Is it too early for an April 2014 PTR? Starting one anyway. FINAL 4/28 & TR Link!

Great News about Joey :) He is so adorable :)

Congrats on the Seven Dwarfs! It looks awesome. I like that there is more room and the grocery store is close. The pool looks great and you can't beat the added addition of the play ground.

Sounds Awesome.

Thanks so much....we had another great therapy session with Joey today. He even made his Therapist cry because he did so well!!

I cannot tell you how relieved I am to have secured this condo!!! I just know we will all be so much more comfortable!

Secured my final ADR!!! Woohoo!!

Ok, so I know in the beginning I said I wasn't going to make that many ADR's but I have now made one for every day we are in the Parks except for the last day! Oops...oh well!

Here is the rundown of our meal planning (I know you all are on the edge of your seats):

4/20: Arrival Day

Breakfast: At home
Lunch: Pick up something on the road and stop at a Rest Area to have a picnic (and allow the kids to run off some energy)
Dinner: On the road...something quick

4/21: Animal Kingdom (possible hop to Epcot)

Breakfast: At the condo
Lunch: Rainforest Cafe (favorite of DD and DH)
Dinner: QS if still at a Park or off-site somewhere

4/22: Magic Kingdom

4/23: Epcot (possible hop to another Park...thinking about taking Monorail over to MK)

Breakfast: At the condo
Lunch: Beaches and Cream!!!!!!!!! Was finally able to secure this one today. Planning on taking a boat ride over to the restaurant!
Dinner: QS if still at a Park or off-site somewhere

4/24: Hollywood Studios

Breakfast: At the condo
Lunch: Sci-Fi
Dinner: Kids and Grandmas will have dinner at the condo. This is mine and DH's date night (including details below)

4/25: Not sure what Park we will start off at, but now we will end in MK

Breakfast: At the condo
Lunch: QS
Dinner: QS

So, there it is...I'm pretty happy with these plans. I think everyone will enjoy themselves and be able to find something on the menu they will like!

Date Night (4/24) changes:

Originally we had planned on having dinner at 'Ohana but DH and I decided we wanted to spend the time together in the Parks. So, the tentative plan is to leave HS in the early afternoon and take the Grandmas and the kids back to the condo. The kids and Grandmas can relax, go swimming, play and will probably order a pizza or something for dinner. DH and I will probably head back to HS and hit the major rides that the Grandmas and kids would not like (ToT and RnR). Depending on the time, we may hop from there over to the MK. We will grab a QS dinner somewhere. MK is open until 11 that night, so we should have plenty of time to explore the Park just the two of us. I'm still a bit torn because I haven't seen F! ever (please don't throw the rocks too hard), but I love Wishes and I don't know if we will be able to see it this trip because the kids (and Grandmas) might not make it that late. The alternative is to go to MK first and then hop to HS and stay to see F!

I have 89 days to decide!! :)

I know I'm a Disney Geek, but I'm among good company. :grouphug:

So, while I was working yesterday (I work from home), my DH yelled up to me to let me know I had some mail from Disney. WooHoo! I took a look and it was my customized maps I had ordered!! Does anyone else order these? I order them every trip, I think it is such a great little "FREE" trinket to have for each trip. I love looking over them even though I have them memorized, but it just gets me so excited for our trip (82 days)!!

I thought I would share my giddiness (is that a word?) with you all so here are some pictures of my maps. :flower3:

Our family has just had such a tough time this past year this trip is starting to mean more and more to us. It's a time for us to get away, and a time to enjoy just being together. My DH and I keep saying this is going to be a once in lifetime trip (not that we won't go back because we definitely will), but I don't think we could do another trip with both of our Moms with us. I get teary-eyed just thinking about watching them with our kids. They are going to get such a kick out of the kids having so much fun!!

I know I started this PTR super early, but I have really enjoyed writing this and hope you all are enjoying reading along. I definitely plan on doing a TR as well. My DH came across my Disney Journal from our last trip and he pointed out I stopped making entries as soon as we left the house...I explained to him that is because I forgot to pack it!! Not this time, buddy!!! I want to take notes so I can capture the moments in the TR because I think I will enjoy looking back and re-reading our experience!!

