Is September Too Hot???

I have been five of the last October's and the weather is also hard to predict. Usually its been warm to hot with varying levels of humidty. One year we were there just before Wilma came over Orlando, and the days before she arrived it was sticky humid with no breeze and quite uncomfortable. One year (this was 2008) our last couple of days were chilly, highs only in the mid 60's. This past year, we had a bit of everything!

Pros to October:
Food and Wine Festival (very fun to try the different booths)
Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party runs many nights

Cons to October:
MNSSHP running so often! Yep, its a pro and con. Its a pro because you have many nights to go, its a con because that means the MK is closed to a hard ticket event A LOT! It makes planning hard.

Food and Wine: Also a pro and con. F&W while very fun, does make Epcot very crowded, weekends in particular.

We have been once in late August into early September and honestly, that was a nice time. So uncrowded and to me it didn't feel that much hotter than most of our October trips.

If it were me, I'd go with September to have that last free trip for your almost two year old and pick a resort with a great pool. But then I'd do that for October too since it can be hot then as well. Obviously the later in October you go the less humidity you'll have. I'll also add that the first three weeks of October have gotten very much more crowded. So many schools have fall breaks, the UK has a very long break in Ocotber and many of them come to WDW and the Halloween Party and Food and Wine both draw in more locals. The last week of October is usually less crowded and I was thrilled when my kids fall break changed to that week. Way less crowded, but still more crowded than early to mid September will be. If you can, go in a time in Septmber before the Halloween party kicks into full gear but maybe have the latter part of your trip be when it is going. That way you can do the party without having to deal with it the whole trip!

YES:scared1:

We have tried the trip a few times in September and the humidity is intense to a point that it dictates the day.

You end up running from air conditioned site to site, you also end up doing things really early or after 6 p.m.

We ended up getting the Concierge Level at Wilderness Lodge one September (upgraded from POP) and spent more time at the resort than any other park because of the weather.

Good luck with your choice :yay:

I will plan around the heat and humidity because my family is miserable in it. And lovebugs - forget it. They don't bother some people, but they sure bother me. It doesn't matter to me that they don't bite - they land on me, and when I swipe them away they left black smudges on my clothes. The one year we ran into them, they were everywhere. So, no WDW during Sept. for us.

Hot? YES! But if you get to the parks first thing in the morning and leave around noon, then go back around 5:00-6:00, it is fine. It is my favorite time to go.

I've gone September with friends and it was very hot, the love bugs were everywhere but the crowds were manageable.

That said, we prefer it over other months because of many things - free dining, MNSSHP, F&W festival,etc.. You manage it by getting out early in the morning, leaving mid day to get out of the heat and then going back at night till the parks close!:surfweb:

I find it hot and humid but not has bad as summer. We went last October and it was heaven! The warmest day was October 31 and we got to 90 degres. As long as you check in the day before your DD 3rd b-day, she is considered 2 yo the entire trip

We have been on several late September trips and going back this year. Yes it is hot but with the right planning you will manage. We go to the parks early, leave around 2pm, go back to the resort to relax for awhile, then head back out to whatever park has EMH. Drinks lots of water and gets lots of shade- good luck!!

I've done late September twice and both times it was just as hot as August.

Yes it's hot, but I've found we seem to be able to tolorate the heat better. Maybe because we come from a cold winter climate but I suffer more in May then in September.

I would weigh pro's and cons of each ~ September CAN be hot with the lovebugs BUT a tropical system could blow and in and send lovely breezes (we actually EVACUATE to disney if a hurricane comes lol) Also there's the option of free dining which is cool too!

MNSSHP is my FAVE time to go to Disney and the weather can be AMAZING for Florida with nice breezy days and also lower crowds. With school in the crowds won't be an issue either time so just base it on cost and whether the Halloween party appeals to you. With more moderate temps and humidity October might be really nice and you can still swim...

We used to go every Labor Day and tho the weekend can be nutty, the Tuesday-Wednesday after Labor Day are some of the slowest park days you can experience (observed and also mentioned by a cast member)

Either way, enjoy :goodvibes

p.s. sorry for all the caps, I'm just passionate about Fall at Disney!

I agree September is a wonderful time to go. We were there in 2007 with DD 18 months and DD 2 (3 in October) and we had a blast. Lighter crowds, shorter wait times. I also chose this month because we received the dining plan for free and so that my 2 almost 3 year old could get in w/o having to pay. We are going back this year are expecting the same as when we went in 2007 plus parents (except me) aren't as willing to take kids out of school after they have just started again.

I went in Sept a few years back. I think it was the third week, and it was very, very hot and humid. In the 90's and much too hot for me to be walking around the parks. We were at the parks for rope drop every am and then back to the resort for pool time by noon or so. We had to constantly get wet and be in the water. It was still in the 90's some evenings. I don't think I'd ever chance going that time again, just because I don't tolerate the heat well. On the positive side though, the crowds were very minimal.

Super hot, especially the last week of September. Tell everyone you know to STAY AWAY!!!!

;) We found it tolerable coming from 100+ temps here in Oklahoma in August. It rained on us once, but we were in the pool and already wet. It's not bad and crowds are decent. Noticed love bugs here and there, but it wasn't more than a passing irritation, if even that.

No. If you take breaks and get plenty of fluids, you will be fine. And don't wear black clothing. The lower crowds will make the heat worth it.
