Is it possible to vacation at Ft. Myers or Ft. Lauderdale Beaches without car?

I am considering a last minute trip before school starts next month. I am not positive were to go just yet. However Ft. Myers & Ft. Lauderdale has been a beach we have wanted to visit, but the driving time is just way to much one way (17 hours). I am considering maybe just flying to one of them. Does anyone know if those spots have things to do & eat within walking distance of beach hotels?

Fort myers beach is somewhat walkable. Look for a resort with restaurants and shops nearby.
Don't know about ft lauderdale though.

I don't consider Ft. Myers Beach walkable. Neither place is like Miami Beach which is definitely walkable. You need a complete resort with a couple choices of restaurants and just stay put. Maybe Key West would work for ya.

If you stay on Fort Myers Beach, you could probably spend a fair amount of time there without a car as there's a number of restaurants on and around the beach. The problem, IMO, would be in getting to your hotel at FMB. It's quite a haul from the Fort Myers airport (at least 35-45 minute drive). I don't know if there are shuttle companies that go to the beach, but I suppose you could look into something like that.

My mom, sister and I did Ft Lauderdale without a car a few years back. Plenty of hotels right off of the beach in addition lots of places to eat. Not too far from the Airport either, 15-20 minutes away tops!