Well, that's it for today. Thanks for following along!

Just wanted to say Hello!!

Hello All!! I know it's been awhile since I updated this PTR, but not much has changed at this point. We are just counting down the days until Disney (58 days!!).

I will be buying my tickets from UT on 3/14, and then I plan to link them to my MDE. I still haven't completely decided on my FP+ selections, but since I'm staying off-site I can't select them until I'm in the Park anyway. The game plan is to get to the Parks at RD each day, and select my FP's for the late afternoon/evening. I think it will be completely necessary for us to take a break at the condo in the early afternoon...my MIL is really concerned about get tired. I was planning on working in a break anyway since I know it will be crowded. We would be there for RD, hit some of the popular rides, have lunch and then head back to the condo for a break around 2pm. We can then come back to the Park around 5ish.

Another thing I'm considering is getting the DAS for my son. As those of you that have been following this PTR know he was assessed in October and we were informed he was showing signs of Autism. He is doing so well with the interventions we have set up, but I'm nervous he will struggle being in a confined space for an extended amount of time while waiting in line (he can get pretty aggressive...head-butting, smacking, etc). I think he will be fine in the actual line for any wait time less than 30 minutes, but after that I think it would be a struggle and my fear is that he would lash out. We have no problem waiting out the time outside the line because we could keep him busy with other activities. Now if we get there and he does well in the lines then we are good to go. When I mentioned this to my Mom, she actually thought about getting one of these for her hip. She does well with walking, but it's the standing for long period of times that can cause some pain. I haven't had a chance to research the DAS as much as I would like to and one of my main questions is how many of our party go with Joey if we do end up getting the card? Meaning, if we get the card and we go to Winnie the Pooh and are told to come back in an hour to ride it, how many of us get to go with hime to ride? We would all want to ride it, and there are 6 of us all together (which includes Joey). So, would all 6 of us be able to go on the ride with him? All stuff I will need to look into before we go.

I know this was a rather boring update, but like I said not much has changed. I just can't express how much we all need this trip this year. It's been a tough year (well 2 years), and I just need to be in the WDW bubble for a week to just breathe!!

Thanks for following along, and please feel free to leave comments, questions, advice or just say HELLO
!

Hi Sandy :)

I too have nothing to post on my PTR at the moment. The poor thing is being neglected.

I think the DAS is a good idea for both grandma and your son. You just never know and Disney can lead to sensory overload.

I just can't help myself with those ADRs either. You plans look great. Don't forget about the baby centers if DS needs a break. That might be helpful.

Thanks Tina..you are getting close!!! Woohoo! I just found some great info about the DAS here on the DIS. Looks like the party limit size is 6 people (1 with the card and then 5 traveling with them). So, that completely works for us! I think my Mom will probably just will wait to see how she feels, her hip pain comes and goes. I think she will do fine the first couple of days, but may need to get a card toward the end of the trip.

I'm just worried when I go to Guest Relations and explain the reason I need the card they will just look at me and tell me I just described a typical toddler. However, Joey can get so upset to the point he can cause serious injury to himself (or others). When he was sick a few weeks ago he was so uncomfortable he caused large bruises on his forehead from the head-butting he was doing. My DH and I tried everything to get him to stop including putting padding around his crib rails. He has done much better and we are all learning certain coping mechanisms to help him, but I think it would help to have the DAS as a backup plan.

It's so funny I feel almost guilty asking for the DAS Card for a legitimate reason (I feel), and there were/are people out there that openly abuse the system. My conscience would not allow me to do that!!

Luckily Joey does really well with noise/music/lights and things like that. He also loves to be outside, but the Baby Centers are definitely a great idea for a quiet break!

BTW, hope your are planning on doing a TR because I will be following along!

Thank you, I am going to try to do a TR. I am so bad, I have started 2 or 3 TRs and never finished them. But I have finished 3 PTRs, haha!

Do Not Feel Guilty, you have a legit reason! :) I would get it just in case if you feel that way and use it if you need to.

