Is it wrong to "out" the trolls?

If the person is really a troll, then I think other posters have a right to know. IMO, the thread that vanished should have stayed available just so everyone could see they were being scammed.
ITA ::yes::

The old standby "Don't feed the trolls" really applies when someone posts something insipid and begging for attention...like about something that everyone should do, but the troll thinks it should earn them pats on the back.

(btw, the good deed in question: if any of my employees ever not turned in property that didn't belong to them, they'd be handed walking papers)

Not feeding the troll's need for attention sometimes falls by the wayside, however. 'Baiting the troll' wins every once in a while.

Don't out me...I will try not to be a troll any more....Except when I am in the Norway Pavillion... :lmao:

You do realize, when you're a troll in the Norway pavillion, people always feel the urge to put their fingers up your nose. Downside of THAT job, IMO

Aw, you little pot stirrer, you. :stir: I'm pretty sure you're not a troll but you're kind of stepping into iffy territory there, little missy.

I think that maybe when he started posting around on different boards, he had a desire to discuss his Vegan philosophies.

But I don't buy that the whole thing was a way to appear non-threatening so people would consider his opinions. I think he enjoyed the attention that impersonating a Special Needs person garnered him and I find that sick. I think he also enjoyed the way certain DISers would jump all over anybody who dared to post that they thought he was acting really odd or that they thought he was a fake.

So no, given the lecturing and moral superiority posturing that some of these people were subjected to, I don't think it was wrong to spend some time Googling his username to find out his internet history and sharing it with the general DIS population. It isn't like somebody posted a stakeout outside of his private home.

Honestly, I'm a little relieved to find out that he probably is just a Troll because my "little bell" was screaming Pervert. I was feeling sorry for the girls inside those Suzy and Perla costumes.

Tonight, I will be eating a big steak and drinking a huge glass of milk straight from the local Dairy Farm in FlowerChild's honor.

When there is a troll
An outing you must do quickly
Google him away

This is true, but if you start asking pointed questions or casting some suspicion, you can pretty much tell which is a troll and which is not.

Not one bit true. All you've proven is that people get a great deal of joy from stalking and harrassing someone they THINK is a troll.

Have NONE of you ever met someone different than yourselves? How incredibly ignorant of you all to believe that asking pointed questions or casting suspicion does anything but prove what jerks YOU are.

For what it's worth, the troll hunters used to grill me too, asking me lots of pointed questions and the troll hunters STILL try to cast me in a bad light, "casting suspicion" if you will...........

well I am and never have been a troll.

I don't however, like to see people ganged up on. I don't find it cute, funny, witty or enjoyable. I don't like being hated because I chose to stand up for myself and talk BACK to the creepy people.

Oh man!! DD and I are studying Haiku right now in language arts. I am not going to be able to keep a straight face after this!

I think it is fine to out the trolls. I also think it is fine to out those who we know to not be trolls but whose stories do not add up. I think it is crappy to lie to people to play on their sympathies and I don't appreciate it when I fall for it. I'd rather know the truth.

Wow - I cant even tell you how *proud* I am of your post - honestly. :woohoo:

Ive been a Disney Message Board'r for 10 looooong years now, and youre right. If you dont go along with the giggling of ganging up, odds are youre marked as a troll - Ive gotten it before too. And like you - after 10 years, I still sometimes wonder "Gee, I wonder why no one likes me?" (on boards - in real life? Please! Im a gem! If you dont want me, you wanna BE me! ) And I still think it's because I dont follow.... or Im a big nimrod, who knows? :smokin:

Youre right - and nice post. Seriously. :thumbsup2 Dont know how long it's gonna last though. ;)

I just Googled myself, and I'd like everyone to know I do NOT post on the Harrison Ford Forum. I'm also not katerkat on eBay. And I don't know German.

TF ponders trying to come up with a pointed Troll-Outing Question cleverly designed to fool KaterKat into revealing herself.. (not that way!)

hmmph. Is that kid really yours? The shadow in that pic looks a little funky to me. How do we know you didn't really just photoshop some random cute looking infant into that setting?????

I think it is strange that some people have more of a problem with people outing a troll/liar than the actual person who is lying/trolling.

That's why I don't get :confused3. You can make up an illness and have everyone feel bad for you, and people will still defend you against the "meanie" who proved you made it up!

There seem to be a lot of attention *****s around lately. I'm sick of falling for these mouse loving, disney banning, heart attack stories :badpc:

I'm not good at Photoshop - I actually steal the baby pics from a friend of mine. ;)

:thumbsup2 ITA!

And to she who said "Burn the Witch" I need to get $45 for a new keyboard. You made me spit soda out all over mine! Can I get that as pay pal or a cashiers money order? Amscot has them for free... just a helpful hint! :smooth:

Sometimes I wonder about these so called "Trolls", what if they are lonely, depressed people who really just NEED attention ? what will it do to them to be "outed" by what may be their only form of human compassion ? just some food for thought.....
