fritters, a bit of the outside of an undercooked steak (black on the outside and cold, red, and running blood on the inside), plantains, and don't remember the dessert. I had ordered the steak medium well. My tea glass had maybe two cubes of ice and I couldn't find my waiter to get any more. I asked the guy who brought the steak and dessert out, but didn't get a refill (or ice) either time. I didn't see my waiter again until he brought my check and informed me that the gratuity was no longer included on the DDP. This is the only time I have ever asked for a manager at WDW. I was told with a smirk that he was on break and they didn't know when or if he'd be back. Supposedly no one was covering for him.

I read some reviews last year though that said the food had improved though.

With all the great dining options in WDW, I would never waste a meal at Shutters.

Thanks for the reviews so far. The only reason we were thinking of Shutter's is because we will have my 76 year old mother with us and we really wanted to stay at the resort one night and do nothing. Anyone else?

We ate there 4 years ago and vowed never to go back. It was the only meal we had during our 10 day trip that all 6 of us agreed was horrible. It was so bad, that I'd consider changing resorts if you want to hang at the resort one night.

We stayed at CBR last year and ate at Shutter's once and we liked it. It wasn't the best restaurant in DW but we had no complaints. I wouldn't make a special trip to CBR to eat there but we were staying there