47 DAYS!!!

I don't know why but when I hit the 40's in the countdown all of a sudden it get's real to me that we will be heading to Disney soon! On 3/1 I texted my Mom and told her "We are going to Disney next month!" She promptly called me and told me she just downloaded a couple of Disney Books to her Kindle and was reading all about it! Then she casually mentioned one of the books was "The Darkside of Disney". I have to admit I have read the book just for fun and it did make me blush a bit that my sweet little Mother was reading this book. LOL LOL LOL

So, just wanted to share a few updates:

Departure Day Update:

Initially my DSD was going to be spending the night before with her Mommy since we are leaving on Easter Sunday. She wanted to spend just a few hours with her in the morning before we left. We were all on board with that and planned on picking her up around 9am. However, we get to keep her the night before because her Mommy is leaving for Vegas early Sunday Morning to get married. I'm so happy to have her the night before not just because we will get to leave earlier the next morning but also because I know she will share in all the excitement!

After discussing with my Mom and MIL, we decided we would like to be on the road by 7am!! This is completely fine with me, the earlier the better in my book. Not too worried about the kids either, the plan is to wake them up at the last minute and just put them in the car...pajamas and all. The problem "child" will be my DH...definitely not a morning person. However, with me his Mom and his MIL he won't have a choice.

All the adults will grab a quick bite for breakfast while still here at the house since none of us are big breakfast eaters. The kids can munch in the car when they are ready. I'm thinking about buying 2 of these trays for the kids to use in the car. Has anyone used these before?

fOLAm3j.jpg

We plan on stopping for lunch around 11:00am for a early lunch. We will get something cheap and cheerful and let the kids get out and stretch a bit. I'm hoping to be on the road by 11:45. This is usually when Joey naps so hoping he will nap for a bit...he always falls asleep in the car so don't think it will be too much of a problem.

The next stop will depend on when Joey wakes up and our bladders! I'm thinking around 2:00 or so. This will be a stop probably at a rest area to run around a bit and have a snack. Think we will be on the road around 2:30. From this point if all goes well we should only have about 2 1/2 hours left until we reach the condo.

So, if all works out I hope to reach the condo by 5pm. This would be great because it will give us time to unpack the car, and let the kids hit the pool for a bit since they will have been in the car for so long. While everyone is at the pool, I plan on running out to the store to grab some breakfast/snack stuff/drinks for the week. I will also grab some dinner while I'm out to bring back to the condo.

The kids usually konk out by 8:30-9pm when at home so I'm hoping this will happen this night as well. Next morning we will be up nice and early to make sure we arrive for opening at AK!!

4/22/14 - ADR Minor Change:

I also changed the time of our The Plaza ADR, initially I had it scheduled for dinner but changed it to lunch. So, that means all our ADRs are at lunch now. I think this works better for us because we will hit all the Parks for opening, stop for our ADRs for lunch and then will head back out a little after lunch for an afternoon break. I think the break is an absolute must this trip for the kids and the Grandmas. Thinking we will head out of the parks each day around 2:30 each day so we can go back to the condo and rest and have dinner outside of the park if we want. Then head back into the park
around 5-5:30pm. We can head back to the same park or hop to another one.

So, those are the most recent changes. The next step will be buying our tickets from Undercover Tourist next week!! Then will link them to MDE!!

I'm planning to spend some time in my next update outlining my Fast Pass selections...I want to have them already chosen before I get to the Parks so I'm not spending time figuring it out at the Park. I do know I will be selecting them for the evening hours. Just have to figure out which selections I want to make.

Well, thanks for following along with this PTR, and feel free to say hi and provide any suggestions.

Woo Hoo! Leaving early is a huge plus! We always want to arrive as soon as possible.

Yum, love my Plaza :)

Yay! For buying tickets next week.

It is getting so close!!!

Good idea letting the kiddos and Grandmas relax in the late afternoon and evening.

.

Hi Tina! :hyper: It was up to me we would leave even early...I just feel you get so much good driving under your belt first thing in the morning, but I think 7am is as early as I can ask for! :)

I have never eaten at The Plaza, I know it's closed right now for refurbishing so I'm curious to see it when it's all done/ I have checked out the menu and looks like there will be something for everyone! I think a few of us will end up splitting some lunches. I rather leave room for the all important Disney Popcorn popcorn:: and the Mickey Pretzel and of course some Dole Whip.

