Is joining AAA worth it???

Used to have triple A until they got a little pricey, now I have roadside assistance through ford, so I guess it depends on if you need the roadside assistance first and foremost. Any other benefit that can be derived (like travel discounts) is just a bonus perk. Its not like there arent numerous discounts out there besides AAA. I wouldnt join with just that in mind.

I'm not sure if AAA still does this but the last time we went to Disneyland (2004), if you stayed at one of the Disney properties and booked thru AAA you received the ultimate fastpass (can't remember what it was called). You could have multiple fastpasses at the same time but not mutiples for one attraction. Kind of a nice perk. I wish they did something similar at Disneyworld.

I finally decided to join AAA yesterday. I paid $59....$48 for the year and $11 enrollment fee. Well, I emailed my DU agent the AAA number...she emailed me back and told me I had just saved $63 on my POP reservation in September! It paid for itself in one day...how great is that!

Make sure you look at the other discounts that you can get for being an AAA member. There are some online shopping discounts and some restaurant discounts. (10% at Steak and Ale, Joes Crab Shack, Hard Rock Cafe and a few more )

I guess my question is kinds the same as the above posters. If I already have a reservation thru Disney can I call and get them to apply the AAA discount once I purchase AAA??:confused3

If you have room only (and the AAA discount is available for your resort room category and dates) then yes you can call Disney and have them change you to that discount. If its a package you would have to call AAA travel and book through them. So you would have to cancel your reservation through Disney.

We use AAA for every Disney trip, first off our TA is fantastic and we've had flawless trips each and every time. While at WL this past Dec. we booked a bounce back promo. through Disney res. center, what a nightmare, the cm had no idea what she was doing, when we got home and contacted our AAA TA to add the package on to the existing res., she told us it was all screwed up. It took her an hour on the phone with Disney to straighten it out. In addition to Disney trips, having AAA on the road has come in handy many, many times for me. A few years ago I was living with my cousin in the Bay area, Thanksgiving Day I locked my keys in the car with no spare, I called AAA and within an hour someone was at the house and got my car open, NO CHARGE. Yes, AAA is well worth it.

Thank you everyone for your input. I talked it over with dh and he agreed- we're joining!!:thumbsup2

We have booked directly with Disney for our last few vacations. It has saved us alot of money. We are saving a little over $90 a night for Poly LVC. We will not be adding the dining this trip but have done it in the past without a problem. We booked the rooms first then went back and added tickets/dining. This was way cheaper than booking through AAA travel agent.

I always have AAA. Not only for the car stuff, but for booking as well. I have only used AAA twice for trips in the past, but we got the same TA from 2001 (honeymoon), and the same person last year 2007! Dee is awesome! We saved a ton, but not only that the TA can make changes etc for you. All I did was email her our Free Dining Code and within a couple hours she replied saying that she had added it and I saved $$$!!!

Just remember if you get your car towed ONCE you make your money back. Our AAA is a bit more pricey but still....for a few dollars a month it is well worth it.

Plus my wife tends to "run out of gas" , and doesn't have much in the skill of "changing tires" etc...so I'm always happy to have AAA for us.

Okay, I thought AAA was car insurance. Am I mistaken???

They do offer car insurance and home owners insurance now...I just insured through them and increased my limits and coverage by quite a bit...and am saving around $240 a year!!!! :yay:

Agree, but it was my understanding (someone please correct me if I am wrong), that there may be "limited availability" for the discount...so, if you wait until the discounted rooms in your category for the dates you need are sold out, you would not be able to add the discount. Moral would be to add, but do it as early as you can.

Beyond that, I too, have found plenty of ways to save with membership that at least pay for it each year. Most recently, a discount for satellite TV service was added - even for established customers (saved $100, did have to extend contract but was not planning to change service anyway). I can *almost* always find a AAA discount for the hotel chain I prefer, and those nightly savings can really add up. Will save $70 on our Disney trip this summer (unless I am graced by a magical code :wizard: ). I have not needed the road assistance yet, but I do feel better knowing it is available.
