Is it worth it...

As other people have posted, you get some extra perks by purchasing the AP. Plus, they send you mailers that seem to always put a smile on my face this time of year when it's FREEZING and we can't get down.

Since we're talking APs, can I ask about getting the TIW card? I plan to upgrade my ticket in Feb. to an AP. Can I get a TIW card right away too?

If you do the upgrade at a Guest Relations Office you can get the TiW card on the spot. If you do it at a Ticket Window you will have to go to a GRO for the card.

Since having an Annual Pass appears to be worth it in your case, I'm going to give you another reason to get one. You can enter the park for just a couple of hours without feeling that you are "wasting" a ticket. If you arrive in the late afternoon, for example, you can go to a park for dinner and a ride or two that evening, instead of having to wait for the next day. I do this all the time.

Exactly MouseyMin and you will do this most likely. We do it all the time too.

Yes you need an AP for sure.

The "Tables in Wonderland" discount dining card will save you 20% on dining at most Disney restaurants and allow you free parking at the resorts to eat at those restaurants. It's well worth the money IF you plan on eating at table service restaurants often during your visits. It basically covers the tip. I think the AP discount for the card is around $80.00 or $90.00. You can't get it at all if you're no an AP holder.

The AP discount on Disney Packages, including Dining (or not), can be pretty significant also. We're staying at the Grand Flo "Lagoon View" with Dining, taxes included, for $455.00 a night coming up. Rack Rate would be over $735.00 per night NOT including food or passes for the same time period. This is based on 2-adults and 2-kids(5 & 9).

Yes and do be aware the AP's have little mind control devices built into them guaranteed to make you go more often :) We've been five times, for 10-days at a time, in the last year alone. We're going again in March too. Yikes!

My head is spinning from all this info!

I apologize for being so dense, but I want to make sure I understand this correctly.

We are a group of 2 families staying at the Poly (40% off code) with the DxDDP. We've got the pkg deal with the MYW tickets. It's a pretty good bet that at least one of the families will be returning within the year.

So:
1. If I purchase the AP & TIW, how will I figure out if this will benefit me financially? Everything is all lumped together in the info from my TA with just a total amt due...
2. I'm sure the TIW will save me money even if I keep the DxDDP, based just on the alcohol we'll consume. But can I use the card for the entire table? As I mentioned, we're 2 separate families with 2 separate rooms. We're eating all of our special TS meals together on 1 ADR. We both have the exact same pkg.
3. And I'll also have to factor in the price of the AP. Am I correct in assuming that just one person in our party has to have the AP in order to receive the discounts? Or will 1 person in each family have to purchase an AP? If it matters, I purchased everything with my credit card. Despite the fact that we have 2 rooms, we're still from the same family. In 1 rm is DH, GS, GD, and me. In the other rm is DS and her 2 sons. Rooms ARE booked under 2 different names... Works out to 5 adults and 2 children. This is all so complicated! I hope I'm making sense to you...

As I'm typing this, I think I'm beginning to understand this thread a little better... I'm going to the tix link provided by Cheshire Figment, so that will solve part of the puzzle. But my head is still spinning!

Thank you for any advice and/or direction you can give me.

Hi Gretchen,

Here are the answers to most of your questions. Read this and then ask more questions if you need to.

Don't get overwhelmed. It is a lot to get your head around :)

Here's the deal on the AP. If you go more than once in a year it paid for itself or if you go over 10-days in one stay and have to repurchase a shorter multi-day pass for the additional days. Even if you break even the benefits of being an AP holder more than make up the difference via discounts, freedom to move about, etc... Some days we only go to a park for a couple hours especially if it's crazy busy or bad weather sets in. The fact you can just go back and hang at the hotel without feeling guilty for wasting a day on a multi-day pass is comforting... Or let's say you just feel like hanging at the hotel one day and you decide that night you want to go to EPCOT for dinner, you're going to have to waste a day just getting into EPCOT to get to the restaurant.

Now if you're not going back this year then you do need to put the pencil to it, may not be worth it and if you feel you won't make up the difference in the 20% alcohol discount using the TiW card, vs what it costs to buy it, then you need to reconsider purchasing it also. I do feel in your case, since you have 10-people with you (total guests allowed under one AP holder's TiW card) that it probably would pay for itself.

Ted.