I know your trip is getting close. Have you started packing yet? :)

I did start packing but only for myself. Haha! making sure all my clothes fit. I have been shopping for things to take with us. We usually drive and I take enough stuff for a month but this time we are flying and getting a rental when we arrive. So I am going to buy some things we need once we arrive. So I am going to have to scale down on what I pack that is so hard for me. After all, we may need it ;) lol!

.

23 days!!!!!!! The suspense is giving me gray hair!!

So sorry for not updating lately, but not much to share lately. I did buy our tickets from Undercover Tourist on 3/14 which is exciting! Now I'm just waiting for them to arrive, I did call them earlier this week and they had not been shipped yet. They do have 15 business days from the time they are ordered to get them in the mail, and she did explain to me right now they are pretty much taking the entire 15 days due to demand. I guess that is a good problem to have, just as long as I get my tickets in time. :)

My stepdaughter and I created a countdown chain, and she and I have been having fun taking a link off every day. She really likes when she comes back to us after being with her Mommy because she gets to take off multiple links at one time. Here is a picture of our link..I know it is a bit pitiful looking but I am so not crafty at all!!!! It is serving it's purpose and we are having fun with it so I guess that is all that matters.

jX0xV36.jpg

I have also dug out the bag she will be using for the car, and let her know she can start putting stuff in there that she wants to use in the car. Does that count as packing?? I don't want to come off as too crazy..LOL.

I can't believe the trip is getting so close, I am beyone excited. My Mom says her vacation starts on 4/19 because that is the day she is coming into town to help me get everything packed and ready for the trip. She will go with us to pick up the rental minivan, and then we are sending my DH off to get the car seat put into it.

Then Mom and I will spend the remainder of the day getting everything ready. We plan on leaving our house at 6:30am and then head over to pick up my DMIL. My goal is to be on the road by 7am!! I know it's crazy but I am even looking forward to the ride down there because we will all be together and so excited for the trip.

One of my tasks is to create a grocery list for when we get there I already know what I want to get from the grocery store, because I do not want to spend too long at the store...boring!!! I think I might drag my Mom along with me while DH and DMIL let the kids play at the condo. I did look into grocery delivery, but since we are arriving on Easter Sunday I have not had much luck at all. Oh well, luckily there is a Publix and a Super Target near the condo!

Also, I learned something from a Disney Facebook Group that I am a part of that there are now "park to park" buses available. Someone was saying you could take bus from AK to MK or Epcot! I think this might be a good thing for us, though it throws a little wrench into the planning but might be a good wrench. My thoughts were to definitely work in an afternoon break for the kids and grandmas, but if my DH wanted to stay (even my step-daughter) they could stay and go to a different park via bus if they wanted and then we could all meet back up later that afternoon in whichever park. Has anyone had any experience with the park to park buses? I would love to hear thoughts about it.

Well, this my update for now. I will try not to wait so long in between updates. Hopefully my next update will be about getting my TICKETS!! WOOHOO!!

Thanks for following along and helping me deal with the wait!

Hey there!! Sorry I haven't commented before now.

YAY for ordering your tickets

Our countdown chain looks similar to yours (I'm not super crafty, either).

It is totally acceptable to start packing now! Shoot, I had our car stuff packed up a few weeks ago already, and I have been throwing clothes in the suitcase this week. :rolleyes1

Hey Jennifer! Thanks for commenting! I was just thinking I have all the kids new Disney clothes still in the bags...maybe I should go ahead and wash them up and get them packed. I mean they are just sitting in the bag anyway, might as well be sitting in a suitcase instead :confused3

I know you and the kids must be getting excited for your trip!

15 more days!! I can't handle it!!

So, as I was counting out my days, I started to wonder how everyone else counts down. I don't count today and I don't count the day I leave...whatever makes me feel better :)

Yesterday was a wonderful day because we received our UT tickets!!! woohoo!! I immediately linked them to my MDE and started obsessing about FP's. I was fully expecting to have to wait to book them at the kiosks at the Parks since we are staying off-site, so I was overjoyed when I learned that off-site guests can now book 30 days out.

