Is it realistic to catch a taxi after Fantasmic @ HS?

DH and I will have a date night at Hollywood Studios while dd is at one of the childcare centers at a resort.

Is it realistic to be able to catch a taxi after the Fantasmic show, as opposed to the disney transportation?

They are open until midnight, so it shouldn't be a problem, but you could use the one at the Dolphin or Beach Club and maybe walk over or take the boat.

We did this last year. Actually, Fantasmic was rained out but we still had the crowd. The line for All Star Movies was insane, 10X the busiest line I've seen at Disney in 3 trips. I'm not sure if this was the norm or bad timing, but I counted an average of needing about 10 buses to pick up the line and one was arriving every 5-10 minutes. We didn't feel like spending an hour in line.

Getting the taxi was the best decision ever, but getting to the taxi was somewhat difficult. Now, this is the only time we done it, so there may be an easier way, but we found taxes out in the parking lot past the lines for the buses. First, we had to get past the people standing in line (which was the rudest group of people I had ever seen- one lady kept sticking her foot out to trips us "No cutting!") then we had to manuever the parking lot and traffic to get to the taxi.

All in all though, it probably save us about an hour and was around $20.

There are generally taxis waiting at or near every resort, park exit, or attraction. My BF knows that when I see a long line at the resort bus stop, I'm pretty likely to just keep on walking to the cabs and hop in. Cab rides are generally no more than $15 before tip in my experience.

We use them when we're wet from rain, full from dinner, or have taken in libations at one of the lounges. It's nice to be able to ask the driver to turn down the AC when you're soaked, and up when you've gone all out at a 2TS.
