I was wondering if it is worth using points for Carribean Beach. We currently have one night booked there and then a week at OKW the first week of September. It doesn't seem expensive, but is this a waste of my points?

my opinion yes!

if you want a lower cost per point and still an excellent place to stay - AKV - it has a slightly lower cost per point on the weekends than OKW.

pay cash for the moderates and values.

I might use points on a deluxe resort - I know it is a waste - but sometimes I need a change.

Of course it isn't the optimal use of your points. But did you notice those last two words in the first sentence? Best advice I got when I asked the same type of question.:thumbsup2

You could probably rent the amount of points it would take to stay at CBR, pay for your stay with cash, and have money left over. I guess that would be the way to get the best financial value for your points. Renting points can be a significant amount of work, and only you can say whether it's worth it to you. Money vs. convenience.

I'll tell you how I look at it.....I'm treating my Mom to a GF stay on my points this October. Yeah, it sure does take a lot of points, but my Mom LOVES the GF, and is absolutely thrilled to be going back. I'm thrilled to be able to give her something that makes her so happy. And, I have plenty of points left for the other vacation I want to take this year. So, it's all good, as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I guess I could have rented the points, but given current GF prices, I'm not sure I would have gotten enough of a profit to make it worth the trouble.

Not in my opinion. Two double beds when I could get two queen beds at OKW? For fewer points at OKW?

Not worth it if there are other DVC resorts that are nicer to stay at for less points. However, even after saying this...I am using my points to stay at CB on New Year's Eve because all DVC resorts were booked up. My fault, decided too late to book DVC for New Year's. I'm wait listed for the DVC resorts but my back up plan is staying at CB if nothing else becomes available. So then now it becomes a good plan for me to use pts. for CB.

Did you know you cannot get the dining plan if it is not a DVC resort? I wonder why. That made my decision!! Thanks for the input.

Because you aren't purchasing a package to stay at that resort. The deal DVC made with Disney for the DDP for members was only for DVC resorts.

For less points, I'd stay at OKW and get more space and a bigger bed. We stayed on cash at PORS for a night a couple years ago, and I had forgotten how SMALL those rooms are!!! I seem to remember thinking CBR rooms were even smaller.

you would think because it takes more points to stay at a different resort they would still offer the dining plan. I was not paying cash, I was going to use my points. I just really don't see what the difference is

The difference is that you are not paying Disney directly when you use points. They must turn around and try to rent out a DVC reservation with those same points. You CAN get the dining plan if you pay for a cash ressie, and you CAN get the dining plan if you use points at a DVC resort. You just can't get it with an exchange into the Disney collection. It's "out of system" in the eyes of Disney and CRO.
