Is It Wrong That We Get Most Excited About the Food!?! W/ PICS COMPLETED!!!

My first plate:
HPIM2180.jpg

I'll start with the strawberries and cream. OH.MY.GOD. Ohmigod. These were amazing!!! Now, we've all had strawberries and cream, I'm sure. But this. This was out of this world. The strawberries were big and fresh and juicy, but the whipped cream was fresh and home made. VERY thick and only slightly sweet - none of this runny, melts in three seconds, stuff from a can. I made DH try a bite and even he said they were amazing. The strawberries and cream alone are enough to make me book this breakfast again. Now that I think about it... maybe I will for the October trip.

Moving on, the grapes on the plate were equally as fresh as the strawberries. Then we have a biscuit with sausage gravy, which was so good! It's some of the best I've ever had (right up there with Whispering Canyon) - the biscuit was fluffy and the gravy was nice and creamy. Delish! Then we have Pooh's Puffed French Toast. Now, I have heard about it on these boards so I knew I had to try some. It was good, but very sweet. Lots and lots of sugar on the outside, cinnamon swirled on the inside. I could only eat one piece!

Here is DH's first plate:
HPIM2181.jpg

HPIM2182.jpg

Yes, his first plate is actually TWO plates. He is much, much better at the 'all you can eat' deal than I am. First he has a croissant, which he said was 'good'. Then the puffed french toast and two slices of the breakfast pizza. Now, I must tell you about this breakfast pizza. Again - OH.MY.GOD. This was the second best part of the meal! It's regular pizza dough with eggs and cheese, but it was SO cheesy and SO creamy. I don't know what they do to it, but my God was it amazing. DH loved it just as much as I did, and in fact he is now dying to make it at home. He talks about it every morning wishing he had some to eat right that second. So if anyone knows where to find this recipe, please let me know! Or if you're heading down to the World soon, can you pretty please ask for the recipe? I didn't even think to!

Okay, moving on to his second 'first plate' we have the biscuit with sausage gravy, which he loved. A hard boiled egg and two types of cheese, which he couldn't remember what kind. He also didn't comment on either of these, but I'd imagine the egg was pretty much standard. He ate the egg and the cheese, so it must've been good. Next are scrambled eggs which he said were good, not on the runny side and not stiff, either. Then he has sausage and bacon which he liked ("not bad, normal" :confused3 ), but the bacon was way too floppy and rubbery for me - I like mine falling apart crispy! Then he has potatoes, which he mushed into the corned beef and hash. He said he liked it. (Seriously, he is not cut out to be a reviewer!)

Now for my second plate:
HPIM2183.jpg

Yeah, that's it. Even though my first plate was so scarce, this was all I had room for! This is the 'famous' breakfast lasagna. I'm sorry to report, I did not like it! No flames, please!!! It's served warm, and is a layer of bread pudding (I think) and warm blue berries (sorry, but blue berries should not be served warm!) with a layer of vanilla pudding over that, topped with a layer of carmelized bananas. I literally had one bite and that was it. I also had a banana which I gobbled down, and that too was as fresh as the other fruit.

DH's second plate:
HPIM2184.jpg

Two more slices of the breakfast pizza, which I stole! :thumbsup2 Another piece of the puffed french toast, a few glazed Munchkins (he only had one of those, but I think that's 'cause he was more interested in the other stuff on his plate), and a chocolate croissant which he devoured in five seconds flat and declared "GOOD!".

The total for 2 adults, after the DDE discount and adding tax and gratuity was $47.46. Yes, a bit pricey for breakfast, but don't forget that is including the 'holiday pricing' increase (really, a bit insane, isn't it?) and I can say it was definitely worth it!

Ahhh, the strawberries and the bananas . . . . All of the CP's fruit is quite lovely - fresh and unsullied by those nasty preservatives !

Can't speak to the biscuits and gravy (ewww) , but my husband says that they're definitely worth a go !

I agree that the puffed french toast is a bit too sweet - two bites (especially when combined with the sweet fruit) and I'm done in !

