I have no hot water and the office doesn't open until 9. Is that considered an emergency or do I have to wait until the office opens? This is going to be a great day...

What office? Do you live in an apartment?

If not, check the pilot light -- maybe it's out. Strong gusts of wind will blow out ours.

Sorry, yea we do live in an apartment. We have never not had hot water before. And I can't NOT take a shower before work.

I would call and say it is. Let the office determine if it ISN"T an emergency or not.

Let them tell you it isn't. As long as you don't get charged with an after hours maintenance fee or an upcharge on your rent or something like that for a "false alarm" I would go for it.

In that case, I'd call the emergency number, but keep in mind I've never lived in an apartment, so I don't know how strict they are about it.

So, still no hot water. I tried washing my hair in the sink :cold: and then boiled some water to take a "bath" :cold: :cold: :cold: :cold: I still don't feel clean. It's just not the same as a hot shower.

I was going to say wait and call in the morning thinking you were calling a plumber and you don't want to pay the after hours price. Since you live in an apartment they have their own maintenance people so I would call.

I don't think it is an emergency--but it is a nuisance. Your apartment should have some phone number and they'll determine what to do. It may not get fixed as timely as you like though as I think plumbing (no water, can't flush toilet) and lack of heat/a/c at the corresponding times of years are more of an emergency.

Good luck!

I called and left a message, but I will be long gone to work by then. They say if it is an emergency, there is a different number to call. I thought I remember reading somewhere they no hot water was considered an "emergency" to them. Oh well, hopefully it will be fixed by tomorrow morning.

we have an hvac business. Some companies would consider it an emergency, some not. The cheaper companies usually won't. The call will get routed to the man on call. If he makes 60. per hour ot he'll go on the call. If he makes 22. not so likely.

No hot water is absolutely an emergency, it is in my complex. I have had to call the emergency number 3 times for hot water problems, and everytime they sent someone over within 15 minutes of my call.

Do you have a copy of your lease? Maintenance emergencies are listed in mine..... I think. Or maybe it was just in some paperwork they gave me when I moved in.

No hot water an emergency. No. Inconvenience and pain in the *** yes. Hope you get it back soon. At least you have electricity. BTW you can get clean in a cold shower. Not fun but doable. Been there and did that for 2 weeks in Aug of 1992 and for 3 days last week due to hurricane damage.

I didn't mean emergency in the true sense of the word. There are two numbers for our apartment complex; non-emergencies and emergencies. I ended up washing my hair in the sink and took a very quick, very cold "bath" to clean up, it just wasn't the same. Dh just called and said hot water is back on.
