Is it worth seeing a timeshare presentation to save a few bucks?

I know about the requirements. As a matter of fact, I've done this many times to get the cheap condo. I don't mind sitting through the presentation - actually it's kind of sport to see how frustrated they get when you say NO from the start. I just thought if you could get out of sitting in the presentation and still be able to get the cheap rate, that would be great.

If the IL rumor was true than that would be an additional restriction on the promotion. Get some listings on resales. Mention early on that IF you like the place you'd only buy a resale. People have reported either getting signed out early or at least skipping the presentation and reading the newspaper for 90 minutes.

I did it with my folks, my fiance, my sister and her Hubby a few years ago for tickets to Universal. We were BRUTAL to the poor girl that drew our number.

She asked my dad what his favorite vacation would be and he told her he had never been on one and never planned to go on one. The look on her face was priceless. We got out of there without even having to meet with the "closer".

My Bro in law and I had fun asking how close this place was to Graceland.

It's worth it IMO.

From what I've read so far, It's only worth it if you don't mind going through changes, or treating another human being (deep down they are human) inhumanely.

To put myself in that frame of mind on vacation is totally taxing and not something I would quickly recover from.
I personally avoid uncomfortable situations, and confrontations to maintain my disposition. I will speak up when necessary, or required, but to willingly put myself and my sanity on the line for a hot meal and a couple of passes is definitely not worth it to us.

I do understand that there are those that can do this no problem, but you definitely have to know what type of person you are before committing to do this.

I see nothing in any of these posts that elude to someone being treated inhumanely. Nor do I think that I or anyone else that has benefited from sitting through a presentation are a certain TYPE of person. Timeshare business is a game of fishing. The bait is the freebies, whether it be tickets or a place to stay for a few days. If you choose to be caught, that is your choice, but those in the business of selling timeshares are no victims in this situation.

Don't get me wrong, I own a timeshare in Las Vegas...and at no time during any of the presentations I sat through was I unpolite or trite (except for the time that the manager told me to stop wasting his time - yes, HIS time - and either purchase or get out!)

These posts either read definitely not to Yes it's worth it BUT............you have to go in with a certain mindset and be willing to do some things that may be out of character in order to benefit.
I would never choose to do some of the above posted to another human being (even if they are snakes), so that is why I chose "inhumane" because that is not naturally in me and for me to treat someone like that I would have to see them as not human. Even if a ant's not bothering me, I don't bother it so it would go deeper than that.

Basically what I was trying to say is my opinion is that you have to be willing to sink lower than the sales people and in my opinion that is pretty low and not worth it to my family. We have done 3 presentations in the past and nothing we received was worth the years of bad memories that have stayed with us long after.

I must agree. The impolite treatment by salespeople was very upsetting. I expected disappointment or cheaper offers, but comments about my EATING breakfast is why the demonstration lasted an extra 30 minutes were cruel. I do not choose to treat people that way and will not intentionally subject myself to that treatment again. I'd rather do priceline and deal with a little smaller space.

One time our poor sales rep. pulled out the big book of places you can swap your time share for and asked, "Anywhere in the world, you would like to go on vacation is right here. Name any destination. I said, "Cuba" and the poor guy starts looking in the index. I said, "It's not in there, I was being facetious." "No, we've got Cuba, don't you worry just give me a minute." Me and husband just looked at each other. We both felt sorry for the guy.
