Is it wrong to put trash in your neighbor's trash can?

You can only judge one another by how you would like to be treated yourself. It's the only moral compass we have.

I think Luke 6:37 would help clarify. Then again it could fly in my face. I'm not the most rehearsed in the Biblical Teachings.
That's very fair.

I want to be treated in a way where a neighbor would ask me first before putting their trash in my trash can and 99.9% I wouldn't have an issue now that is because we don't use up a ton of trash.

I don't want to be treated where someone would use my trash can without my permission.

In turn I wouldn't do this to any of my neighbors without asking first.

Except that your neighbor is under no obligation to follow biblical teachings. They are entitled to their own opinion.

It's different when you have several kids. It's also different when you've lived somewhere a while and decide to start sorting through 25+ years of stuff in your attic. You value every bit of trash can space. Every now and then we have to hold back trash for the next week.

I think somewhere along the lines we have crossed lines severely.

When I deposited my trash, there was very, very little of it. It was properly sealed. It was "produced" in a remote location, far from a communal or personal bin. My father was with us - God knows why - and he's sensitive to these aromas. As I made a judgement call, based on my religious teachings. I used a remote household's bin. It took up zero room. It was not going to leak. There was no way the household would notice or have any issue with it - unless they were particularly mean. I am not in the practice of depositing large amounts of rubbish in nearby bins when mine are so readily available.

Completely agree which is why I said now (meaning at this present moment) we wouldn't have as much of an issue.

We're really good here at recycling (the city as a whole too) so that's usually twice as full as trash (though that's also because the recycling is picked up every other week rather than every week). The next door neighbor has 3 kids and they are constantly bursting at the seams for their trash can plus there are times where he puts an extra bag or two next to the trash cans (which for us there's no additional charge for that) and his recycling is the same bursting at the seams type situation. There's never any room in his trash can basically. Most of our trash consists of cat litter bags :crazy2: .

Wait let me get this straight, your dog pooped and you didn't want to stink up your car so you threw your dog's poop in someone elses can without asking because of your religious teachings? And if they had a problem with it the would be considered mean?
That is the craziest line of thinking I have ever heard.
Sorry Domo, you are the rude one in this scenerio. Be responsible for your dog, don't use other people's stuff without permission and for goodness sake don't justify it by using religion. Own your rudeness.

Shrugs.

I saved my dad from an asthma attack, and I am rude.

As I said, I go by my religion too, strongly.

But we'll probably never see eye - eye. Not a bad thing sometimes.

Peace.

So I am curious. Those that this would bother so much, would you know? Do you watch your cans? And if someone put a little bag in your can what would you do?

Yes I would know, I often put garbage out in the morning before the pick-up so I would notice a bag on top that I did not put in there.
If I knew who did it then I'd take their garbage bag out and put on their property.
If it became an issue and I noticed it often I'd ask my neighbor check his camera for me and confront the person.

:lmao:so now it was to save your dad from an asthma attack. Sure, sure it was.

More shrugs.

I don't have to persuade you as to my father's condition. He reckons it's from his years as a smoker. Not cool to insult him by dismissing his condition. Not cool at all.

Same here. My son takes out the cans Sunday nights and often on Monday I have a couple more bags that need to go so I take them out. When I lift the lid I would notice if someone else had added theirs.

In fact, I'd like to add that I am affronted to hear your slander. Usually there is a bin on this walk, so my dad can come along for the fresh air. This time, some louts (I presume) had done away with it. So we had the choice - use a nearby private bin or put my dad through distress.

I choose my dad.

So get a life and stop preaching. You have no idea how much you have hurt me.

I really don't see what the issue is. I can put out as many cans and bags as I want and they will get picked up. There isn't a limit and I don't get billed per ounce or container or anything. If someone's dog poops in my yard and they clean it up and put it in my garbage (which will have all of my dog's poop in it already anyway) I'm just glad they cleaned it up.

I'm not wound so tightly that this kind of thing would register on my radar.

That must be nice. We have both a size and a weight limit, along with a recycling requirement. We aren’t allowed to throw away glass. That requires its own bin. If our lids aren’t on tightly that’s another way to get fined.

I guess we all have little things that bother us but I cannot imagine making an issue of one little store bag of trash or a bag of dog poop. I mean seriously of all the things another person can do to get miffed about this one just really takes the cake.

If someone was half filling your can, ok that would be a problem. But one little bag and a bag of poop?

Nobody has trash cans around me. We put out garbage bags the morning of garbage pick up which is every two weeks. So unless they opened up my garbage bag to put in their smaller garbage bag, I'd notice.

Its not about the bag of poop it is about respecting your neighbor's things and yes I have a problem with people who can't manage to do that.
I have a dog, I carry her poop around with me when I take her out, I dispose of it when I get back to my own home. I expect other dog owners to do the same.
I do not put individual poop bags in my large can (that I pay for) so yeah I don't want rude neighbors to stick their dog's poop bag in my can.
Would I go banging down someone's door because of it, no. But yes if someone is going to keep doing it you bet I would confront them.
You see it as a bag of poop, I see it as entitled neighbors who have no respect for other people's property.

Actually I see it as putting way too much thought into one tiny bag or one store size bag of trash.

We had 2 months in the spring where our can disappeared on trash day before we got home. Think a neighbor who was moving nicked it from us to fill up with moving garbage, as I saw 2 full cans in a driveway down the street.

It took 2 months and several phone calls for the county/company to bring us another.

It was interesting figuring out what to do with our garbage during that time. If it wasn't too stinky, I would bring it to the dumpster at work in my van. Other times, dh would add it to the widowed neighbor's can by the street the night before trash day. Other times, I would deposit it in a neighbor's bin on the way to work.

Fortunately, we recycle more than have for garbage.

But what a pain in the backside.
