Is Le Cellier really that great?

Okay friends - is Le Cellier really that good? I mean good enough for me to call everyday to try and get a reservation for it? I have called endlessly for our upcoming trip in August and I can't get a reservation no matter what dates I give them. I even called at 7:00 am at my 90 day window and wasn't able to get it. :sad2:

If is so good, what is so good about it? (Aside from the ever so popular cheese soup - we are going in August and I doubt we'll want hot soup.) :)

Thanks!

Liz

I know I will be in the minority, but in one word (and IMHO) NO! It is probably the most over-rated restaurant on the planet.

Le Cellier is good. I have eaten there several times. However, I would not say it is spectacluar. I'm not sure what type of atmosphere you are looking for but you may want to try Yachtsman Steakhouse in the Yacht Club. It is close to Epcot and has great steaks.

I haven't eaten there myself, but I have wondered the same thing.

Can I ask if the bills wind up being among the priciest for 1 TS meals? I don't ask this to be flamed, but there are many threads here about "getting the most for your $" on the DDP and since it's only 1 TS (and Yachtsman is 2 TS), it just makes me wonder if part of its popularity is tied into the fact that it's a steakhouse and it only 'costs' 1 TS credit. It would be interesting to me to see the % of people eating there who aren't on the DDP. (I'm sure Disney has stats on that.)

I LOVE LE CELLIER!!! :goodvibes

but that being said...I would not go through the torture of calling everyday for it. There are a lot of great places to eat at WDW. Would I check randomly every couple of weeks...possibly but still probably not. Chalk it up to someplace you hope to try on your next visit hehehe.

It is just good-OK, not great.

The ADR demand should not be thought of as an indicator of quality. I see it more of a demand created by free dining and other dining plans, as I recall Le Cellier before the current plans being one of the TS restaurants with open tables most of the time.

Thanks for your opinoins. I have booked Boma for that night instead. I may still try a few more times before our trip. If I get lucky then I get lucky, if not then oh well. :thumbsup2

I think we have good ADRs anywho!

my family of 4 LOVED it, I planned my aunt and uncles meals for their trip last August, and their party of 9 all loved it too. To be honest, I didn't really care for the soup at all, after all they hype, it just wasn't what I expected, no parting of the clouds or angels singing or anything!:confused3 Ok, I just didn't care for it. BUT my Prime Rib was WONDERFUL!! I would go there again in a heartbeat

I am probably one of those in the minority... I think it is good, but I would say if you get it you get it - if you don't you don't.

I agree!!!!

We really liked it. My DH doesnt' eat steak but had a piece of my filet and loved it and said he wants to go back.

We will try to go back but if we don't we shall live. :goodvibes

I'm hoping to get to try it in Sept., I never even knew it existed until reading about it in the guidebooks...then I joined the dis board and found out it is crazy popular! Really hoping I can get in, but if I don't, I won't be too upset!

It's plenty good. I'd put it a notch above the chains - Lone Star, Longhorn, Logan's, etc. - but not on a par with a Ruth's Chris or Mortons. It's worth a try, but if the goal is simply steak, we had one at The Wave last week that was as good as any at Le Cellier. There are plenty of other spots that have a steak on the menu that I'd consider Le Cellier quality. I see you've got the HBD on your list ... it's been three or four years ago, but I had a REALLY good N.Y. strip there once.

General consensus is that Shula's and Yatchman's Steakhouse are where the bar is set for WDW steakhouses. You pay for that quality, too.

Le Cellier is okay. Not really good or great, but not bad either. (I thought it was a little salty a few years ago).

Like at all Disney restaurants, they pack em in. It's the restaurant equivalent of coach class airplane seating.

I enjoyed our meal there in Feb, but it was nothing to write home about, IMO. Good food, okay service and atmosphere. I would just try to get it next trip if I were you. I personally would be more stoked about Boma than LeCellier, anyway. Much more interesting!

Have a great time on your trip, and looks like you've got some great picks!

Not sure what "Great" means, but Le Cellier is a big step above most other restaurants and a must do for us. I'm sure if you there often enough (as with other restaurants), you'll find something wrong or not as good but for us, the service, ambience and food all add up to a very nice meal/experience.

Oh you can't go wrong with Boma!!! Just stick with that plan and save yourself the frustration!!! Boma is awesome!! :thumbsup2

I agree, Boma is an excellent choice (I'd take that over Le Cellier any time). I love the prime rib!

That said, I do like Le Cellier and I think it is a great "value" if you are on the DDP, maybe not so much if you are paying OOP. Definitely not worth calling every day to try and get an ADR. There are many other places that have excellent steaks.

My opinion:

Unless you're getting engaged or you're planning a special birthday or something and things have to be perfect, there is no restaurant on property that is worth the stress that people put themselves through to actually allow not getting an ADR to ruin their vacation.

If you bring stress into your life for days or weeks, then no, Le Cellier isn't worth it. Now if you enjoy the pretrip planning and the phone calls and stuff like that are a game and snagging a premo spot is almost fun and part of the build-up, Le Cellier is a pretty good restaurant by WDW standards. It all depends on how you're wired.
