Is LeCellier over-rated ?

We like the soup and the pretzel bread, so usually we jut hit the stalls during the F&W and get our fix without the long wait, gloomy atmosphere and price.

We went Oct 2010 for lunch and I agree with the sodium overload with the potatoes. When my husband asked if he could get another serving, the server was less than gracious about it. But we can say we've been there, food was not bad. In planning for this October trip, I didn't bother with LeC ADR. It may just be one of those places you try and then try something different the next time. Lots of places to choose from and it's impossible to hit them all in one trip.

My DH and I were able to get in on our Honeymoon after many many attempts to get in. While we waited on the bench in much anticipation as my DH loves steak and the reviews made this place sound special and wonderfull, we watched a family of four walk up and ask if there was any availability, and were immediately given a seating. I went up to the CM and asked why we were waiting with a reservation if there was a walk up table available, and was just told we would be seated soon. 15 mins later we were seated at a two person table in a row of two person tables where I could have reached out and taken the bread sticks from our neighboors. I liked one of them, but didnt care for the other two types. The meal was ok, not great, not melt in your mouth, just ok. The service was a little slow and the cost was on the high side. I also didnt think the atmosphere was as lovely as everyone said. My opinion is save your money.

It's o.k. in my opinion. I think some of hype is that it "maximized" the ddp (as in it had high menu prices for a 1 credit TS restaurant - when it was a 1 credit place) it is a "meat and potatoes" place for all those "picky eaters" out there, and it was hard to get. There's a certain amount of cognitive dissonace going on I'm sure.

I just don't think the quality is all that for the price - Outback is comparable in my book - and they really cram you into that cellar so you're practically sharing tables with your neighbors.

It's not worth the aggrivation to me to get in there. But I do love the cheese soup, even if the cup is continually shrinking...

Dh and i went to LeCellier in 2006 and we were not impressed. I hate maple and it seemed like everything was maple something for dessert. The steak wasn't that great and i remember wondering who came up with the menu because it was pretty crappy.
We are going to disney this year and we will not be back.

besides i was kind of offended by the canadian area of epcot.

It's a decent place but no (real) steakhouse. People on the DIS praise the filet, which is easy to do as there should NEVER be a bad filet, anywhere ... But if you are truly a steak lover ... Know the difference between choice and prime. Understand marbling and the differences between cuts. Understand kobe. These types of things then LC is over rated.

Is it good? Absolutely. I always enjoyed eating lunch there (before the inexplicable popularity craze) but find it little more than a curiosity or a bother now. (We can always get the cheddar cheese soup at F&WF).

If you don't have access to any decent steakhouses, this would probably be the best steak you ever had. It's good, really good, but not the best I've ever had.

I agree about the salt, it's intense. I make sure to drink lots of water while I'm there.

I like the theming and those pretzel sticks are worth the wait.

It doesn't compare to steak at Craft Steak in Las Vegas. Or Sullivans in Seattle. That's awesome steak.

I'm a snob and a culinary school grad, so take it from where it comes. We were there last May and we pretty much just walked up and got a table. The food was uninspired and yes, HEAVILY, even shockingly over-seasoned. The service - this might be a New York thing, but it was obsequious. Service should never be servile for lack of a better term, but whatever. I don't know if I'd repeat and hopefully things have gotten better with the upgrade.

We ate at Le Cellier on are last trip for the first time, we read from trip reports that this place was amazing. Well I have to agree that this place is super over rated. There is nothing special about it and now it's 2 TC. I wouldn't return if it was still 1 TC.

I personally do not care for Le Cellier that much. The mushroom filet was an average cut of beef with what I would call an overload of salty Campbells Mushroom soup poured on it and sitting on a bed of Uncle Ben's white rice that they prefer to call risotto. Based on the hype I was expecting so much more. :confused3

I will admit I have not tried this place since going signature. But with that said, I did not like it before so I will definitely not go there during lunch. Perhaps if I'm paying OOP I will go and try one of the new entrees that are not beef; WDW has to many other places offering a much better steak than this place.

Even with my less than positive opinion of Le Cellier, I always say try it you may like it. Opinions are like backsides, we all have one. :)

I think it overrated also. The pretzle bread was the highlight of our meal and the service has been crappy every time, granted it is busy usually when we go but never the less no excuse. I really can't believe that they made this a signature resturant now. Let me tell you the Brown Derby puts this place to shame in both food quality and service in my opinion. So many people rave about it but I can't really see why, to me the ambiance is like eating in a dungeon as well. Just my $.02.....

we had 2 horrible experiences. not only was our food not good (with the exception of his soup) both times, but we thought our may 2010 server was bad..... our server in november 2010 was worse--the worst.... we left before dessert. i know you can get a filet at lunch for 1TS but it's not worth it to us, especially when you can go anywhere else in the showcase and get treated better.

Yes, it's overrated. That doesn't mean it isn't good - because it is good. It's not the greatest restaurant in the world, and it's not even the greatest restaurant at WDW. Guests like familiar food, and it's a really small restaurant, and that's what keeps it booked up.

Le Cellier has apparently been supplanted as the most popular restaurant at WDW by 'Ohana dinner before 8:30.

The pretzel sticks were nothing special in my opinion....the cheese soup was BLAH! I've had better at my local subway shop. The steak was fatty & tasteless. I honestly wouldnt go back, ever. Not unless every other restaurant was booked and i had no other choice that day. Lol :lmao:
This place is so overrated.

Thats YOUR opinion. We're all entitled to our own opinion. And my opinion is that it sucks. :lmao:

I'm glad you discovered the DIS; I now have someone on these boards who dislikes Le Cellier more than I do. I won't go as far as you do, but it's nice to have company. :lmao:

I only like the mushroom filet, cream cheese potatos and maple creme brule.. Other than that nothing I cant get anywhere else...

This will be our first yr not going but we will be trying the steak at Capt Grill and Calli Grill this yr..
