Is my post in cyberspace? I need ideas for a state map project.

I think I have been a successful parent. Both of my kids did their own projects and reports in school. Both filled out their college applications without my input. Older child graduated and found a job without my help. Younger child landed a prestigious internship this year. They're both on their way to be independent and self supporting.

And by the time each turned 12 they had better internet skills than I did. And I'm pretty good with Google.

Well, maybe your mother didn't, but why on Earth would you assume that that means other Mom's didn't? Besides that, the arrival of the Internet and easier ways to do research & share information have changed what is expected of kids' projects these days. You can't really compare one generation to another in that regard. Teachers expect students to be using the Internet for projects. It's been this way for years.

Not looking for a debate here, although that seems to be all some people on these boards enjoy. I was honestly looking for some neat ideas my daughter could consider trying. Nothing more than that.... She did do and will continue to do all of the actual work herself. She is a very bright girl who will get a grade either way, she was just looking for a way to have some fun with it. Asking for advice and sharing opinions is not something I feel guilty about. That's ridiculous.

I help my kids too-they do the work though...but nothing wrong with sharing ideas...two things we have used for map projects...

For Rivers...blue yarn glued along the river makes it pop .....for mountains we have used brown playdoh-which dries out pretty quickly so shape it like the mountains and glue to your map...just make sure the paper will support the weight---poster board is best. Glitter glue if she needs to label the great lakes....
