Is my math off here?

Disney just announced the free quick dining plan for Jan 2012, when we are going to Disneyworld. I was quoted $910.02 for my family for the package. I did the math, which is discounted room rates (which I already have) and 3 day tickets, and I only come up with $640.84.

Am I missing something here? I know that there are small extra's included in the package price like $15 Planet Hollywood GC, luggage tags and a few other discounts, but it's likely we won't even use them so I didn't count them towards the total. And the dining plan is advertised as free so I wouldn't count that either.

I had always heard the package deals with free dining will not necessarily save you any money, their more a convenience. But that's a pretty big difference in price.

Thoughts?:confused3

I don't know where you are staying or for how long, but in my experience I have never found the DDP to be cheaper than what we pay OOP staying offsite and paying for meals. I have not checked staying onsite and doing DDP versus OOP but your figures do not surprise me. I believe you have to pay rack rate for the room to get DDP. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Remember, nothing is free. You will be paying for it somewhere.

It is my understanding that you cannot combine the room only discount and the free DDP, you might have to choose whichever one gives you the lowest price! Have fun!

Agreed. It is either the room discount or free dining but not both.

You have to figure out which is a better deal for your family. Often it depends in the resort level and make-up of your family i.e. kids vs adults, etc.

You have to pay rack rate for the room to get the free QSDP.

What you need to decide is can you eat for less than $640 if you pay OOP. Compare what you would really eat not what the stuff they give you is worth. Will you want that chocolate cake at every counter service meal?

Yep, rack rate for the room if you are getting free dining, and don't forget the taxes. If you go on the WDW website and go through the process of booking(without dining, since it is free), that should give you rack rates. Just make sure you uncheck travel insurance if you don't want it.

I managed to answer my own question, yes my math was off. I figured it out with only one park ticket instead of 2. So the total should be $888.92, which is much more in line with getting the free dining plan.

Your offsite example is comparing apples and oranges. Many people stay offsite and enjoy it. I'm not trying to discredit that, but I also don't think you can compare onsite and offsite strictly on a monetary basis.
