Is it racist

WOW! Now that's racist. You think all of the people who live in the ghetto are one race??
:lmao:

Are we talking about an AREA where persons live?
Did you see me imply that only persons of one race live there?

Well, the topic of the thread is if dressing ghetto is racist. You posted that ghetto is racist when used to describe dress by a particular race. That implies that a sinlge race comprises the ghetto. That is racist.

So the answer to your question is yes.

Since when is the Christmas Christians celebrate the same as the one that includes Santa Clause? I know when I went to school there was no mention of God or Jesus around Christmas and the only carols that were sung were about Rudolph. There are two different Christmases.

I don't think that Muslims would be too happy if people distorted there religion's celebrations as much as the Christian faith's have been distorted. Don't act like Christians' have one some big battle when they haven't. If Christians were allowed to actually practice their faith in public schools there would be something worth debating over here, but they aren't. If public schools don't want religion involved that should mean all of them.

Sorry that this is very off topic from the original post.

Still very OT - Sorry!!!

Actually, they are indeed struggling to find ways to be inclusive and yet mostly secular. It isn't an easy topic. But what was VERY ugly was the way people reacted and that is what bothered me. It was truly vile. Here is a decent article if you really care...

By the way, my older daughter learned Silent Night. Not exactly a secular tune. ;)

How does the word gangsta represent all of this? You are stereotyping here!! There are plenty of gangsta rappers out there who are very intelligent and some are among the richest people in the USA- I wouldn't call that being stupid. It is very funny how white children can dress up like the black kids, listen to the rap or hip hop music, but be first to call some the "n" word.

someone else brought up the word gansta as a substitution for the word ghetto as if they are interchangeable...Don't get me started on my feelings about "gangsta" rap...if doesn't take a lot of education to make a rhyme about beating women and getting shot. Last I checked being rich didn't make you a genius.

I wish we had a whiteboard here. We could draw this out logically. :thumbsup2 I'm too lazy to draw it and upload it to photobucket.

Yes I know I said whiteboard, but that's what it is called, isn't it??!!??!!

You are right that money doesn't = intelligence. However, that is a pretty broad generalization that all gangsta rappers are ill educated and beat women.

The DIS-friendly name would be 'dry erase board'.

So in your opinion where the op refers to "DRESS ghetto" that is referring to an area where persons live and not a style of "DRESS"

Yes I posted that if one uses the term "ghetto" to describe dress by a particular race it might be racist(and I stand by it), and in you opinion that implies that I feel a single race comprises the Ghetto.

OK you are free to think what ever you like:thumbsup2

Unfortunately the interactive world is not PC and refers to it just as a whiteboard. I apologize on the interactive world's behalf. :guilty:

It's not my opinion that a ghetto is an area where people live. That IS what it is.

And for your second paragraph, I am only posting and commenting on what you said. If you came across wrong....I am glad. I hope you don't think all people in the ghetto are a single race. But an area, which is what a ghetto is, can't be racist! It is a place...not a race.

Be careful! Using a proper word in its proper context, even without an underlying implication of racist intent, can be construed by some to be in and of itself racist, as it is the reciever of the message that determines the intent with which a word is used, regardless of the original intent of the speaker.:scared:

Back to the original post you feel is racist and says that I feel everyone in the GHETTO is of a single race.

Anewman(in reference to Ghetto being a slur) said:
It is when used to describe dress by a particular race.

If you can not understand that My saying it is a slur IF used to describe a particular races' style of dress, equals me not feeling it is exclusive to said race...

Never mind, some are not worth the effort.

Huh? :confused3 This is EXACTLY like legal docuspeak. OMG, that wasn't racist in any way was it?

Well..........you didn't say if, you said when. And therein might lie the misunderstanding. Just guessing. :confused3

And I think my use of OMG might be too Christian, or too anti-Christian or something. ;)

I said "when", as it is should NOT BE USED to describe dress of a particular race. Hence giving my stance that it is NOT EXCLUSIVE to one race.

There is no misunderstanding, just twisting of words.

Do you not believe that she and you are saying the same thing then? So why would there be any twisting? Why not err on the side of nonconflict (in other words, PEACE) and say, misunderstanding? Since you really DON'T KNOW what is in someone else's mind and how they think, and therefore you can't know if someone misunderstood or twisted anything. Turn down the fire.
