I am trying to decide when to go in 2017. What are the crowds like in mid October?

Five trips in July, then last trip in 2014 October ...No more July trips for us..Back this October ...Weather great..No tour groups..Food and Wine festival..Love the Halloween decorations, ( and us scots are not into trick or treat ) As far as crowds go, yes it's definitely quieter, just...lol..

I went mid October 2014 and found it to be incredibly hot. The crowds were so-so.

My wife and I had our honey moon at the end of October (and attended MNSSHP) into Nov and we had an awesome time!!!! It was warm enough still to go in a pool but cool enough that we didn't feel absolutely awful (like when we went mid July!). I HIGHLY recommend it, and if you manage to go at the end of Oct into Nov and stay long enough you can see the decorations for both Fall and Winter!

Oct is great. Weather is not as blazingly hot at the summer, crowds are good. We love this time.

October weather can go from pleasantly cool to miserably hot and humid. Never as bad as July, but uncomfortable none the less. The later in the month the more likely it is to be cool.
We have gone in October the last 10 years. Each and every year was more crowded than the prior year.
I now think of October as moderate crowds, a 7 - 8 our of 10. It is very doable with a plan, but it is no longer a slow time of year.
Good Luck

I agree completely! October used to be much less crowded, and the heat can be brutal or pleasant. Our trip in 2014 was miserably hot...heat index was near 100 until the last day of our trip when the dew points finally dropped.

I prefer November or early February, but with DD18's college fall break is in October so that's our only option for going this fall. I've noticed all deluxe resorts for our dates (a Wed-Sat) have been sold out for several months already which is making me a bit nervous, but we've been enough times to know how to plan so we still have a great time.

Worth noting that every year more and more school systems add a Fall Break, in Oct. So more and more it's becoming the 2nd Spring Break season. If you notice, most all of Oct was excluded from Free Dining this year. Fall Break is the reason. For now, it's mostly schools in the South, that start in early Aug, that are doing fall breaks. But it's spreading. So it's not the same as it was even 5 years ago.

My absolute favorite time to go! When my DD was younger, we would take her out of school. Once school became more demanding, my wife wouldn't let us do that anymore. :(

I loved my trip in October a few years back. The weather was great and the crowd level was low. Also was able to hit the food and wine fest so that was an added bonus for me.

Oct used to be a great time to go, until everyone else discovered it, too. Crowds are high and weather can range from blazing hot to beautiful. Search the boards to find all the reports on how crowded Oct has become.

October is the BEST time to go. You've got MNSSHP and Epcot Food & Wine going on, plus as people have mentioned crowds aren't so bad and weather is a bit nicer. It's definitely my favorite season at WDW.

We always go in October for a few reasons.
1. We love it not being so hot as it would be in the Summer.
2. We also love going to the F&W and the kids love it as well.
3. And to me it just doesn't seem as crowded.
We loved MNSSHP but we are not going this year figured we would give it a break. but it is well worth it. The fall is just a great time to go.

We have switched to November due to my boyfriend's schedule, but we used to always go between Columbus Day and Halloween and it was FABULOUS!

The weather in October is FANTASTIC! Soooo lovely. I love Oct because of a) the weather b) F&W and c) MNSSHP! Definitely my fave time to go. I have to admit though, i was really surprised at how crowded it was...particularly at MK. Monday nights, omg AVOID this place! My arrival was on monday and it was INSANE. Also avoid non-mnsshp nights. Its INSANELY crowded. This was my experience Oct 2015 (i went from the 26th to the 30th).

Our last trip was October 2014. We were there the last week of the month for 4 nights. It was still low to mid 80s, so swimming was fine and it was still tolerable heat while in the parks. The parks didn't seem to get too crowded until around lunch time.

I think if you go after Columbus day, or the last week of the month, you won't be as likely to run into school breaks.
