I'm hearing conflicting things about attraction
Photos being automatically transferred to magic bands. Is this true? Or do I still have to write the photo number down then head to the counter and have it added to my account? I spoke to a Disney cast member she sd I still have goto the counter however message boards are reporting pictures being a automatically downloaded to magic bands.

Just to be clear.
Nothing is ever downloaded TO a MagicBand.

What you are actually asking is if the ride photos are "activated" by the presence of your MB
and then are the photos connected to your MemoryMaker, mydisneyphotopass.disney.go.com and MyDisneyMagic account so that you save and view the photos.

(And, yes, they are.)
------------

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or photos or photo info, or FP+ info "put onto" a MagicBand.

The MagicBands just contain a unique serial number that is used
to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number)
to access the info in your MDE file.
Disney can also issue ADDITIONAL MB's to a guest and each
additional band can be used for the same purposes as the first band.
So, yes, there can be multiple MB's per person, and each of them can be used by that person.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

Why does this distinction matter?
Because there is so much fear about losing bands and,
in turn, losing all of a guest's information thought to be on the band.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.
The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed from your MDE account when needed.

If you purchase the Memory Maker package, the attraction photos are automatically linked to your MyDisneyPhotoPass.com account. You no longer need to claim them at the attractions photopass desk.

Actually works rather well. But you need to have a memory maker account associated with your magic band (or somebody in your group)
The ride(s) pick up the magic band and the photos show up in your memory maker account. If you don't have memory maker then you'd need to do the number.

As Robo pointed out, your magic band is just a serial number nothing is ever stored on it.

That's great! So long as I can bypass the counter MM sounds worth it to me. The line for Space Mountain alone took close to 30 minutes last yr to claim my Photopass picture and that was during EMH at 10pm.

I'm also reading that you should still write down your photo # just in case it isn't automatically added to your acct.

Thank you all for the information! I think it sounds like a great convenience.

I am not sure you actually need MM to have the photos be hooked onto your magic band. I just got back from WDW and didn't get the MM package and I received an email with a link to my photos through my MDE. Worked fine and I can see all the pictures that were taken. I can't save them or do anything with them except purchase them, at a very high price per picture, but at least they can be seen.

I never thought of it, but Disney does know which accounts are associated with the magic band so they have the info. Gives them another shot to get more money out of your pocket.

Guess people shouldn't get magic bands if they don't want the photos associated to them. ;)

Yes, all of the photos should be automatically associated with the account. I would make sure to get the number of the photo or at least the time/date that the photo was taken in case it doesn't link correctly. I had a couple (out of many rides) that I had to call about- on one it linked the photo of the ride car in front of mine. So, while the system works great most of the time, there are still some glitches.

What if I purchase Memory Maker ahead of time and I don't ride the ride, but somebody linked to me does....do I still get to download that ride photo or do I give them my magic and for the ride?

I'm confused. So if you have a magic band and have it linked to your DME account, how are the ride photos automatically sent to your Memory Maker account? You don't have to scan your band or card after you get off the ride?

You don't need to give them your Magic Band; they'll just use their own.

There must be a sensor on the ride, probably where the picture is taken.

By use of the battery powered long range transmitter that's inside of the MagicBand.

Yes, be sure to still write the numbers down. We just got back last week from our WDW trip. The only ride we routinely had problem with was Everest. I called the photo people and was informed they have a department dedicated solely to the rides. I knew the time and date of when we rode, so they're searching for us. They were helpful with a couple of other glitches (a lost character meet-n-greet photo & magic shots missing), so I'm hoping they'll fix this error as well. In the future, I'll write the # down just for back up.