Have not tried the breakfast pizza, but will definitely be doing so in September . . .

I also prefer my bacon crispy - have you ever had crispy bacon that "melted" in your mouth ? Oh my . . . . . . . .

No flames from me on the breakfast lasagna - I can't bear to even look at it, never mind putting it on my plate ! But hey, that's more for those that love it !

Loving your review !

I'm really enjoying your reviews, thank you.

I loved CP for breakfast last December so we are repeating it!! I have to say I have a huge sweet tooth and that breakfast lasagne was amazing. Really enjoyed the puffed French toast too. :lmao:

Thank you! Next is the Plaza Restaurant for lunch... which I'll get to either later tonight or tomorrow morning. And lucky you going in two days! My trip feels like it was ages ago, and it's only been a week! LOL Have a great time!

we don't leave until Sunday - 4 more days, but I'm NOT touching the countdown for fear of losing it!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

All these years (twice sometimes 3 times a year) and I've never been to Plaza restaurant!:confused3

Oh, and we are taking the laptop, so I'll be able to continue your reviews! Three days at Universal, 4 days at
AKV and 5 days at BWV - aren't we lucky!

Can't wait for the Plaza review. We're trying it for the first time next trip.:thumbsup2

Ok so now I am really really really missing CP breakfast and want to try and work it into our Oct plans....but where the heck am I going to put it? :goodvibes

That breakfast pizza is so yummy!! But the lasagna. . .I agree with you, I didn't like it at all!! When we went the waitress told me it had "a little bit of everything" including ground up pieces of cereal!!

I love Crystal Palace too, I must eat breakfast there every trip. I can't wait to hear about Narcoossee's.

I'm signing on. :woohoo:

I tried my hardest to find that pizza recipe for you, but couldn't! I could find the lasagna's though, if you want that! :rotfl:

Here is the one from Chef Mickey's. I don't know if it's the same or not.

Breakfast Pizza
from Chef Mickey's, Contemporary Resort

1 12" Boboli
2 large eggs
1/2 cup coarsely shredded/grated mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup coarsely shredded/grated Provolone cheese
1 cup coarsely shredded/grated Cheddar cheese
1/4 cup heavy cream
salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place Boboli on baking sheet. In a medium bowl blend the cheeses together. In a small bowl, beat the eggs, heavy cream, salt and pepper. Mix well and add to cheese mixture. Immediately (to avoid clumping), pour mixture onto the pizza shell. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese mixture is set and is beginning to brown. Cut into pizza wedges.

Anyone who goes to Disney for the food is my kind of person. Your pictures are lovely and I'm looking forward to the rest of the reviews.

The Crystal Palace Breakfast Pizza has been on the Disney Recipe Request list for a long time: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1777635 (post #5). If anyone is going to WDW and can get this recipe (or any of the others currently on the request list) it would be greatly appreciated. it would be fabulous if we could get some new recipes this summer from people going to the parks.
The link to the DISNEy recipe exchange is: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1575103 and there is another Breakfast Pizza recipe from Boma and it has lots of cheese.

Yum! Crystal Palace looks delicious!! Especially the Puffed French Toast and the breakfast pizza. We have a breakfast ADR there in January, and I can't wait!

What's a munchkin!? I feel like I should know what it is, but I really don't. Whatever they are, we sure don't have them in Australia!! :confused3

It's a little donut, about the size of a golf ball.

I agree with you about the bacon. I cook mine to the point that it will almost crumble on its own. My husband laughs at me. I actually cook it on the George Foreman grill which does a great job of crisping it.

But I must disagree with the warm blueberries. Those can be quite yummy. Although I too thought the breakfast lasagna was a bit too sweet. I like blueberries cold, but warmed with fresh homemade whip cream (which I also make myself and I suspect you would LOVE) it is quite YUMMY!
Oooh... I never thought to make it on the George Foreman. I'm going to have to try that - thanks for the tip! And homemade whipped cream? Sign me up! But I may have to leave the warm blueberries... :rotfl2:

This trip report is making me hungry! Great pictures too! Makes me wish I had made a breakfast ADR. I don't think DBF can get up that early!:) Can't wait to hear more, more, more!
Thank you! Tell your DBF that for food *this* good it's definitely worth getting up early!