I think my next few updates are going to be a rundown of the details of each day of the trip. I think this will help me get my thoughts together and I hope you enjoy following along.

Day 1: Travel Day (4/20/14):

My Mom is coming into town the day before we leave to help with picking up the mini-van, all the last minute packing and the last minute running around. It will be great to have her here, and we know we will both be like little kids and won't be able to sleep at all. We have decided that she and I will camp out in the living room together that night because we figured we will be up early anxious to get on the road.

5:30am: Mom and I get up.
5:45am: Wake up DH and force his butt out of bed and into the shower, and Mom and I finish getting reay
6:00am: Get DD up and dressed
6:15am: DH put remaining stuff in car while I get DS out of bed and changed
6:30am: Pulling out of driveway to head over to pick up my DMIL (luckily she only lives 10 minutes away), my Mom is going to follow us over there in her car cause she is leaving it at my In-laws
6:45am: Arrive at In-laws, put her stuff in van
7:00am: Pulling out of her driveway and on the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will have breakfast snacks in the car for the kids, me, DH and Mom (DMIL will eat before we leave).

9:00am: Stop to stretch and bathroom breaks
9:15am: Back on the road
11:30: Stop for lunch on the road, somewhere cheap and cheerful
12:00: Back on the road

I'm hoping at this time my DS will nap for a bit.

3:00: Stop to stretch and bathroom breaks if needed....if not we will be pressing on!
3:15: Snacks in the car
6:15: Arrive at condo!!! (Hopefully)

We will have all the usual car activities for the kids...portable dvd player, Ipod, crayons, books, kindle and most importantly the Grandmas!!

We will unload the van and then my Mom and I are going to run to the grocery store to pick up breakfast stuff, snacks and drinks for the rest of the trip. We will also pick up some dinner on the way back for everyone. If we are running late then we will just stop and get dinner before we get to the condo.

I want the kids to get their ya-yas out since they will have been in a car all day. So, if it's warm enough I think we will head over to the pool/playground for a bit after dinner. Then back to the condo for baths and into bed!! We are still trying to decide where my DS is going to sleep. He sleeps in a toddler bed at home and we have his doors secured so he can't get out of his room if he gets up. We won't have this at the condo and I checked out the pictures and they don't have the round door knobs they have the handles you just pull down and little man can definitely open the door. So, I
guess we will figure out something but I half expect to find him in bed with my Mom...they love to snuggle! :)

So that is our Day 1 --- exciting I know.

2 more days is that even possible??????????

To say I'm stressed would be a complete and utter understatement! I'm going to focus on the stuff I have crossed off the list...makes me feel better.

Accomplishments:

Confirmed car rental reservation...even though when I did call them 2 days ago to confirm they told me it was cancelled! Panic moment because of course there were no longer anymore minivans left anywhere, but all is well now and my reservation is confirmed and we are all set! Ok, back to the list of accomplishments!!

Confirmed condo rental, received lockbox code and further FYI information

Bought new car seat for DS!

Kids bag is packed (except for diapers and socks for DS). Each outfit is in a ziploc bag and labeled for each park (quit laughing it was the only way I could keep up with the outfits).

Mine and DH's suitcase 75% packed

Toiletry bag 50% packed, picking up last items this weekend.

DD's car bag packed

Ok, I have to say I wish my list of accomplishments was a tad bit longer. However, I have tomorrow and Saturday to get everything else done.

Now that is out of my system let's chat about our first park day! Our first park will be Animal Kingdom (4/21/14). Here is my rundown:

8am: Arrive for RD and make our way over to the Safari. I have not ever ridden this ride first thing in the morning and I have read that the animals seem to be quite active in the morning. I hope this is the case because I think this will be one of my Mom's favorite rides...she is quite the animal lover!!

We will then head over to Rafiki Planet Watch, this is yet another place I have not made it to during my past visits so I'm really looking forward to this one.

We have a FP reservation for Dinosaur from 9:40-10:40, so we will make our way over that way after RPW (stop by and see what the standby line is like for EE). I'm guessing we will probably make it over there by 10:30. My MIL will probably skip this ride and watch DS while the rest of us go on the ride. We will explore Dinoland and all the fun that lies there.

