Is it worth a call?

Our grandchildren have tons of toys so my husband and I have been talking about giving our 4 grandchildren trips to WDW with us.
The question is should I call to ask if I could possibly get annual passes. We want to take each child by themselves for 4-5 days - one on one time and if my husband and I have to purchase separate theme park tickets for each trip, that might throw a monkey wrench in our plans.
What do you think?

There's not much to think about. If you're going to be making 4 separate 4-5 day trips an AP will be much cheaper. If you're talking about whether you can convince Disney to sell you an annual pass before they start selling them I doubt they'll be able to do anything.

Thank-you, David. Think I'll call on Monday. I've read where they've made exceptions. Keeping my fingers crossed.
If I get info on when WDW might start selling them again, I'll post it here with an update.

It never hurts to ask - but the exceptions you're generally hearing about are for people who are renewing, kids who's parents already have passes, etc. Not sure if they'll make any exception for a non-passholder who just wants to buy one.

Given the absurd wait times on the phone, I’m not sure it’s worth calling as this is not really a special circumstance.

It’s a nice gift idea though. I’m sure your grandchildren would be happy with any Disney trip.

Marionette, thank-you, I will.

FCDub, thank-you, for your reply. If we can't get the annual passes, we might just take 2 trips and bring 2 grandchildren at a time instead on 1 or we'll bring them somewhere else . My husband and I really like the idea of giving each grandchild our undivided attention for 4-5 days.

If they’re old enough to enjoy Universal (coasters and thrill rides), Universal APs are lots cheaper than WDW APs and are available now. And if you stay at one of their deluxe hotels, you get free Express Passes (basically unlimited FP) from day of check in through day of check out.

OP- let us know what happens with that phone call because if all it takes to get an AP right now is a phone call (albeit with a crazy long hold time) a lot of us will be picking up the phone!

Wish they were but the children are 7,5,5,and 4. I actually like Uni better because it's a more laid back trip. We used to stay at the Royal Pacific all the time. Have not been back in about 5 years.

Heart of TeFiti - I will report back here no matter what I'm told.

That‘s so sweet and thoughtful a gift. I still remember how my grandfather used to take each of us shopping and to lunch and a movie for our birthday and it was so exciting to have one on one time. I don’t think you will be able to get an exception but it doesn’t hurt to try. If it doesnt work, would you consider taking all three and splitting up a few days where one of you would take one of them on their own for the day and the other takes the other two or maybe a few hours and you could still get some alone time with each and still get together time as well? I hope it works out for you. It’s really a lovely special idea.

I would be amazed if they give you an AP simply because you want to save money. If that were the case everyone would get one. It would also set a bad precedent for Disney, with people calling and requesting an AP because they just want one. I hope you figure out something that works for you but I really don’t see this happening.

Also, be prepared that you might be told one thing on the phone and something else when you actually go to purchase the tickets

I look forward to hearing from you

If someone tells her yes, she should purchase them on the spot. Anyone who has the authority to allow it should also be able to complete the transaction.

During the shut down, I wanted a refund for ours (This was before it became widely done). The same person who okayed it processed the credit immediately over the phone.

Thank-you, Becky, we might consider taking 2 and 2 on 2 trips. W

We'll see disneydreamer, I'm not super hopeful since Disney + magic is not the thing it once was but I'm going to try anyway.

LOL, Sue, so things have not changed too much.

It's not really a matter of magic/pixie dust--it's a matter of precedent. If they set a precedent and people start reporting that you can get an AP just because you call in, without meeting the exceptions they've allowed to date (i.e., renewal of AP that was allowed to lapse; family of AP holders where a 2 year old turns 3 and needs a ticket), then that will open the floodgates of people requesting special exceptions. I think calling is a waste of your time right now.

If we can't get the APs before say late November, we'll just take the grandchildren somewhere else.
