Is it worth the expense?

I just was on the Cake thread and while each and every one of those cakes look absolutly incredible I wanted to know if they taste as good as they look. My family will be there in May and I'm really interested in getting a cake to help celebrate my girls birthdays - turning the all important age of 10 and the littliest one turning 3(both have June b-days) but I was wondering is it worth all the expense. I'm one that has no problem spending the money but I want to ensure that I get my money's worth, KWIM; I don't want to be stuck with a cake that looks good but that no one wants to eat.:scared:

Side note: I was thinking of having the cake while we were dining at Ohana's and from what I've read on the thread each restaurant has their own bakery. So has anyone had a cake from Ohana's?

HELP,
Toya

Aah, that unfortunately is the age old question Toya (I'm a big help, I know).

1) Don't compare the cost to cakes outside the world. Just like every thing else at WDW it's very much inflated.
2) We ordered a cake and enjoyed it but I would not describe it as outstanding.
3) It would really take a lot for my kids not to eat cake.
4) You may have to take the advice on your tag. It will be worth it because of the memories.
5) last year instead of a cake my son did a kitchen sink from beaches and cream. It was a lot of fun.

We've done birthday cakes twice (CG, 50s PT, about 3-4 years ago) and while yes it was a nice treat, it was still a fairly simple cake and not all that impressive as taste goes. Since then we just save room for the nicer restaurant desserts. FWIW.

I am not sure what kind of cake you are getting, but we were married at WDW and the cakes from the GF bakery are heavenly...I mean people are still talking about our cake. You need to get one with mousse filling (love the chocolate) . I have ever had one from a restaurant, though, well we had the GF bakery make our anniversary layer and deliver it to Narcoosees.

We did a small chocolate cake for my B-day, it wasnt that tasty but the kids had a great time watching all the characters at Chef Mickeys "sing" to me

If you are at O'Hana you can ask for a small cake at the podium for $12. I think she said it would serve 5. Even two of those is cheaper than an ordered cake! That's what I think I'm going to do for my mom.

Definitely worth it for us :thumbsup2

On DD's 13th b-day last summer, we had a cake delivered to the boat for our Illuminations Celebration Cruise. It was about $30.00 & absolutely delicious!!
I would absolutely do it again.