We have a FP reservation for EE from 10:55-11:55, we will most likely make our way over there around 11:30. Again my MIL will skip this one and watch the kids cause I don't think we will get my DD on this, but me, DH and Mom will enjoy the ride.

Next FP reservation is for Finding Nemo Musical for 12:30-12:50. I feel like we will be doing some back and forth on this and I'm hoping to do some rearranging so my Dinosaur and Nemo are scheduled closer together so we can knock them out while we are in the same area. So far I haven't had any luck with that but will keep my eye open.

We have an ADR at Rainforest Cafe at 1:30 so after Nemo we will head that way. After lunch we will go and check out Maharajah Jungle Trek and then Pangani Exlporation. After that I think we will be calling it a day at the parks because definitely don't want to wear out the Grandmas on the first day so we will head back to the condo for a bit of the break.

We are also thinking about heading over to DTD after a bit of a break at the condo. My DH has not been over there before so I would really like for him to see it. I know the kids will enjoy it as well, we will see how the Grandmas feel and see if they want to join.

So, that is a rundown of our first day at the parks!! I can't believe in a few days we will be in AK!!!!

Magic Kingdom Day!!! :)

So, this will be my first trip that I didn't start the trip at MK, so I will be very happy to get to the MK!!! :)

Here is the rundown for this day:

9:00am Rope Drop! We will head to NFL and ride Little Mermaid (per the request of my DD). We will spend some time in NFL,

and then head back to Town Square because we have a FP for Meeting Mickey Mouse from 10:15-11:15. I wanted to make this

reservation in the morning before the kids mess up their outfits with Disney Ice Cream which I know will happen at some

point. I'm guess we will probably arrive for our FP around 11am.

After meeting the Main Mouse we will probably head somewhere for lunch, we originally had an ADR at The Plaza but we

decided to cancel it and just have QS...maybe Casey's or Pinnochio because we have a FP for Winnie the Pooh from 12:10-

1:10 so we can hit that after lunch.

We then have a FP for Peter Pan from 1:25-2:25. As you can see the FP reservations are really directed to the kids this

day, we will get to the big rides later in the week.

We will most likely take a break around 3pm and head back to the condo to rest for a bit. We will have some dinner

outside of the park and then head back to the MK probably around 6pm or so.

I have read it is sometimes possible for people to make additional FP's for the afternoon after they use their 1st 3 FP's

so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that will happen so I can make some more reservations for the evening. We want to stick

around for Wishes this time if everyone can make it. :)

Our next day will be at Epcot

Epic Fail on last few days of PTR!

So, obviously I did not get a chance to enter the last few days of my PTR before we left on our trip. Here is a quick rundown of the plans (did we stick to them...you will have to check out my TR to see):

Wednesday, 4/23: Epcot Day:

Will arrive at Opening and we had the following morning FP+
Soarin' (for me, DM and DD)
Living with the Land (for everyone)
Test Track (DH and DMIL...if she doesn't want to ride it I will ride in her place)
Spaceship Earth (all of us)

Lunch ADR at Beaches and Cream (take friendship boat from Epcot to resort)...I'm so looking forward to this because I'm dying to see the resort and I've heard good things about he food.

Come back and visit some of the World Showcase and then head back for an afternoon break, and then come back for Illuminations.

Thursday, 4/24: Hollywood Studios:

Arrive at Opening and we had the following morning FP+
Star Tours (everyone)
Great Moving Ride (everyone)
RnRC (everyone)

We have an ADR at Sci-Fi...this is one of our favorites!

Then my DH and I will have our date night which are both looking forward to! Good test to see if we could handle coming back just the 2 of us!

Friday, 4/25: Magic Kingdom:

Arrive at Opening and we had the following morning FP+
Splash Mountain
Thunder Mountain
Space Mountain

We would have QS for lunch and hit whatever rides/shows that we have missed earlier in the trip.

So, I know that is a pitiful rundown of the rest of the PTR. I am planning on doing a TR and I even have the 1st day pretty much typed up. I will post the link here in case anyone is interested in following along with the TR. I promise there will be more pictures included in that report.

Thank you all for following along...I did enjoy writing this PTR and I'm looking forward to writing my TR! :)
