Hello fellow AKL lovers! Has anyone also stayed at Bay lake tower? I am dvc and have stayed at AKL for most of my trips because it is my absolute favorite!! I am planning an upcoming trip for february and the bf wants to try bay lake tower. I am up to try it, but am afraid nothing will compare to akl and it will ruin my experience at blt. Any lovers try another resort for the first time and miss akl terribly? or should i suck it up and do a split stay? Thanks for your help!

....I think a split stay is the perfect compromise...:thumbsup2

So I just read a thread about AKL and the buses being horrible. This has really made me nervous for our upcoming trip to AKL. Last year we stayed at Okw and the buses were wonderful as far as never having to wait and always having space. We will be traveling with our DD and a stroller this time. Can y'all ease my mind? We will be there Feb27-march2
Thanks!

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I think what happened is all of us AKL guests got spoiled with being the only resort and direct pick-up and drop-off. ;) Since Kadani opened the buses pick up there first, then head over to AKL. However on returns (at least for us) they dropped off at AKL first then headed over to Kadani.

There was only once during our last visit that we had a long wait, it was for the Studios bus one morning about 10 am. We waited about 30 minutes. But that was the only time. Not an issue in our minds with a six day stay, going to the parks everyday, sometimes going back to AKL to relax and back out again in the evening. (We were there in October during Food and Wine A pretty busy time of the year. Your going to be there during a slower season I believe. :)

The resort is so amazing with all the animals, art work, handcarved wood work. We love it so much there! It is restful and probably the closest some of us will ever get to visiting Africa. I love how it is unlike any other resort we have had the privilege of staying in. During my DH’s military career he traveled to and/or was stationed on every continent except Antarctica. We have stayed in some amazing places during our married life, both military and privately but Animal Kingdom Lodge is still top of our list.

I am certain you will have a great vacation!

We always stay at Pop Century & like the way they have seperste lines for each stop so everyone is in the order they got there. Is there any trouble at AKL when the buses come with people who just got to the stop getting on first & you were there first & then you don't make it on the bus because it's full? (sorry it's worded so difficultly)

Generally, not a problem. It's like commuting - they don't have "lines" on street corners to get onto the public buses. Or your kids' school buses. Most people (yes, I know there are exceptions) are fairly polite. But of course it is likely that someone who arrives after you will get on before you.

Can it happen? Sure. Does it happen a lot? Nope.

Good morning, Jamborinis and Kidanites! :sunny:

We are home from our topsy-turvy F&W trip. It was wonderful getting to meet those of you at BC and I was so sorry to miss my good friends Diana and Kathy at AKL. :(

We had a different kind of trip, to be certain. Not as magical as we would have hoped, but it did get better as the week progressed. Disney does know how to train its CMs... they were wonderful. :goodvibes

I know those of you on facebook have read some of what happened on our trip, but not all of it. I am going to post it once and then not say anything else since this is (technically) an AKL thread! Of course, what happened to us directly affected my ability to be at the AKL when I was supposed to be so maybe you can connect it that way. :rotfl:

We were at Saratoga Springs since our waitlist for Kidani never came through. This was our first stay there (probably our last) and it was the very last Disney Resort that we had not stayed in up till this point. Briefly, our accessible unit, which was guaranteed and blocked off by Member Services was not available for us when we arrived. It had been assigned to someone else. Meanwhile we had been given a villa that had "all our requests (third floor, waterview in The Paddock)." The problem with this was that no requests had been made by me or my friend who booked the room for us. Other than requiring a handicapped villa we made no requests at all! A manager was able to find another villa on the other side of Saratoga for us but it was not ready so we did not get into the room until 4:00.

Well, we didn't get into the room because the lock wouldn't open. Maintenance replaced the entire lock and door knob unit and we were finally able to use the door by 6:30 that night. The rest of the story had to do with housekeeping issues that were awful and the overall condition of the unit we were in. The accessible unit had a regular bathtub in it. There was no bath seat so Bob could not take a shower. He cannot step up and over a tub! The only things accessible about the unit were the kitchen area, a threshold ramp out onto the patio and a lower bed. When we opened the sheers on the patio door we were greeted by a naked baby doll that could not have been missed by the housekeeper if she had just opened the curtains. The sofa bed had another toy in it, as well as candy stuck inside of the bed area. The kitchen was not well-equipped at all. No measure cups of spoons, no serving utensils, no wine opener, etc. That was enough for me to decide to make a trip to the front desk to talk to a manager at some point in the next couple of days.

However, After the sofa bed broke at 11:30 on Sunday night I called the night manager and told her the whole story. She sent maintenance to repair the bed (the neighbors just LOVED the sound of drills and screwguns at midnight). She also sent a CM to retrieve the toys (he wore latex gloves to do so :rotfl:) and told us she would take care of a move for us the next morning.

She did and management went out of their way to make it a better trip for us. The day manager was in tears by the time she read our file. They were financially generous as well as setting up a reserved viewing area for Illuminations for us one evening. So, they did as well as they could do, but we lost the joy of our first 2 1/2 days of vacation. That we cannot get back. BUT... overall, the trip was good and we all had a great time at the F&W Festival.

The CMs we encountered were amazing. They were kind and generous and understanding and helpful. It was as it should be at Disney. The people are what make it that way. Disney execs should be proud of their training program, because it certainly made for "good show."

Wow, Elin, that's awful:scared1: Sad to miss the joy on the 1st few days of the trip:sad2:
So glad they made things right in the end:thumbsup2

I'm so glad they changed things, but so sorry that it took them a while to do so. It seems like the manager genuinely cared about your problem. What an absolute bummer to start off your trip like that :(
