Is McCain "Milking" His POW Status?

No experience? No achievement?
1. Carter went to the Naval Academy just like McCain and served with distinction.

2. He was not suited for the presidency but what he had done since is worthy of everyone's respect and he has the Nobel prize to prove it.

Check your history before you spout off

LOL can you please tell me how Carter served with distinction??

Right, transparant, but that wasn't the question asked. The question was what did McCain do that was amazing besides be a POW. McCain did at least one amazing thing before being imprisoned/tortured/etc by the North Vietnamese.

:lmao: Please tell me you are kidding right? Each of those medals are EARNED. Might I suggest you look up every one of those medals and what it takes to earn them.

Yes, Dawn, he is. The fact that he's a POW is actually not pertinent to every single question asked of him, and he's been working it into a LOT of responses... like on late night talk shows.

Perhaps he wishes to emulate the campagain of the great John Kerry, swift boat captain and corageous war hero who was wounded by an enemy tree branch. Jeesh how can he possibly compare time served in a prison camp to the potential of getting Black Elm Disease! My oh my how I LOVED to listen to Mr. Kerry's fearless war stories during his campagain. My heart ached when I thought of the potential of his getting a splinter and the possibility of infection in that tropical climate! John McCain is such a copy cat. I mean did you see the video of his plane on fire and his escape? The photos were so grainy. Perhaps he did not think to hire a videographer as Mr Kerry did. What a loser.

Then again look at O'Bie he NEVER tells his war stories. HOw long did he serve and where he was imprisioned will forever remain a mystery. That is what we like about him. He is a silent hero we will never hear that he was scratched by an enemy tree branch!

He's using the "POW" line so much he's being mocked for it ~ it's become a joke because it's his excuse/answer for everything.

It makes him look foolish.

I'm sorry I don't believe that POW is foolish for sharing his stories with the public

"His 17 military awards and decorations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and Navy Commendation Medal, for actions before, during, and after his time as a POW."

He got out of the service as a captain. I think trying to get another pilot out of a burning plane is pretty darn amazing. That was before becoming a POW.

:lmao: Please tell me you are kidding right? Each of those medals are EARNED.

Who are you trying to fight here? Did you mix me up with someone else?

First of all - I'm fighting? :confused3 Whatever.

Second - you said this:

I answered with a list of medals that are earned by doing some pretty "amazing" things. I thought I answered the original question - "what did McCain do that was amazing besides be a POW".

I suggest you look up those medals and what it takes to be awarded them.

Stories that have been constantly re-told (by McCain himself) for 30+ years. We get it ~ he was a POW and had horrible, awful things done to him.

It's not a reason/excuse for what goes on today and he's using it that way. Like I said before, it makes him look foolish for not coming up with better answers.

Ok, transparant, whatever. You've downright ticked me off by spouting off about "not knowing" what it takes to earn those medals, seeing that you know MY MOTHER is a Navy VET, my BROTHER is an Active Duty Marine, my Father-in-law is retired Army, etc, etc. I have my freakin' GRANDFATHER's medals in my jewelry box not 6 feet away from me!!! And that's just SOME of my family that has served or IS serving at this moment.

WOW. DANG. And THIS subject was something you wanted to get so insulting about??? And yes, I seriously DO believe you need to give an apology for this insult.

Maybe foolish to you

I agree, It makes him look like he has nothing else. For his OWN SAKE, he needs to stop using it that way. When it pertains to the conversation at hand, nobody would say anything about it, but when used as an excuse as to why he doesn't know how many houses he owns, it becomes a meaningless punch line. He should be smart and experienced enough to see the difference.

You are right. It has become a meaningless punch line.

You know, I never served in the military so I would never dream to mock someone who volunteered to in a time of war. Your post is disgusting and says a whole lot more about your character than about anyone else.

I guess he can take it too far, but to date I have not found Senator McCain to be over-hyping his military service.

However, that may be my age speaking. I well remember the Vietnam war; the POW bracelets, the horror stories of the Hanoi Hilton, and of McCain coming back home. His courage in the face of literally unspeakable horrors amazes me to this day.

It was a life-changing experience for him, and it would be strange if he did not speak of it.

I still enjoy listening to other veterans speak of their war time experiences: Bob Dole and Senator H (I can't spell his name) of Hawaii, for two examples.

It does not mean that I will end up voting for Senator McCain. However, I will not hold his speaking out about his experiences against him.

You mean combat veterans like Sentors or former Senators Kerry, Kerrey, Cleland, Webb, hagel and Congressman Murphy?

I think his opposition should adopt your attitude and be happy and content with such an opinion, rather than complain and seem offended and/or threatened by his mention of it.:thumbsup2

No apology here. I did NOTHING that was insulting. If you believe I did - that you misinterpreted things - not my fault.