Great so far keep em' coming.
Thanks!

I know exactly what you mean about crispy bacon that melts in your mouth! I can almost taste it right now...

I'm really enjoying your reviews, thank you.

Glad you're enjoying the reviews! The puffed french toast was definitely good, but SO sweet. I'm ready to go back!

Aaahhh... a nice, long trip! Ours in October will be that way and I can't wait! This trip was our first time ever at the Plaza and it all happened because of a milk shake. You'll see!

Can't wait for the Plaza review. We're trying it for the first time next trip.:thumbsup2
You will definitely not be disappointed in it!

Ok so now I am really really really missing CP breakfast and want to try and work it into our Oct plans....but where the heck am I going to put it? :goodvibes
LOL Isn't that always the dilemma. I want to move my ADR's around until the day before the trip because I'll read this board and see reviews of dozens of restaurants and want to change them all!

Love the food porn so far!! :thumbsup2

Can't wait for your Plaza review :)
Thank you for reading, it's coming up next!

That breakfast pizza is so yummy!! But the lasagna. . .I agree with you, I didn't like it at all!! When we went the waitress told me it had "a little bit of everything" including ground up pieces of cereal!!
Okay, EEW. You are not allowed to tell me these things. he he he

I love Crystal Palace too, I must eat breakfast there every trip. I can't wait to hear about Narcoossee's.
CP is now a 'must do' for us, too! Along with Kona breakfast. I have a feeling the actual 'must do' list for DH and I is almost a mile long - we just love food!

subbing for your great reviews. Thanks!:thumbsup2
Welcome aboard!

LOL You can make the lasagna recipe and tell me how it turned out! :lmao: Thank you for the Chef Mickey's recipe - it looks like it might be similar, so I'm making it this weekend, and I'll report back on how it was.

great reviews, cant wait to read more!! :)
Thank you!

Thanks Tatania - and I love the recipe thread. When DH and I need a little Disney 'magic' we always pick a recipe off the thread to make for dinner that night.

:confused3

Exactly! I think they're mostly called 'donut holes' but here in the North East we have Dunkin' Donuts, and they're called Munchkins there - it kind of sticks!

After breakfast at Crystal Palace we had our run of the MK. Let me shock you all: THERE WERE NO WAITS AND NO CROWDS FOR ANY RIDES! You heard me correctly. We did everything we wanted to do by 11:15 am. I am talking Space Mountain, Carousel of Progress, the carousel, the tea cups, Mickey's Philharmagic, Splash Mountain, Pirates and one or two others that I cannot remember. Every single one was a WALK ON. The longest we waited was for Splash Mountain, and that was only ten minutes. Even the Fantasyland rides were empty - which is the only reason I rode the carousel. There was no wait and I had never been on it in my dozens of times at WDW (and I even got to ride on Cindy's horse!).

Anyway, after all of that we were starting to get hungry, but our ADR for the Plaza wasn't until 12:25. So we shopped down one side of Main Street and back up the other and checked in at the Plaza at 12 pm. They told us to stand under the yellow and white umbrellas and they would call us. At this point we did notice it becoming a little more crowded, but nothing like we expected 4th of July to be at the Magic Kingdom. After five minutes of waiting (and being serenaded by the Dapper Dans) we were called inside.

View from our table:
plaza.jpg

DH ducking out of the way while I take a picture of the view from our table:
plaza2.jpg

I forget her name, but she was campaigning to be Mayor of Main Street.
plaza3.jpg

The tables were very close together, and you practically knocked into your neighbor when you got up to leave, but I really didn't mind. It wasn't uncomfortable at all, and it's such a pretty restaurant - so don't let the small tables discourage you!

