Is jiko worth the money?

Jiko is the only meal we had that we thought was worth the price Disney charges for it. (And yes, we ate at Narcoossee's, which we liked, but not as much as the price suggests.)

Personally I think if that you're going to go order a steak you should have gone to a steakhouse instead, and that if you're going to go to an upscale African-fusion restaurant, you should order African food, but most people around here disagree with me.

but for the price.. I'll take V&As every time.. and Jiko was only slightly less expensive.
"Only slightly less expensive"? The full meal for both of us, with appetizers, entrées, desserts, after-dinner tea, and wine, came to $160, I think. That's about what V&A charges for *one* person.

If you asked me before Nov 09 I would have said yes, we loved our Oct 08 meal there and could not wait to get back but we were very disappointed in the service and the entrees the last time we went. The appies and desserts were great but we had MUCH better meals at Flying Fish, Cali Grill and Citricos (which was to die for!)

Jiko > Cali Grill

Cali is nice - once - for the experience and while the food is good it certainly isn't the best on property by any means and is noisy and crowded and not a romantic place at all. If Cali Grill were not at the top of the Contemporary with a view of the MK it would not be a very popular place at all, IMHO.

Stick the Cali Grill on ground level of the Contemp and it might even go the way of the Concourse Steak House...

Jiko, on the other hand... we would almost be willing to drive the 2.5 hours down just to have dinner without going to the parks. :)

That's just about a perfect description.

Cal. Grill is the in the top two overrated resturants at Disney.
IMHO

While I don't want to say Jiko is underated or a good secret it's definately not as hyped as it should be.

JIko's was only about $80 less than what we paid for V&A.

I'm trying to finalize restaurants for our march trip. This meal would be paid for out of pocket. Is jiko worth it? How is the atmosphere? Part of me thinks if we're going to pay so much we might as well go to Cali grill or narcoosees or hoop de doo.

But the food looks great I just want to make sure it's worth going out of our way.

Jiko's is great. I would give it a try. For an overall dining experiance we rank Jiko only behind Shula's and Il Mulino's.

I thought the food was amazing, but the staff was horrible.

Yes!! I am not overly impressed by the appy's at Jiko, (taste of Africa, flatbreads) but everything else is fantastic(I am in the minority in my opinion of the appy's, I think)! The first time we had the filet and mac and I liked it. The second visit I ordered the short ribs and was blown away... The desserts are top-notch, as well.

That's a shame. The service we received at Jiko was the best we've received anywhere ever at any restaurant in any city. In fact, it was so great we now refer to it when having a bad experience; DW will just say, "I miss Ron." (Ron was our server. Fantastic. Ask for him if he's still there and available.)
