Is it worth it to not be huge pregnant . . .

Hi, I'd say stick with your original plan of going in September. I know it is worrisome, but I don't know, I'd rather go on trips later in the pregnancy than so early on, that morning sickness and exhaustion just hits so suddenly. I was 31 weeks pg and had an 11 month old in tow when my husband and I decided we needed to drive to Rome (18 hours from us,eeek) and explore all the ancient ruins they had, all of course after Gladiator came out ;) . Honestly it was much better than when we ventured out when I was very early in my pregnancies, people were much more attentive and nicer (yay for perks) and offered us help all the time. Plus that 7-8 months mark is not like the last when you just want that baby out of you, still have energy (I was in the army with both and remember doing jumping jacks and knee push ups at 36 weeks!) so I think if you take precautions, drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest and have help with the other kids, you will minimize the risks for complications. But of course your doctor's input is most valuable.

Congrats! I would discuss it with your OB and then make a choice on now vs after baby. It also depends on if you could relax and enjoy it at that time. HH9ms to you and have a great trip when you go! :goodvibes

I personally think for a normal pregnancy, 28 weeks is nothing (I was 37 weeks during my last trip). But for a high risk pregnancy, especially with some of the factors you mentioned, it may not be the best idea. Have you talked to your OB? Would the OB even 'allow' it, given your past pregnancies?

OMG! I just read your signature... I am 28 weeks pregnant and having a girl.....and I am going to name her Grace and Gracie as a nickname. I LOVE IT!!!:goodvibes

I would talk to your doctor. There is no way mine would let me go. I have had some high risk pregnancies - all 4 of them.

Honestly I don't think there is a price you can put on your health and the health of your unborn child.

If you can't go now, then I would postpone it until after the baby. So you lose money...a healthy baby and mom are more important.

With a high risk pregnancy I would go now. Even though you are going to spend $700 more now, if something were to happen unplanned it could end up costing you more than that $700.

I went to Disney when I was 28 weeks with my second, I was not a super high risk like you might be. I did have preeclampsia with my first and a rough delivery resulting in blood transfusion for me and a week's stay in the hospital for me and 9 days for Gracie.
With my second, I was classified as high risk b/c of the blood pressure from last time, but I was okay, I am from Florida so the heat wasn't that bad, but just like the nurse said hydrate!!!

I would go in September with help. That way you can rest and hang out in the room if you need to. I know as a mom you don't want to dissappoint your little ones, but do what is best for your own self and the baby.

Good luck making your decision!!!! We just found out we are expecting our first child and I will be about 23 weeks when we go in September. We plan on relaxing and taking it easy and hopefully all will go well!

I may be wrong- but don't most risks come with the third trimester? Plus, if her doctor keeps watching her and says she's good to go in September- why wouldn't she be good to go? Yes, she'd be in Florida, but it's not like she'd be millions of miles away from a hospital. It's not like she can't say, "Hey, today, I'm putting my feet up at the hotel, going swimming, and staying out of the parks." She can set her pace IF she goes during her original time.

First, I would have said go in 1.5 weeks, but since that can't happen- I'd talk to my doctor, talk to my doctor some more and hopefully go in September.

One thing, though, now that I think about it, is that IF something does happen between now and your trip- are you going to be able to cancel it or push it back without losing much money? (IE IF at 25 weeks- your doctor says you aren't going anywhere- what then?)

so alas....we also had a trip booked (non refundable tickets purchased) for december....and last night/this morning was confirmed that i am pregnant! we are thrilled since it took nothing at all to conceive this one...the last pregnancy took 4 months and i was worried sick the entire time...

but....no wdw in december for me!

so we too are in a pickle...i called united and they explained the $$ to me...and for $50 more (flights only) i can go in june...

BUT

is june too hot for a fair weathered canadian...and her 3 children and husband.

