Is June really THAT bad?

Someone help me out, PLEASE! We had planned on taking our oldest daughter out of school (she'll be in 3rd grade) in early October 2004 for a 9 night stay at WDW, but I'm really starting to re-think our decision. We're only into the second week of 2nd grade and I'm already seeing how much she's going to be missing by being gone from school for so long.

So here's my question: Is June really THAT bad? That's when we're thinking about changing our vacation to. Are the crowds and heat totally unbarable, and is the daily rain going to ruin our trip? If we change our plans, we'll be going the last full week of June.

Ok, all of you DIS'ers that were in WDW in June this year (or past years), please respond and let me know how your trips were.

I'm a total worry wart, so TIA for ALL the help you're willing to give!

NO!! It's not that bad. We have been there the past 2 Junes and are going again next year. The only time I would ever say "NO" to a trip to WDW is the week baetween Christmas and New Year's. What a nightmare. June and into July plae in comparision....

This has been a relatively mild summer, actually. Last year was miserable. But if you plan acordingly it should be fine. Try seeing attractions that could close due to weather early in the day. Take breaks at your resort or indoors in the middle of the day. Keep in mind that parades may get cancelled because of the rain. Drink plenty of water and wear strong sunscreen. I'm sure you will still have a wonderful time!

Planning is the key!!! We always go the last week in June. this year we went the first 2 weeks in July!!

USE EARLY ENTRY!!!! Get up early and take advantage of small crowds and less heat!!Then get back to the room for swim and nap midday. Then off again refreshed by 4!!

Rain has never been an issue for us. Just one day out of 12 this year were we poured on inthe parks(and that was at Universal!!)
Our timing seemed to be we were in the room for the BRIEF afternoon showers.

Try to go in early June. I was there this past year on the second week of june, crowds started to get heavier towards the end of the week. The first two weeks of June are much better than the last two.

I would have to agree that last year was miserable. We are from Iowa where we can crank out some humid days ourselves but the Children of the Corn melted for crying out loud June of '02. 100 degress F and 98%humidity is hotter than the sun. We did hit the parks first thing in the morning ( no EE's that trip due to the Character Caravan) but left the parks around 11 to go back to the resort for either 1. The cold AC in the room, 2. The Pool, or 3. Skipped the resort for BB or TL.. Then we went back to the parks around 4-5ish and stayed until close. We survived, and so will you.

We were there the end of June, and it definitely is doable. If you take an afternoon break, you will miss some of the longer showers and the larger crowds. Come prepared with ponchos, umbrellas, change of clothes and extra shoes at the hotel. When we did run into a shower, it was somewhat welcome because of the heat and it did reduce the crowd somewhat. We also took advantage of indoor shows, especially at MGM and Epcot, during the rain.

If you go early, with or without EE, that will help tremendously with the crowds and heat. Also things were more comfy during the evening hours, but some parks could be a little crowded.

If you stay at a resort close to the parks that helps with the afternoon break and getting to the parks. We stayed at the Dolphin on a discounted rate. We also had great bus service to MK/AK.

Just keep in mind you will get to ride TWICE as many times during a slower time of year, so you are getting way more for your money. We went to Disneyland in June one year.........NEVER AGAIN. Many rides had 2 hour lines. It took us 3 days to see the magic kingdom. We went again in september a few years later. What a difference! We were able to see it all and ride several times on our favorites in just one day.

We were there June 11-16 this year. The weather wasn't a problem, and the crowds were moderate but not suffocating. However, there were lots of reports from people on-site that the crowds swelled big time right after we left. I'd say the ealier in June, the better.

My DS and I were at WDW the third week of June 2002 and the week of June 22 this year.

Last year was very wet but we still accomplished everything we wanted to do. Rain is hit or miss and normally you get showers and thunderstorms moving through and then it clears up. Last year though we had more than just showers. Again, it did not hold us up or change our plans.
This June it was raining the Sunday we arrived. It stopped during the day and except for a little drizzle Monday morning the weather that week was the most beautiful summer weather I have ever experienced in Florida. The humidity was unusually low and there was a beautiful breeze every day. It started to get more Florida like by the end of the week.
As a number of previous posters said, get to whatever park you want to start the day in EARLY. Use Fast Passes and then take afternoon breaks at the hotel.

This is what we have done during our past two June visits and we had a GREAT time! We managed to ride TOT 13 times during our stay. Tip....Sunday evening the Studios got realy quiet and we had almost no wait! I imagine it is like that most nights towards closing.

We've always gone in August and did fine. Like people have mentioned, use EE for less lines and cooler weather, get out of the park around noonish or so, take that cool afternoon break, and go back for a nice dinner and evening shows around 4 or 5. We really enjoy taking advantage of our beautiful resort in the afternoon, plus getting in lots of rides early in the day.

We're going in early December for the first time this year and then will have something to compare it to, but since we are again taking children with us the next time, we've planned for July. Of course my feeling is that you never REALLY know, even in the off season I've heard people say how awful the crowds were, and in the summer people say how much they got done. So I guess no matter when you go I think the best advice is to "plan" and then just adjust and have a nice time when you're there.

One more thing, that someone mentioned, that is a good point is to be there over the week-end. We have often been there on Sunday and it was really allot less crowded during the summer. I think on Saturday and Sunday people are coming and going on their vacations, which does make a difference in the parks. Not Disneyquest, Pleasure Island or the Water Parks I've heard because local people go there in the summers too. But the parks themselves seemed to be less crowded. I don't think the local people must go to the parks much at that time either.

IMHO, you can't directly compare WDW crowds to DL crowds. There are other factors involved that can make DL crowds larger than WDW. I have been to both parks and I think crowds are much better, much more manageable at WDW. Things just seem to flow better IMO.

We were there from June 14-27 this year.

When we first got there the crowds were not too bad. But as the second week went on I could feel the crowds starting to swell.
The rain was hit & miss, there was probably about 3 days where it rained most of the day, but we still had a great time


If you could I would go in early June. We are planning a trip next June but we are heading there June 4th-15th

We were just there June 14-21. We always go around then for my cousins birthday. It rains a lot, but I just love it. When it's nice, it's NICE. Crowds are fine. Our longest wait was 15 mins..and that was to get our picture with Chewbacca at MGM.

The parks are open longer in the summer, so you will have no problem seeing all the attractions. It WILL be hot and humid. Take afternoon breaks and head back out later in the evening.
