Is Living w/ the Land at Epcot worth going to?

I'm curious about the Living w/ the Land ride. It sounds incredibly dry based on the synopsis given in the guidebook, yet most adults rate it as a 4 star attraction, plus it's a fastpass ride which tells me something about it must be good. We're wondering whether to ride or not to ride. Anyone want to share their two cents about it? Thanks!

I personally love this ride, I like going through the different areas and then seeing the green house.

I also personally love the ride. Believe it or not its one of my favorites.

My wife and I ride it every year. That being said Iwould not wait more than 15 or 20 minutes to do so. It is interesting and I guess it has become a tradition for us on our first night(we go to Garden grill for dinner). It is a nice relaxing ride and there are soem interesting things growing (Mickey pumpkins) and the fish farm is cool. Hope it helps.

IMHO, the ride is only as good as the narration. The last time we rode it, the narration was mostly on tape as opposed to the "boat" attendant talking the whole time which helped me a lot. Sometimes the attendants talk either too slow or too fast. It is an interesting topic for sure. But it can be a little dull for the kids. I like it, but I do not think it is worth standing in line for nor for a Fast Pass. If I am in the area and the line is relatively short, I do it. The rest of my crew think it is lame.

I road this ride twice while I was in EPCOT last week. Once alone and once with my husband. We love it!! The greenhouses are the best. Yes, it is educational, but fun too. Some of the things they are doing with plant growth is just amazing. I would say absolutely do it, but that is just my opinion.
Adults do score it high, but my kids really liked it back in 2006 too. And they were 10 and 11. I have never seen a major line, so you should not need a fast pass. I would say ride it while you are waiting on the Soarin fast pass that you WILL need to reach its time.

Here is the info from allears.net:

Living with the Land - a gentle 14-minute boat ride through unique indoor plant growing areas. An introduction shows tropic, desert and prairie biomes that existed before humans arrived. Your guide explains all about the four greenhouses and the aquaculture facility. Living with the Land Boat

The boat glides on into The Land’s experimental growing areas:

* The Tropics Greenhouse - crops such as rice, sugar cane, peanuts, cacao, and bananas are usually grown under the 60-foot dome. These crops can be found in Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America and the southern United States.
* The Aquacell - crops include fish, alligators, catfish, tilapia, sunshine bass and American eel.
* The Temperate Greenhouse - featuring the concepts and technologies of sustainable agriculture, including intercropping, integrated pest management and specialized irrigation systems that reduce waste and increase crop production.
* The Production Greenhouse - where tons of tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and other vegetables are grown for use in The Land’s Garden Grill Restaurant and other Epcot restaurants. Land scientists utilize growing systems that are kinder to the environment and improve productivity.
* The Creative House , showing imaginative ways to grow crops -- without soil, hanging in the air, even on a space station. USDA scientists currently are working at The Land to develop fruit with a longer shelf life.

It's nice and relaxing. I like this ride so much that after riding I signed up for the Behind the Seeds tour to look at the Green Houses and the fish tanks up close. That being said, it is probably not worth waiting more than a half hour for. It is best if you don't go around lunch time, as the Land Pavillion is crowded around lunch.

If you are into argriculture and gardening then you will enjoy this ride. DH and I never miss it.

It could be very dry for a person who is not into plants and fish.

We usually see it after eating lunch at the land. We never get a fass pass and the wait is usually from 5 to 15 minutes.

We really enjoyed it. What was surprising was that my 3 kids loved it! They were fascinated by the plants, especially ones that looked like Mickey :)

It's so moving and very relaxing. Honestly, we'll do this everytime we go back to Disney! HTH! :goodvibes

this actually helps me make my decision too....i was up in the air about whether i wanted to ride it or not....guess its a must do :thumbsup2

IMHO LWTL is one of those underrated attractions that adds fullness to WDW. It's not a headliner, but I find it interesting every time I do it. Others I'd put in that category are One Man's Dream and Flights of Wonder.

Am I missing something? I have been on this ride loads of times (love the greenhouses :lovestruc ), but I have never been on a boat with a "guide" or "attendant". Is this something new? The last time I was there was April 08. Or is this something old? I think the first time I rode it was about 3 years ago. :confused3

Before Soarin showed up, almost nobody rode LWTL. I always liked it and would always ride, but there was never a wait. Whoever got dragged along with me and I would just walk on. :) It is one ride I never tire of, but I don't think most people enjoy LWTL. Tons of them ride it now that Soarin is dumping them out and it happens to be there, though. I heard one guy say, "There goes 15 minutes of my life that I'll never get back."

They got rid of the personal guides about a year or two back. I think the re-vamp was in August of 2006. But I'm not 100% certain. I don't keep logs or anything. IMO, the ones who were good were much bettter than the stupid announcement thingie. The ones who sucked were worse, though.

I think this ride is pretty good. If u are tired of walking around, this is a good ride for u to rest. The bad apart it tho when u go through the greenhouse, it can get hot.

i agree- we do enjoy it, but i wouldn't wait long for it. We do try and always fit in, but we find a short line before we ride it. great to get out of the heat if you are there in summer too.

The reason Living with the Land has a FP, is because of the ever popular Soarin' right next door. I never wait more than 20 min for any ride, and this is no exception. This is, without a doubt, one of the most underated attractions in WDW though.

This is a good way to kill time while waiting for your Soarin' fastpass time. I wouldn't spend a lot of time waiting in line for it though. There are a few hidden mickey's along the way.

It's a nice edutainment ride, and fits perfectly with Epcot. And, yeah, if you can somehow schedule dinner at the Garden Grill for after you've ridden it, then it's a little extra magical. :thumbsup2

we enjoy this ride...it's relaxing, comfortable and mildly interesting. ::yes:: A nice break from hectic touring plans. Don't have any preference between taped/live announcer...it's not rocket science info they're giving you so doesn't make a whole lot of difference how the info is delivered.

That being said...I would not wait more than 10 minutes (rarely would need to anyway) and I would never waste a FastPass opportunity on this ride (since getting one here would prevent you from getting one elsewhere for an hour or two.) This ride is just not that busy, and if it happens to be busy while you're there, just try back later (I suspect Disney deliberately put a FastPass machine on this ride to give the impression that it needs to be scheduled into your day...as a way of helping with controlling crowds more in the vicinity of Soarin' and the food court. Not that it helps...it'll be a few years before Soarin' lines go down, if ever:lmao:)

I also personally love the ride. Believe it or not its one of my favorites.

I have to agree, it is one of my favorites. I don't know why, but when I think of Disney World I can hear the "swoosh" of the doors opening and closing as the boat passes through. My wife and I the other day asked each other our top 5 rides at WDW, it was number 4 on my list..:thumbsup2
