Is it reasonable to go to DTD our first night?

I'm going nuts trying to re-do our PS's and even possibly re-book our Segway tour....anyhow, we're staying at BWV in late Jan, and we have 2 young'uns (ds 4 1/2, dd 21 months). Our first night we were just going to stay around the BW because we want to get the kids in bed around 7:30 or so. We have a PS at Spoodles for 5:30.

NOW I'm thinking maybe we could do a *little* at DTD and just grab something at Earl of Sandwich. Do you think this is feasible time-wise? Our flight gets in at 2:15pm, and we're taking Tiffany Towncar to the BWV - no grocery stop this time, we're ordering them to be delivered. I honestly am having a terrible time remembering how long it generally takes us to get our luggage and arrive at the hotel *and* how long it really takes to hopp a bus to DTD (and thus, what time we need to leave DTD by to get back for bedtime)! We can sort of unpack a majority of the stuff after the kids are asleep.

ACK :)

TIA,
Shel

We were there in Feb with our dd (3 at the time). We got in around 1pm and by the time we got our car and luggage, it was probably 4pm before we checked in. The drive is only about 20-30 min from MCO if I remember.

We went to DTD our first night and made the mistake of a sit down dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. My daughter was so exhausted from the flight and excitement that she barely made it through dinner. It felt like a big waste of $120. Next time, we plan to grab something quick to eat, or book a character dinner at Chef Mickey's (which might keep the kids more entertained).

Last time I went to wdw and stayed at the Boardwalk. Our flight arrived on time at 4:30pm on Friday afternoon. We got our luggage by 4:50. and our town car pulled up in front of the Boardwalk by 5:30.

DTD isn't too far, but you don't know how tired you may be so I think it is a good idea to stay around the resort area. It might be fun just to walk around on the Boardwalk. Or, since you are staying at BWV, why not grab a bite at Beaches & Cream? If you have a Q&C you could feed all 3 of you with it. It should be a nice walk - give you a chance to stretch your legs after the flight and help tire out the munchkin.

We, too, get in at 1 p.m. and have a rental car. By the time we make a grocery stop and get to VWL it will probably be 3:30 p.m. (Check-in isn't until 3:00 p.m.) We plan to get settled in our room, walk around the lodge and then walk or boat over to FW where I am surprising DH with a 6:00 p.m. carriage ride before our 7:15 p.m. PS for HDDR. This keeps us close-to-home but gives us an exciting beginning to our trip. Also gives us something fun to do without using a park pass.

We almost always go to DTD our first night and eat at Rainforest. We have two youngins and as long as we get into town before 4 that is our normal routine.

We have gone to DTD both times on our arrival day. First time with 3 1/2 and 6 years olds we drove and the second they were 12 and 14 and we flew. My kids went to bed at 8 pm til they were about 10, but it wasn't an issue at WDW. Too much to do. Neither time was anyone too tired to go walk around, see the Lego store, etc. My DH and I are going alone next fall and have already planned to go for dinner or dessert to DTD on arrival day. There's a great McDonald's there if you want to keep it really simple for the kids. Earl of Sandwich has gotten good reviews too.

After that first night, my dd went to sleep much later than normal while at WDW. She usually goes to bed at 8pm, but was up as late as 10pm without a problem. The last few days, she fell asleep on the way home and the final day, she didn't even make it to the TTC. She was asleep before we hit the MK exit!!
