ive never taken advantage of cleaning services, im playing a 6 night stay in a 2BR at bay lake in november and i was looking at the prices here posted on the DVC website and i dont think its worth it?

any thoughts? opinions? bad or good past experiences?

Additional Full - Cleaning Rates:
Studio/Inn Room - $30.00 per day requested
One-Bedroom - $45.00 per day requested
Two-Bedroom - $60.00 per day requested
Three-Bedroom - $75.00 per day requested

I personally do not think that it would be worth it. Now granted, we have only had one 4 night stay (Wed-Sun), but we did not miss the daily service. We had trash & towel service on the 4th day (check-in day is day 1, so we had it on Saturday). They also replenished the toiletries, which I did not expect.

As I see it, the good points for having extra mousekeeping services (assume daily): Fresh towels each day, trash empty and bed made by someone other than me. While these are all nice, I do not think it is worth the extra fee for them.

I am ok with not having fresh towels each day. We do not get that dirty and we could always throw them in the wash if we needed to or go to the pool to get more. It is also nice that you do not have someone else coming in and out of your room each day.

In over 9 years of DVC stays, I've never purchased additional housekeeping and am glad they are not in the room each day. With a 2 bedroom, you can throw the towels in the washer. You can take the trash out yourself (there are trash rooms at every resort). $60 a day is too much. I could possibly see extra trash & towel service in a studio because they don't have washers in the room.

We've never purchased additional services, never really needed them. But, if I had the full capacity of people in a studio, I'd probably spring for some extra towel sets.

I've done 8 and 10 day trips respectively and have not added any extra mousekeeping service nor do I intend to either. Personally, I LIKE not having them in everyday. T&T service and the full clean once during the longer stays is plenty. We only clean once a week at home and we only change our sheets and towels every 5-6 days at home so why do it at our other home? Quite frankly, I can't see spending the extra $$ for someone to make the bed every day. Even with extra people with us, we've found that there are plenty of towels in a 2BR for 5 people.

We don't think it's worth it and have never done it.

Since you'll stay in a 2BR you'll have washer/dryer, so it's easy to just throw in towels on way out to parks & into dryer when you return or what I find easier is to wash & dry them in evening when we get back so next morning we start the day with fresh towels.

If you need extra towels you can get extra towel pack for $6 from mousekeeping ( iirc, it has 4 bath towels, 2 face & 2 wash cloths and bath mat)

Beds we just do real quick pull up of sheets, blankets and then cover with bed spread before we walk out door ( they sometimes look a little lumpy but who cares ? ) Vacuum is in closet if needed.

I don't have anybody picking up after me or cleaning for me at home so I certainly don't see paying somebody extra to do it on my vacation. We don't live like we're in a barn. Personally I am glad they don't come in every day. This way I don't feel the compulsion to clean for them!

I agree with others that the cost of daily housekeeping isn't worth it. But I wanted to add that, as you seem to be, we were reluctant to stay at a resort without daily housekeeping. For years, that was a BIG reason why we didn't join DVC-we just couldn't imagine living without daily maid service on vacation. When we finally decided to join, it was "in spite of" this one glitch. However, after one stay, we LOVED not having a stranger in our villa (at leas that we knew of!) and no surprise knocks from maid service at inopportune times.

DSIL insists upon it (2 bdrm). mousekeeping barely does anything for the $, as everything is constantly wiped down, swept, & made up before she comes in :confused3
personally, i dislike daily maid service anywhere, so prefer things just the way they are (we make the bed & pick up after ourselves).

In 12 years of membership, we have only paid for additional cleaning once, and that was last January at AKV. It DEFINITELY was NOT worth it. First of all, I paid for a full cleaning, and while they did change the beds and replace the towels, they did NOT vacuum or clean the kitchen and the bathrooms had no more done to them than a regular Trash and Towel service. I wanted the service because we had a change over in guests in our 2 bedroom, and I wanted the new guests to start out fresh.

Other than that, in our 12 years, we have found the every 4 day cleaning and trash and towel service to be more than adequate. We actually prefer not to have someone roaming around our "house" when we are out playing in the parks. I make the bed at home as soon as I hop out of it, and it is no more trouble to do that at Disney than it is at home. I can wash my own towels in the provided laundry too, and I'm certainly capable of taking my trash down to the trash room on my way out too.

I'm one of the few DVCers who prefers housekeeping. But I'm too cheap to pay those rates to get it. I can make my own bed, fold up a hideabed, and stack the dishwasher in about 15 minutes while everyone else is still getting ready - at $45 that would be $180 an hour.....as for towels, with a one or two bedroom, throwing them in the washer in the morning and the dryer in the evening isn't burdensome - and we don't wash towels daily at home.

If I had money to burn, I'd probably get housekeeping rather than heat the house with my extra $100s.....but there is something fundamentally offensive to me about paying someone $45 to make two beds, stack a dishwasher and replace towels.

Never paid for any "extras" either. We really enjoy the fact the villa will be exactly as we left it.

I haven't ever paid for additional service---and I've been known to run the vacuum to get up the cheerio dust that always seems to accumulate in front of the LR TV when the kids get up before we do.

To tell the truth, I probably vacuum more readily on vacation than I do at home. ;)

Nope, not worth it!

I really like not having the maids roust me out of bed in the morning. That's NO vacation. And the villa is really not that hard to pick up after. You just don't have the volume of "stuff" like you have at home.'

I'm with most everyone else. Never done it. Not worth it. And wouldn't want it if it was free. :)

In 17 years of DVC vacations we've never done it. Never missed it to be honest with you. The villa doesn't get that dirty. We really like not having someone come into the room when we're away.

In fact, when we travel, and if we are only going to be in a hotel for a day or two, sometimes we keep the "do not disturb" sign out all day, even if we're not in the room, just because we really don't want the service, or someone coming into the room when we're away.

You are so right!! :goodvibes
We've had 10 day stays and I don't recall anyone cleaning our villa either. :confused3

If you do not pay for Mousekeeping how often do they come in to clean or give you fresh towels?

Can you ask the front desk for more towels if needed?

Nevermind. I just looked at the post above me and it answered my question. :-)

This was one of my concerns for our recent first DVC stay. But I actually really liked not having daily service, we didn't mind at all reusing our towells. In fact we brought the practice home and now we reuse towells at home. My wife really likes the smaller laundry now :)
