Is it too hot to go in the summer?

I need your help. My hubby and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary this coming March. We are renewing our vows and had been planning a trip to Disneyworld in July. I don't really like the idea of going that time of summer but we're using my parents vacation travel club and that's when it's first available. I work at a school so summer is our best time to travel.
My question is for those that have been there in the summer time. I'm really nervous about the heat and humidity. Is it worth going in July? Or will we be miserable. What are the crowds like in July?

We have been to Disney 4 times the week after Thanksgiving and have loved it but this time it won't work. My dd worked at Epcot when she was a part of the Disney Career Start Program back in 08. I love Disney and have always thought it would be a special way to celebrate our 25th anniversary but I'm having second thoughts. Can somebody help me?

Couldn't pay me enough to go. Surface of the sun hot. Sweat pouring into your eyes before the parks open.

The only way I'd go would be to stay in my room all day and come out after dark. Hardly seems worth it for that.

Congratulations on the 25th anniversary milestone. It is hot normally but not overly so if you plan your day. I would suggest planning to be in air conditioned venues as much as possible. The ability to work around the heat depends on the persons involved.

I live in SW Florida and I can tell you that we do very little in the heat of the day. It is just too rough. Even sitting by the pool is rough. The crowds and heat would be enough to keep me away in July-Aug. We actually went this year in May and we were very uncomfortable.

I've been there at that time. It can be quite miserable especially if you don't like the heat. Crowds can also be heavy at the time of the year.

If it is the only time you can go try to devise a good touring plan -- be at rope drop and tour the parks in the morning leaving once it gets really hot. Then go back in the evening after the sun begins to set and the temperature starts to fall. In other words take a break or rest during the middle portion of the day.

We went last August and I was *dreading* the heat. I don't well in heat and humidity at all - there's a reason I live in Scotland! We'd been in May a few years back, staying at POFQ and I found May far too hot for me so I expected August to be unbearable.

Ha! It was fine! We got up early and were at the parks for rope drop, left around lunchtime, headed back to our hotel to chill for a few hours and then headed out again late afternoon/early evening. The big difference for me, however was that we went back to our favourite hotel, WL. Being in a giant expanse of airconditioned bliss was infinitely better than POFQ where unless I was in the room, it was roasting. Even the short walk from the room to/from the CS restaurant was enough to wilt me and I felt quite confined to the room. The WL was brilliant in the heat.

I'd go again in the summer no bother (assumes going back to the WL!).

Millions and millions of people don't think its too hot or the parks wouldn't be packed. We have been in summer before and yes it is hot, but not unbearable. We have similar weather and humidity here at home so we are used to it a little. We always take breaks mid day like noon-4pm so that helps, swimming mid day or just chilling in the room helps alot. Also getting to the parks early is key for us there are a few hours in the morning where it is a wee bit cooler but more importantly the crowds havn't gotten large yet.

I went the second week of June a few years back, and got sun poisoning the first day! The summer sun in Florida is waaaay too intense for fair-skinned people like me.

we just went this past June - going again this June - it was hot, but if you take things slow and enjoy what you are doing it wasn't crazy.

I'm quite fond of the skin on my thighs... You couldn't pay me to go back during July or August.

ill be there in mid july to celebrate my wifes 46th bday, it will be hot but like everybody said if you take it easy , not commando you will be fine , have fun and congrats on 25 yrs:yay:

If you wear shorts & light colours, take afternoon breaks, drink plenty of water and maybe carry a mist-fan with you, it is certainly doable.

Do one thing outdoors, then go indoors for the next attraction and so on.

I don't think you should go, more room for us then.

:thumbsup2

Seriously, though, I've never had a major problem. Like everyone else has said, you just need to plan for it. DH and I can knock out pretty much everything we want to do in the 2 hottest parks (DHS and AK in our opinion) by lunch.

Side note - I do teach in an unair-conditioned school where the year starts in August and ends in the middle of June. It is not unusual for it to be over 100 degrees in my classroom. The ability to wear shorts and tank tops in WDW plus the frequent stops in buildings with AC make it seem almost heavenly!

Would you mind me asking what week in June you went? We have never been in June before always mid to late May and now we are booked 6/23/ to 6/30/2011. We find late May hot and humid and don't mind at all...how much different do you think a month will make weather wise? TIA ;)

Congratulations on your upcoming Anniversary :goodvibes

We go every year in late August when the heat is hotter than hot. But the crowds are less so I would much rather deal with the heat than the crowds. I spray me & the kids down with sunscreen, we all drink lots & lots of water & have spray fans. Most of the rides & attractions are air conditioned anyway.

I'm not sure what the crowd levels are in July but when my husband & I went in June for our honeymoon, the crowds were crazy nuts.... I would never go in June again.

Anytime in Disney is a happy time. You can't help but smile the whole time regardless of the heat.

BTW... Congrats on your upcoming 25th Anniversary!

Congratulations!

As for the question, that really depends on you. We go in the summer and find it doable. We do our touring in the morning and in the evening and save the afternoon for shopping and indoor venues.

The summer has its advantages. Fewer items are closed for refurbishment and if you avoid July, there seem to be fewer tour groups. Also the parks tend to be open later.

I LOVE WDW except during the summer months.....There are certain times of the year we will NOT go...sprind break, and summer....just being honest....

You and me both! I'm a fair-skinned Irish lass........ and the heat and I do not get along!

To the OP: The mere fact that you are asking means you have some concerns. You are wise to consider the impact the heat will have on your trip.

The truth is everyone is different. Some people soak up the heat and seem to thrive. My husband and son think I'm nuts. But they have more of an olive skin tone, don't burn and are never bothered by the heat. Some of us are completely heat intolerant. I was dying to go MNSSHP so we went the last week of September/first week of October in 09. They set record highs that week and I was quickly reminded of why I don't go in the heat. It most assuredly sucked some of the magic out of the trip for me. You can miss the mid-day sun, but are you prepared to give up that much touring time? And honestly...... don't kid yourself into thinking it's cool til noon and then you go in. I was dripping sweat before the park opened. And it doesn't necessarily cool off just because the sun sets. We were dripping sweat the entire night (after sundown) of MNSSHP.

We changed back to cooler times this year...... and hit record cold. Figures....... But I was WAY happier than I was in the record heat!

My best friend is having her 25th anniversary next August. They are celebrating at Disney, but opted for December instead to avoid the heat. You can celebrate the event any day you want. There's no rule.