Now, this was our first time at the Plaza, and I have to admit, I had never considered eating here before. But I wrote a little review of our quick weekend to the World last February and talked about a certain ice cream that DH and I are in love with that we can now only get in Disney. In fact, ONLY at the Main Street ice cream shop. :sad2: This makes us not happy at home, but at WDW, we have to have it several times. After that review, a very kind Diser told me that at the Plaza they make a milkshake of this ice cream. Well, I'm sold! Two weeks later we decided to do WDW for July 4th and this was the first ADR I made!

This is the infamous Tollhouse Cookie Dough Swirl milkshake:
HPIM2204.jpg

Please, contain your excitement. :rotfl: I was SO excited to get to this that I literally forgot to get a picture until we were done with lunch. It was just as good as I thought it would be! They even put whipped cream (although not the good stuff from the CP!) and a cherry on top. Which I threw away because I only wanted the shake! Next time you are at the Plaza get this shake! Or if you're at the M.S. Ice Cream Parlour - get the ice cream. It's like cookie dough, only WAY better. You will not be disappointed!

So even though it took us less than 2 seconds to decide on our shakes, we couldn't choose what to eat. Everything looked so good to us. Finally, I settled on the turkey sandwich.

Turkey Sandwich - smoked turkey, bacon, lettuce, vine ripened tomato and mayonnaise on toasted multi-grain bread, served with German potato salad $9.89 (from All Ears)
HPIM2201.jpg

HPIM2202.jpg

I got mine without the tomato. Wow, was this fabulous! Best sandwich at Disney! And that's saying something, 'cause I love Earl of Sandwich. The whole grain bread MADE the sandwich - it was hearty and filling, but still *chewy* if you know what I mean. And the sunflower seeds in the bread... yum.... Also, as I said before, I like my bacon crispy. Almost burnt. Falling apart if I look at it. That's how this bacon was. There is nothing worse than biting into a sandwhich only to have to rip at the bacon with your hands just to be able to get a bite without it all coming off the sandwich. This sandwich was just great.

The German potato salad, on the other hand, was not. It was VERY greasy, and I only had about two bites. It was so greasy that it formed a puddle under one half of my sandwich and almost ruined it. Plus it was on the sweet side, so I'm not sure what was in it to make it taste that way, but I'll take my potato salad with tons of mayo, please. DH tasted a bite and didn't like it at all - and if HE doesn't like something, there's a problem.

DH had the cheesesteak.
Cheese Steak Sandwich - shaved beef, grilled with onions, mushrooms, red peppers, and white American cheese served on a hoagie roll $10.39 (from All Ears)
HPIM2203.jpg

He was smart and got his with fries. And I think he passed on the peppers. This is his opinion: "I liked it, it was good. I liked it, though I am used to cheddar on them, not white American, but it was still good." He ate it all, so I guess even if it wasn't the best he's ever had, he still liked it enough to devour it! (Also, so you all know, I was asking him opinions of things and writing them down on the bus ride to the hotel - not weeks later - and he still didn't know what to say about his food. *sigh*)

We didn't get dessert 'cause we had our shakes the whole time. Let me tell you, those things are huge. Not only do they come in that tall glass, you each get a silver shaker that's 3/4 full with the rest of your shake. Again, soooo good.

Our waitress was Tara, and she was friendly, but a little on the slow side. We didn't mind, though, because it was hot out and we were only on our way back to the room to rest for the afternoon.

Total for two adults with tax and tip (DDE wasn't honored here because of the holiday, even though CP let us use it a few hours before) was $38.41.

Next is dinner at Narcoossee's!

Great reivew! I'm now especially bummed that we didn't get to the Plaza this past trip!! I'll have to add it back on to my "list of firsts" for October along with our ice cream cookie sandwich!!

Yeah, whatever happened to that!?! We should do it just before BBB, this way we're not full from dinner. I completely forgot we were supposed to try that, and now I'm mad at us!

Oh thanks for the Plaza review, we have it scheduled for an early lunch in Oct and I was thinking about cancelling but now I will keep it! And order fries!

I know! I totally forgot too!! But we had lots of other "firsts" so we'll save that one for next time!!! I ate so much I don't know how I would have fit it in anyway!!
