Is recording separate from notifying DVC?

Much to my surprise, after passing ROFR on June 28, we received our closing docs on July 1st. Thank goodness for credit union shared services as we were on vacation and there were no bank branches near us to get the cashier's check!
Anyway, we received word that we closed on July 10. Most timelines I've seen show the recording happening the next day but ours isn't showing yet. Did DVC receive our info when they closed, or is it not sent until after recording has happened? Just wondering when to start my countdown on the wait for the points to be loaded :)

Regarding when your deed will be recorded:

Some title companies pay for a computer program which lets them submit the deeds electronically for recording. This significantly speeds up the recording process.

When you buy direct from Disney, they do not have this computer program. They fed ex the deed out to be recorded. The recording process is much slower this way.

I don't know which method your title company uses.

If you go to the Comptroller's website and go to the search page, in the top left corner it says "documents proofed through" and a date. I just looked (today is July 12) and it says documents proofed through July 2. So if you closed on July 10 and your title company fed exed the deed for recording, rather than submitting it electronically, it wouldn't be recorded yet. They haven't even recorded the deeds that they received on July 3 yet.

But as for the relationship between the date your deed is recorded and the date your points are loaded... can't help you with that.

Typically, from closing to points loaded in your account is between 10 to 14 days...sometimes a few earlier..

The times I bought resale, that is the timeline that followed for me from the date I was notified closing happened..

Thanks for the info. I'm still curious if anyone can answer my question- does DVC receive the info right after close or not until recording takes place? Will it take longer to get my points since occ is backed up?

After closing, recording the title deed and notifying DVC of the change in ownership are two separate events. DVC does not wait until a deed is recorded before it begins the change in ownership, nor does a title company wait until the deed is recorded before it notifies DVC that the resale transaction has closed.

Orange County Comptroller is not as backed up as some may think. The process of recording a deed should not be confused with accreting the deeds to the online database. As a prior poster stated, as of July 13, 2014, the OCC website has documents proofed through July 2. However, OCC has recorded items through July 11, 2014. For those records recorded after July 2, OCC may correct the document type (Deed, Notice, Assignment, etc.) or how the record was stored on the electronic database. However, documents have actually been recorded through July 11, 2014.

Over the years, I've seen items initially appearing on the OCC database under the wrong document type, such as a Notice of Waiver being labeled as a Deed rather than a Notice. I've also seen Marriott or other timeshare deeds erroneously showing DVD as the Grantor. Usually, but not always, these errors are corrected once the documents are finally proofed on the OCC database.

We closed last week too and ours is not listed on there either. I am glad you asked this question as I was wondering the same thing. I was told that it would mostly likely be 3 weeks before we got our member packet from Disney in the mail.

Update-exactly one week after close we were finally showing up on the comptrollers site!! When would be a good time to call Disney to see if we are in their syStem to get my member #? I want to book a June trip and the days are ticking past my 11 month mark.

We are STILL not showing :confused3

Have you followed up with your broker and/or closing agent? They should be able to tell you what is going on and what to expect. We bought two resale deeds through the Timeshare Store and Magic Title and they were excellent in keeping us apprised of what was going on.

Not yet, but I will on Monday. I'm not too worried since closing already happened, but I am coming up on the 7-month window for the trip I want those points for!

It took me days to find my Deed because I kept putting DVD in as the Grantor when I was suppose to put the name of the seller. Once I put in the sellers name and then my name the Deed came right up.
I checked it today and both my Deed and ROFR come up with just my last name in the Grantee spot, but right after I closed it didn't. I had to put in the sellers name for the website to find it.
Not sure if this helps but I thought I'd let you know.

I assume I'm filling it out right because it pulls up my contract I bought several years ago through DVC but that hasn't stopped me from trying every which way of filling it out :lmao:

Wendybeth, as for your question, NOW is a good time in my book :thumbsup2

Do you have a very common last name? I just put my last name in the grantee box, then went to the end of the list (most recent) and found my contract. That way you don't have to worry how they spelled or abbreviated the rest of your name.

I may call and see. I have read on another thread that some won't give you the info. I may make a daily call! I don't wanna wait!

We called today and no luck, we aren't in the system yet! We close almost 2 weeks ago. This wait is painful! I can almost taste it...

I'm happy to report that we ARE in the system!! Not so happy that he refused to help us. He said we would just have to wait for our mail.

ETA we called back and got our info from someone else. I was able to book my feb. Trip where I wanted :):)

Yay! Congrats Mommee! I am still waiting! Wierd that you were recorded yet but were in the system. We were showing up on Comptrollers site Friday. I think we will call back again tomorrow. You have given me new hope!
