Is it really THAT hot?

Even the first week of June?

We were hoping to avoid that terrible heat and humidity by going the first week of June this year. Last year we were there the last week, and my DD with asthma stuggled with her breathing from the humidity. We would go back to the room in the afternoons get her out of the heat (she seemed to be OK going to the pool, but had a hard time in the parks).

So now I am wondering if we are going to have that same experience. We thought we might get in our trip before it got too bad. We are there June 4-9.

Hot, check. High humidity, check.

I've been there early June through about mid-Aug. I'm from OH where summers can be hot w/ high humidity also. I like the heat and rarely complain about even in FL. But there are days. The only time I've ever gotten a heat rash was in FL, at WDW in June. Not later in the summer. So it really just depends on the yr how bad it's going to be then. Last July was VERY bad a few days. Somewhere around the 7th and 9th I believe. We had our 15mth old and he did fine. Just be prepared and you will have fun. I always say it feels like your wrapped up in warm snuggly blanket right out of the drier. My dh thinks I'm nuts though and tries not to complain too much. We cannot go any other time due to the fact we both teach so we have to grin and bear it. Have a great trip!

If you're used to Texas heat, will it be bearable?

Depends, Waco as I recall tends to have a little drier heat. If you can stand Houston/ Gulf Coast Texas heat then you are good to go. We live south of Houston about 30 miles from the Gulf and our summer weather and WDW summer weather are pretty much the same. Temp in the 90's and high humidity. No problem for us and we have been in June, July and August. Just like when people move to Houston from other areas and ask me how do you deal with the heat? I tell them you sweat, a lot, and just go on and do whatever. Drink lots of water and enjoy the a/c of attractions when you can.

Get an early start -- as early as possible. Because the mornings in May and early June are lovely. Sometimes, it's even a little on the cool side, and you'll come outside just after sunrise, and there will be a faint mist rising from the pool at your hotel. :goodvibes

Of course, after about 10 am or so, the temperature starts to really climb... :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

But we pace ourselves, drink plenty of fluids, and get out of the scorching heat as much as possible. We like to spend most of the afternoons -- from around noon to 5 pm -- dozing at the hotel or splashing in the pool, then head out for dinner and an evening in the parks after that.

I remember reading about one DVC family that goes to WDW every August for two weeks. They have a routine: mornings at the water parks or pool, afternoons at the hotel, or shopping somewhere, and every evening in the parks. I don't know how practical that is for people who are only staying a few days ... and frankly, I would find only visiting the parks at night to be sort of grim. Magical? Yeah. But still sort of grim...

WOW, thanks for all the responses DISers, well just to clarify, I live in Souther California, in the Valley and boy, is the humidity bad! I remember having a going away party for my sister in august and we were just standing there....sweating. It was even hot at 11pm!! So I don't think it will be too unbearable for my family, we're used to sweating at 9 or 10am in the morning, matter of fact I am right now! :rotfl: lol. Okay thanks once again!

Hey, DJ!

Sorry to say, it will be hot and humid. We'll be there 5/31 - 6/6 and have gone at this time before. From weather.com, the avg high will be 89, avg low will be 68-68 - and all that unpleasant talk about sweating due to humidity is all too true. The mornings and evenings are quite nice - we take an afternoon break for a refreshing dip in the pool (or a refreshing cat nap :rolleyes1 ). If you can't do this, target indoor rides / attractions / shows for the hottest times of the day.

Hey, neighbor tkitty! We grew up in Michigan, so we know 90 degress and 90 percent - gotta love that dry desert heat here in Arizona! Looks like we'll top 100 at PHX today!

Be well1

It really depends on what area of CA you're talking about, to compare it to. :) If you're from the valley, you'll be used to the temps, although you might not be as used to the humidity.

I've lived in hot/dry areas as well as the humid areas--while the humidity does take some getting used to, I've found I much prefer it over the dryness now, especially when it comes to my skin! We've had a lot of dryness here in Tampa recently & it's driving me nuts. I haven't had to use lotion since we moved here until recently!

Just follow the typical warnings this summer---lots of water, hats, etc. But the afternoon storms can cool things off quite a bit, and it's never really miserable after the sun goes down. :)

i also heard that it rains every afternoon in June. We were there in august last year and as already mentioned its hot... and humid like you cant believe. our video camera would fog up when we went outside because it had been in our cool room. BUT we are going back again this august. you just have to take your time with stuff. my husband and i are both in decent shape so we didnt have a hard time respitory wise but my parents wanted to come this august and i felt bad and told them to wait till next yr and maby we will go in april. i would worry too much about them walking in that heat... they are 66 and 64.

the one time i can really remember sweating was standing in a 4 minlute line for splash mountain at 9pm! it wasnt moving fast and it was so dam humid. i felt like i was in a tropical rainforest.

I was at WDW last year in early June and I was actually COLD much of the time. I had packed for extreme heat (shorts, camisoles, etc.) It rained - a lot - 6 of the 10 days we were there. When you are wet and then go into a store or restaurant or AC'd ride, you get very cold. So I found myself wishing I had packed a few warmer clothes!

We are from Texas and didn't find the heat unbearable....just stay out of the direct sun. The only two bad heat issues we had were both at Animal Kingdom. We were waiting to get into the Lion King and were standing in the direct sun, just because that is where we were in line. Also, we decided at the last minute to watch the parade-all the shady spots were taken, so we stood in the 4 pm direct sun for about 30 minutes. That wiped us out! So for the daytime parades, either get your spot early enough to be in the shade, or skip it.
