Is Pop really that bad?

Some people love it, some hate it. Don't sweat the opinions. Just go and decide for yourself :)

We stayed there last August and I thought overall it was a great resort. Yes, it has its problems, but you could get that even at the nicer resorts. If I were trying to save some money, I would definitely stay there again. It is spread out and there is a lot of walking if your room is in the outer buildings. It can get a little noisy at times. I will miss the food court, which I thought was great for just grabbing something quickly. I think you'll enjoy it! :flower:

We are the GUEST RESORT SNOBS, and we normally stay at the dolphin/swan and truly are in love with the location/rooms/buses/food/ just about everything. After being at those 8-10 times we booked unexpectantly and could not find reasonable rates at any deluxe. (discounts/teacher rates/ aaa nothing anywhere) so we decided to try one of the (ugh) values.

Well I was not disapointed by the hotel itself. But I did notice a big difference in the fellow guests. The hotel was pretty cool actually. The transportation I found to be less than perfect but bearable. The food in the food court reminded me of a high school cafeteria, but not that bad and reasonably priced. Most not all cast members were great. And the distances from the 90s or the 80s was simply way to far to walk, to get back and forth to classic hall(food and gift shop).

On the whole if you are gonna spend alot of time at the resort then maybee consider changing, based on what you are accustomed to. I know we cruise twice a year and disney at least 3 times a year and I dont think I would be in a hurry to go back to pop. I would not pass up a trip because of it though!!!
Hope that helps.

ps Also as a cm I notice more things that are not right that most people dont see!!!

good luck and have fun!!!!

Well i did not want to elaborate as I generally dont like to insult people but because I am not aiming at one person i'll list a few examples.
Smokers were not as friendly.(congregate next to the kids pool) no it is not a designated area. People would just leave there trays and trash on tables outside, not being consideate enough that ther were x amount of people and y amount of cast members. Ignorance was basically what we ran into alot. On the bus guys not getting up and letting a pregnant mom sit, people letting there 3 and 4 year olds monopolize 3 seats during standing room only times. I know we put our 7 and 8 year olds on our lap which is uncomfortable, just to make more room, and then you watch what the kids are doing while the mom/dad are oblivious. Loudness at 5:30 am! Then at 1:00 am doors banging multiple times because the kids are running back and forth in/and out.Ok 10 pm is one thing but 1am? Most things I am saying happened multiple times not just once. I am not that much of a snob!!
Yes some of that does happen all over but never that frequent from the same place.

dis junkie you asked, Ithats the only reason i continued. There were quite a few other things but i do not feel the need to post them If you gotta know pm me

Thanks for all your help! I know I just need to chill out and enjoy the fact that we are going back to Dinsey alot faster that what was orginally planned. My DH keeps reminding me that this is our BUDGET trip and we will go all out when we go back in February 2006. I know I'll have a great time a Pop. Thanks for all your responses.

We were there 5/04 and are going back in Sept. We love Pop. I can't stay in the Mods because of their "smoking optional" rooms. I am severe asthmatic and can't handle a room that someone has smoked in previously. I think your vacation is what you make of it. If you go with an open mind and don't expect a deluxe resort then you will be fine. Just remember, "bad" things or experiences can happen at any resort, not just the values. I hope you have a wonderful stay and let Pop know we are heading back!
I was under the impression that all the Disney Resort Hotels have some smoking rooms. I know when I booked for Pop, they asked it I wanted smoking or not?!?
If you are staying away from the mods for that reason, all you need to do is ask them for a non smoking room. That is what we always do. My son has asthama but my husband smokes. We make him go outside to smoke (same rule in our house as well). In fact, each resort has many many more non-smoking than smoking rooms.

We were there June 1 prior to our cruise and my dd10 loved it. It really wasn't bad at all. I would stay there again.

As with all the resorts you will get different opinions from people that love or hate the resort. DW and I stayed at the POP this past Dec. 2004 and did not like it at all. We have always stayed at moderates (see list below) and found the POP to be to bare bones and quite a significant drop even from the moderates. If you are used to the WL then this will really be a drop. I

f you are going to be hanging out at the resort I would suggest one of the moderates instead. Our favorite now as it's only the two of us is POR but when we went with the kids it was the CBR.

We only paid $55 p/night last Dec. and that was quite a bargain but we still wished we had gone back to POR for $25 more per night.

Hope this hepls you out. :)

So pretty much stuff that can/do happen any resort.

Yup. You nailed it. If one is predisposed to see a difference in a certain group of people as a result of the actions of a few, one will find that difference.

By any chance did your hubby move up to smoke in front of our room, so the smoke wouldn't go into your room? (except in May we were at POR, not POP).
We had a guy smoking by our room (and it was sucked right in)..he said it was so his son with asthma didn't have to smell the smoke. Well, gosh, I got a non smoking room, so my asthma wouldn't be bothered. I just thought this was funny, because that is just what the guy said. :rotfl2:
I really wish that they would have a non smoking building, and those that smoking either stay in the smoking area, or move away from the non smoking building.

i think you cantlet bad reviews change your mind
everyone has differetn experiences
you need to go and see if YOU like it not others
go for it

Our first stay at a Value was Pop in August 2004. I'm a bit of a hot tub snob. We liked it so much we didn't do our usual Priceline arrival hotel for DH's Extravagant Birthday trip in Sept 04. And now that the free dining plan and Ding fares on SWA have trapped me, we're staying there again in Sept 05 for DH's extravagant birthday trip II!

I have heard way more good than bad about this resort. That's why we are staying there in JUST A FEW DAYS!!!!!!!! I can't wait and I know it will be wonderful because I will be at DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!!

 We're really close now!

We were at POR two weeks ago and drove over to POP to check it out and it looks great! All new and shiny and really fun and well done.
The only thing that I noticed, and I notice this because we spend whole days at the pool, is; there doesn‘t seem to be much shade at the pools, unless you grab one of the tables with umbrellas. The few trees they have are newly planted and not large enough to give one any protection from the sun. Keep that in mind when you plan pool time. Otherwise, it looks like a fun place.

You guys spend the whole day at the POP pool? Did you guys swim?

Im sorry to say it but IMHO, yes! We were there Memorial Day Weekend and I will never stay there again. We stayed in the 50's building as I paid for a preferred room. The conveninece was nice but I did not like the hotel at all. In fact, we checked out and changed mid trip over to the All Star Sports. Don't get me wrong, I am as budget-conscience as they come and enjoy doing and seeing new things but the walls were so thin I didn't sleep well at all. At home, cannons can't even wake me up! Also, I preferred the food much more over at the All-Stars. My best friend had stayed there with her family in March and warned me but I like to see things for myself. I was very disappointed. It's all a matter of taste and trying out things on your own. Good luck!

I think she is saying she noticed the lack of shade because they spend the whole day swimming (whereever she is)..not that she swam at POP. We too would have liked more shade, because no matter what resort we are at, we also swim a lot. It's why we usually go to POR suring the hot times we visit Disney.

I assumed, if you were preferred, you stayed in the 60's, since they are the preferred rooms :)

We've stayed several times at Sports and POP, and other than the fact that POP is still nice and new, the beds don't sag, and it's more, did I say new looking LOL?, I see very little difference (and as mentioned, sports has a tad (but just a tad) more shade near the pool). The food seems pretty much the same, with the tie dye cake and a couple of others the only differences I noticed..oh and that at POP, we didn't have to share buses. The flushing toilets are jsut as loud at Sports IMO. I do like the way the curtains close better at POP...much darker. Other than that, I think value is a value is a value..just the theming is different...so I can see why some might like the theme better at one resort over another.
