Is it worth attempting mine train at rope drop?

Hi all:thumbsup2

We arrive on Monday August 18th and have two full days (19/20) at
MK. Assuming we are done from our 8.10 crystal palace ADR on 19th, we can be ready to go at RD both days.

I'm confused as to when summer crowds start to reduce (we are from the UK so don't know how the US school dates are)?

Is it a good idea to head to Mine Train first thing, or is it better to head across the park to say BTMR/SM and get Frontierland and perhaps Adventureland done in the first hour or so?

I guess I am just trying to gauge whether MT has hour waits right from the start of the day or whether it is possible to get on it using the standby line in 10 mins or so if you're early enough? Is it a mad rush to get there at RD? - I'm not interested in being part of a pushing/shoving game to get there - that would make me sad;)

Finally - what is early enough? If park opening is 9am - what time should we aim to get to the main entrance by if we are going to attempt MT first thing?

Many thanks for any help:thumbsup2

I would say to avoid Fantasyland at all cost first thing in the morning. It sounds like a stressful place to be with Anna and Elsa there as well. Relax, enjoy your breakfast and head to Frontierland for Splash and BTMR. Get a FP for the Mine Train if you can.

We just returned and rode Mine Train on two separate mornings at RD without any problem. The CM walked us back behind a rope. The group separated at one point with the mine train group heading towards the Tea Cups. The Anna and Elsa group took another path.

We did this twice last week. Once with a 8:05 ADR and once without any breakfast ADR. Both times we rode 7DMT with about a 15 minute wait and when we got off at about 9:15 there was a 90 minute wait. There is no way to ride this ride first thing in the morning without walking at a brisk pace with a large crowd. But CMs walk the crowd in so there isn't any running and the 2 times we did it, no one pushed or shoved us. It wasn't terrible. I would take that any day over leaving MK after the fireworks!! :faint: You will not be walked through the castle and into Fantasyland but will coming around from the side of the teacups through Tomorrowland.

If you are going to try after breakfast, plan to eat kind of quickly and be ready to move out by 8:40 or 8:45. All mornings that we did MK they let guest in around this time. You won't see all the characters. I also suggest that you ask for your bill with your drink order and pay it first thing. Nothing more annoying as watching loads of people of coming into the park and having to wait to pay your bill! For our breakfast, we were at the park around 7:20. Without the breakfast, we were at the bark around 8 to 8:10.

+1

We basically avoided this ride, sure it was new and would have been nice to ride but the line quickly escalated into the 90+ minute range. My FPs were booked before this one was allowed so no FP for it either. We just decided we would go into tomorrow land and frontier land when everyone else was rushing into fantasy land. We rode Space / Slash / BTMR two or three time in a row as walk-ons at RD. The areas had little to no people in them as well making it easier to get around.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it:thumbsup2

I think what we might do then, as we have two mornings (and we are only walking from BLT -so not far), is to attempt the walk with the masses on one day (thank you for describing that - we won't mind a brisk pace, I'm just pleased it's a civilised process!;)) and then rather than rush our crystal palace breakfast ( I like to linger over their delicious French toast/breakfast lasagne - as I've been waiting 8 months to eat that again!:goodvibes), we'll head to BTMR etc that day instead - ideal as we're already that side of Main St!:thumbsup2

Thanks so much for all of your help:flower3:
