Is Mineral Makeup "Addicting"?

Thanks for the info Christine!

I finally gave in a went to a dermatologist recently. My skin is worse now at 33 than it was at 16. It is not bad but somewhat regular mini-breakouts so I try to stay away from having anything heavy on my face.

I might have to give in and try this stuff. Any recommendations on a basic foundation?

If you have a Bare Escentuals boutique near you, I'd suggest that you call them and make an appointment for a consultation (they call them 'make unders').

They'd be able to match you with a foundation and do your face! The first time I had one done- I didn't buy a thing, and received absolutely NO pressure to buy anything! (The lady on the stool next to me bought everything that was used on her face! AND, DH enjoyed a glass of champagne and truffles while I was being done.)

If not- check ULTA out. They'll do them there too, but as they don't specialize in the Bare Escentuals line, they might not do quite as good of a consult or application. (No flames please!)

I watched and learned more about it, and about 4 months later, I bought a small starter kit from QVC for about $25. It had a medium size foundation, a small mineral veil (a finishing powder) a small Warmth (bronzer/face color) and a brush.

It took another month to get up enough courage to start experimenting with it. I figured- what did I have to lose?

The more I played (practiced), the better I got at it- and DH is always looking me over to see what I've done. He even wants me to take a spare set to put in my desk at work- just in case I don't have time to do it at home before we leave!

Once you get a foundation color match, check out www.colorfulsprinkles.com. She does samples and you can get an idea of what you like without spending for a full size that you might not like. Her color swatches are great too!

Have fun!

ETA: I forgot to say that the consultation at either Bare Escentuals or ULTA is FREE !!!

I haven't tried mineral makeup yet but I am seriously thinking about it.

I have been using Almay line smoothing but they keep making the bottle smaller and the price higher. I am 30-something and STILL keep breaking out. It's getting old!

Will mineral makeup help? What is this website ya'll keep talking about?

Has anyone tried this yet? It looks interesting.

Then again I can't put eyeliner on to save my life.

I use it and  it!!!! I am terrible at putting eye liner on. It did take me a short time to get used to putting it on. I was putting it on too heavy. I learned how to use a light hand. When I occasionally don't use it, I feel like my eyes disappear. They say to use a drop of the liquid, but I don't use that much. I squeeze the bottle and get about half a drop and then touch this to the bottom of that 3 chambered plastic thing. It makes plenty.

Anyone else order today's special value on QVC???? I did!!!!! I'm just like a kid in a candy store when Bare Minerals is on :hyper: .

ok, I guess I'm the oddball.

I bought one of the starter kits back in November when somebody posted a discount code. I like the make-up well enough - but I can't keep that powder from flying all over my bathroom and I'm getting really sick of cleaning it up.

Hmmm...I don't have that problem at all, but I don't work out of the "lids." When I got my Sheer Cover kit, they suggested using a piece of paper to shake out your foundation/mineral veil on. I actually use pages from old magazines because they have that shiny finish. I put a little on the magazine page and dip my brush in. No spills and any excess goes back into the container. When I have tried to just put some in the lids, I do make a bit of a mess.

I hate spending money on makeup! But my face is getting kind of splotchy with age and I want to get something for when I start interviewing for jobs, and when I start work. I see that Neutrogena has come out with a mineral foundation. Have any of you tried that? What do you think of it?

This is the business I was referring to in my post--I wasn't sure if we could mention it by name. :)

I second and third and fourth Corina at Colorful Sprinkles. She has an awesome selection, and her service is second to none--I'm waiting on a new order from her as we speak! Colorful Sprinkles is great! :thumbsup2

I, too, am an addict. I've used it for 2 years and will never put anything else on my skin. I buy my BE products from QVC.

I work with the lid when I use the product. When I first began I always made a HUGE mess, but it got better when I got the hang of using the product :)

 I'm sorry if this has been asked already, but I'm interested in Bare Minerals. How long will it stay on? I apply my make up at 7:30am and don't have time to reapply during the day  Will it take me through the day?

Thanks,
Terri

What brush do you use?

Toby's Friend,

I used to get it all over the place, then a friend told me to only peel back the paper enough to expose the first set of holes. I work from the lid and theres no mess.

I've been reading all posts on here for months now that pertain to mineral makeup. Those of you that have used BM as well as the Sheer Cover, is it true that Sheer Cover gives a matt finish? I have *unbelievably oily* skin and definitely want a matt finish. I read that BM leaves you with a dewy, moist look. I definitely don't want that! So, would Sheer Cover be a good choice? :confused3 I'm ready for a switch from liquid to minerals *if* I can find a line that won't leave me "moist" looking. :crazy2:

I use both. I prefer Sheer Cover but it is not as easy to get as BE and I'm just not a "mail order" kind of gal. But I do find that Sheer Cover has a "drier" look. I think BE is very matte also, but Sheer Cover is just a tad bit more. I also find Sheer Cover to match my complexion better. I am a medium-to-pale brunette (blue eyes, reddish/pink skin). The BE foundations are a bit to "orangy" for me, although I have figured out how to work with them. The medium BE kit is too dark, but the medium Sheer Cover kit is just right.

Thanks Christine! Don't like the idea of mail ordering myself but may need to resort to that. Here's hoping SC has really white, white colors! I have the coloring of Snow White.

Subscribing to the thread, because I'm a dork and I'll never find it again otherwise.

I do have one question - I use Lancome now and I'm just starting to get those lovely fine lines. Lancome settles into them and makes them look worse. Will the mineral foundations do the same?

Okay, two questions - how many steps does this foundation process take to apply? I HATE spending a ton of time on my makeup.

If you are having a mess using minerals listen to CaptKangaroo. If you've peeled your label off, cover some of the holes with tape. I use a straight edge and an X-acto knife to cut the film away from the first line of holes, or just one hole for eyeshadow size jars. That way I don't have too much product on top and make a mess. If you want to travel, take 2 cotton cosmetic rounds (the type you use to remove makeup or nail polish) and put these on top of the sifter after you've tapped your minerals back into the container. You can also get the round cosmetic sponges that will perfectly fit the blush and foundation containers. These come in 2 sizes. I have to squish the edges into the container slightly, but these sponges keep the minerals from drifting over the top of the sifter during transport.

I'll share my favorite tip I've discovered. I take the spoons similar to those you would get ice cream samples at Baskin Robbins and add my drop of liquid (water, eyedrops) and then use the spoon bowl to mix my shadows/liners. I can hold the handle steady, then rinse and reuse--or toss the spoon.

I always peel the sticker sheet thing off all the holes. With the lid still on I very quickly turn the jar over and back. I work with what fell into the lid and don't put my brush into the part of the jar with the sifter. Working within the lid, I never have a mess. Bare Minerals is so super easy to apply. It is basically a no brainer. I think it is much easier than applying a liquid. Best thing is no line of demarcation at the jawline!

And for the poster with snow white skin, the #1 foundation is very, very light. I bet you it would be light enough--if not too light.

Generally, I use a 2.3 but have up to a 5. Uh, I am an addict who curbed her addiction today by not ordering the TSV on QVC!! I have quite a few glimmers etc and have them in a tackle box! I always store them upside down and work out of the lid with them! Makes it so easy!