OK, here is my exciting dilemma: My dh and I have been trying to add to our family for 16 months. I finally got a positive pregnancy test 2 weeks ago, I am due around Christmas. My problem is that my family and I have a trip planned to Orlando the last week of Sept. and the 1st week of Oct. for free dining at POP, booked it last September as a bounceback with free dining and was planning to take my kids to MNSSHP. I will be hugely pregnant, 28 weeks. I have pretty high risk pregnancies, I'm type 1 diabetic, have had a placental abruption, irritable uterus, and preeclampsia causing my last to be born at 36 weeks, but I haven't ever been on bedrest. We could change airline tickets and go in a 1.5 weeks :scared1:, but it will cost us around $700more to change airline tickets. The pros- I will be 7 weeks preggo, we could go to P&PP (I don't think it's sold out), it will be flower and garden festival. The cons- We can't go to MNSSHP, it will cost more money, no free dining, most likely we will be offsite with a car or onsite without a car (In Sept. we will be onsite with car), the kids will have to miss 6 days of school vs. 3 in Sept. So, I don't know what to do. I feel that it is best to keep our plans to go in Sept., but I get so big:rolleyes1 I gained 60+ pounds with all 3 of my previous pregnancies. I am super excited to be pregnant, but timing wasn't the best as far as Disney World is concerned. So, experienced moms what would you do if you were in my situation?

PS We can't go after the baby unless we go offsite, because my youngest turns 3 on Dec. 8th. So, that rules out staying onsite.

Hon, stay home, rest and hold that baby in. taking a trip is not worth loosing a baby over. if your high risk you answered your question, what to do? Stay home and relax and enjoy the pregnancy. do not take chances, I know I would not.
And congrats !!! :)

I wouldn't go in Sept. and I definitely wouldn't go in 1.5 weeks at 7 weeks pregnant. My first pregnancy was a breeze. I was never sick, and except for PIH/preeclampsia at the end, it was easy. This pregnancy has been 100% different. By 6 weeks, I started feeling ill. By 7 weeks, I was down and out, on Zofran, Phenegran, and some OTC meds just to be able to keep fluids down. NO WAY would I have wanted to fly/go on vacation feeling like that. I could barely make it to the couch most days.

I wouldn't risk going later and I definitely wouldn't risk going in the first trimester unless I was SURE that I wouldn't feel the least bit sick. I'm 20 weeks now, and I'm still sick and haven't gained any weight yet. We're going to Disney in 4 weeks and I'm not planning to do much more than sit in the DVC unit and maybe go to the pool. Disney will still be there after your baby is born, even if you do have to stay offsite.

I will be 26 weeks when we go in late August, trip was planned well in advance of this. But, I will be with DH, DD5, BIL, SIL and niece, 12, So, I figured that if I have to sit it out sometimes, I can and there are still plenty of people to go with the kids and socialize with. Plus, SIL is an MD, so I am sure she will be watching carefully, it is her nature.

if you must go, have hubby push you around in a wheel chair :) rent one off site, ( cheaper) or get a scooter. you deserve it, and so does your baby. Congrats , a baby is such a wonderful gift ! :)

I'm really quite curious about this- why is it assumed she'd be risking her pregnancy by going to the parks? WDW is in the United States- I'm sure there are good hospitals close by in case of an emergency or even anything that might worry/bother her. So why does it sound like some people are assuming she's risking her pregnancy (IF her doctor says she can go) if she decides to go to the parks? Just curious about the reasoning behind that line of thought. If she was saying, "I'm high risk- should I go on Splash Mountain?"- sure- I could see telling her not to risk her pregnancy, but just GOING to WDW with her doctor's permission?

I would postpone the trip as well. We went when ours was an infant and it worked out quite well! He slept the whole time and it was easy as pie!

I just have to throw my 2 cents worth out here. I know I will probably get flamed but you did ask.
If it were me and I had all those high risk issues I wouldn't go in third trimester period. WDW isn't going anywhere. The potential money lost would not even be an issue. You are essentially putting a price tag and a pretty low one at that on the health and well being of your child and your own sanity, you are worried now and you will be even more worried and stressed then. If you were concerned enough to ask then you already know you don't want to take the risk. At the end of the day it's just money and you can always reschedule for later. Try calling WDW and the airlines and explain, who knows what you might be able to work out and it won't cost anything to ask. I don't intend this to be an attack and I wish you well with whatever you end up doing.

I'm 29 weeks now (no issues other than the dang swelling) and I would have been fine to go last week. Having said that I'd ask your OB before makingn a decision either way.

Congratulations!
